Hi all,

Following on from a discussion on the DEMU forum....

Can anyone clarify what colour of paint was used?

So far - our suggestions range from LT Red to Burgundy!

Using one of Ernies photo's of the real thing as a reference point

and using a photo of my N gauge attempt from 25 years ago

This was done in Rover Burgundy cellulose paint.

Does anyone have the information?

Thanks

I think that you are not far off with that. Perhaps a touch too dark but that will look different once varnished anyway.

Hi all,

Over the years I've collated over 30 photos of the Mexican Bean - mostly from the internet.

The colour seems to vary according to the lighting conditions at the time of the photo.

I was hoping that Ken, Bod or Flood had some record of the actual colour to sort it out - once and for all.

On my latest model I have decided to give it a red oxide primer and then Rover Burgundy - to see if it makes a difference.

Thanks

Howdy,  I've often looked at the Mexican Bean myself, but unfortunately, with my version of Queen St being set in 1988 it is too early for me to get away with.

Having had a look round at various sites and discussions about it, the vast majority describe the livery as 'Maroon' - however, as you say, someone like Flood with his encyclopedic knowledge may well  be able to provide the definitive answer.

Looking forward to seeing your version of it though.

cheers

Andy
