The Trent Valley Area Group of the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association are holding a 'Members' Day' at Mickleover Community Centre on Saturday 22nd January. The highlight will be our O16.5 layout Henmore - we have to hire the Community Centre to set it up as the layout is so big (as visitors to Wigan in 2009 may recall). There will also be at least three other layouts: Franklin from Bob Harper (as seen at Warley NEC) American On2 narrow gauge with DCC control and sound, a modular layout from the West Midlands group and a most unusual layout from Tony and Kate Bennett. This is based on Iraq in 2003 :O when UK land forces helped the locals restore an old narrow gauge line to deliver water in tankers. Built to a scale of 1:35 there are many military vehicles to see as well as the railway.

Phil Traxson from Port Wynnstay Models will be demonstrating resin casting (although he seems to spend most of the time answering questions). There will also be a demonstration of building buildings(!) by David Wright as featured in Railway Modeller and on his ’shows you how’ DVD.

Port Wynnstay will have their full range of both narrow and standard gauge stock available along with other kits and architectural items for buildings. EDM will have a selection from their range of Bachmann On30, as well as stock from many other US suppliers such as AMS, San Juan, Stoney Creek, Banta, PSC and other hard to get items from USA. Paul stocks DCC from Lenz, NCE and Soundtraxx. New this year is the unique Ixion model of the UK built South Australian ‘Coffee Pot’

The 7mm NGA Sales stand will be there with a range of modelling goods including Peco NG stock, Evergreen plastic sheet and strips and Kadee couplings, Publications and Second Hand Sales. There will also be member's 'bring and buy' sales.

Full details are available on the EDM web site (thanks Paul) complete with public transport information and maps. You can also see photos of the Henmore layout and the previous event to see what to expect. A 'voluntary donation' of £3 is suggested to cover the cost of the hall. Thanks to Mary and Sylvia, bacon cobs and jacket potatoes will be available. All welcome (we need the money) :D

Spent last night with Phil Traxson shifting the layout from Tim's first floor storage facility (also known as the spare bedroom) so that it's all stacked in the passage way to the front door ready for collection later in the week. There are eight 'coffins' each made up from two 4ftx2ft boards face to face with protective top and bottom boards as well as end boards as well. Some of the boards are more 'mature' (old) and built using the latest lightweight techniques of 2x1 and chipboard, plus the protection Tim has built around them makes the 'coffins' bomb proof - it also makes them bl**dy heavy and hard to carry. At least we now have a couple of newer boards built with ply and lots of holes to take out the weight - still got the heavy framing though :D

Thanks to Chris Klein at Ixion Models we have their model of the South Australia 'Coffee-Pot' available as a raffle prize to help our group funds.

Details of this model will be found here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php/topic/26215-ixion-coffee-pot-in-0n30/ and also here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php/topic/25782-ixion-coffee-pot-now-available/

Tickets will be for sale a £2 each which we feel is a reasonable sum to pay for a model with a retail value of almost £200. There will be no limit on the number of tickets you can buy but you must be at the show when the prize draw takes place at 1.00pm to claim the prize - otherwise we will run the draw again :D

For those who are unlucky in the prize draw - or want more than one, they will be available for sale from Paul Martin at EDM Models who is an official stockist of the Ixion Coffee-Pot.

Visit us and win !!
