An architectural model - step by step

Recommended Posts

Okay, so it's not technically railway modelling, but the principles are the same, so I thought I'd post a quick step by step photo guide of an architectural model I've just finished.

1. Make a base, this time walnut veneer over MDF

2. Add power...

3. Do a sh*t load of CAD ready for laser cutting

4. Wire up some LED strip

5. Frost the lighting core to get a soft glow

6. Spray the ground level floor plates

7. Rely on friends to post handy reminders before gluing anything...

8. Go cross-eyed making tiny details

9. Start threading columns and adding floors

10. Keep going...

11. And going...

12. Check your glazing lines up (within 0.25mm accuracy)

13. Mask the glazing and back spray the spandrel panels

14. Design and order some stainless steel etches, and you're done!

And there you have it, 1:300 scale model of Lever House in New York. Not bad for four weeks work I think!
