GWR88
Hello all, I've recently bought a Bachmann On30 0-4-2 porter loco and I wonder if anybody knows if these style of locos followed the doughboys to France/ Belgium during the 18 months they were there or were supplied to the WD during the war. I know Baldwins etc were supplied to the WD but I have no way of getting one on On30 as I'm hopeless with kits! Any help is greatly appreciated! 009matt
You need a copy of http://www.amazon.co.uk/Narrow-Gauge-War-1st-Paperback/dp/B00RWNBNUO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1433182534&sr=8-1&keywords=narrow+gauge+at+war+1and volume 1. The amazon prices are extortionate but usually good exhibition book sellers have the two for around £15 each sorry - that is for a first print edition, try http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=narrow%20gauge%20at%20war%
49395
Generally the Americans used Baldwin, Porter and Davenport 2-6-2 tank locos with Baldwin petrol tractors, although they used some British and French equipment to start with. Have a look at the locos page on this site http://www.wdlr.org.uk/wdlr/ Also the book 'narrow gauge to no man's land' which covers the US army light railways in detail. Edit: this is where I got my copy, usual disclaimer etc http://www.camdenmin.co.uk/products/narrow-gauge-to-no-man-s-land For the British equipment, 'WDLR Album' is excellent. http://rclpublications.co.uk/b09-wdlralbum.html 'The light track to Arras' is also a good book to accompany the 2 narrow gauge at war books. 49395
Neil Sayer sells a kit for the Baldwin gas mechanical used by the US army http://www.neilsayer.co.uk I'm quite tempted myself, but our WDLR layout (see link in my sig) is set behind the British lines so it's not really that useful for it. I'm fairly sure I've seen a build thread on here somewhere for one of them. I've nearly finished a Baldwin 4-6-0 on my own etched chassis which is based on a wrightlines kit, the US units used some of these if you can find one of the kits anywhere Cheers Mike

GWR88
Thanks everyone for the help it seems my porter would be too far from home to trundle to the trenches. Looks like I have to change my plans. All the best, Lloyd
