RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 6, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 6, 2011 I try and get out on New Years day to take a few photos to bring the year in. I didn't drink much on the eve so I was safe to drive in the morning, the Wrexham and Shropshire services had a couple of different 67's working them so I headed over to Wrexham for the morning departure. Wrexham General, 01/01/11 67029, Royal Diamond, and 82305 on 5P03, 10:50, Wrexham Bay - Wrexham General (passing 67013), this train had run from the bay to the left, up to by the signal box in the background, and then shunts wrong line back into the station, this move was added when the panel was commissioned in October 2009, prior to that all departures had to shunt to platform 3, this is the connection between the Chester/Shrewsbury line and the Wrexham/Dee Marsh line, so if any steel traffic was around it could cause problems, it also meant passengers had to cross the footbridge for the departure, now they just walk onto platform 1. As the train was running back it was overtaken by 158836 on 1D12, 09:09, Birmingham International - Holyhead 82305 and 67029, Royal Diamond, on 1P03, 11:23, Wrexham General - London Marylebone I moved to Ruthin Road to get a shot of the departure. I moved around to a car park at Wrexham Central to get the stock for the later departure. I decided to head over to Hooton to get some of my local stuff. 508120 on 2Y15, 12:49, Ellesmere Port - Ellesmere Port via Liverpool loop 507016 on 2Y13, 11:49, Ellesmere Port - Ellesmere Port via Liverpool loop 508140 on 2C28, 13:00, Chester - Chester via Liverpool loop 507001 on 2C24, 12:00, Chester - Chester via Liverpool loop Part 2 - off to Abergele, later today

Merfyn Jones
Hi Dave, and a happy new year. Good to see those Abergele shots, despite the poor light. Larry's picture of the very tall latice down fast starter reminds me, I was the last person to climb it. I got the job of removing the lamp, then going up again to attach the chain on the end of the Buckleys crane. Meanwhile Dave "Kippers" Williams was wating at the bottom with the gas cutter. Glad to see the back of that one, I newer did like tall signals. Merfyn.

250BOB
Hi Dave, nice shots........what is significant about the bottom of the lattice work signal? I know you are aware my signalling needs improvement. Nob.

For an in use one there is a way of calculating the height determined by the way the base is constructed - for LMS ones
coachmann
Nice pictures there Beast. Particulalrly impressed with the loco-hauled night shot. Merfyn Jones : I got the job of removing the lamp, then going up again to attach the chain on the end of the Buckleys crane. I photographed you lads removing that tall 'un before running for shelter from the rain....
