Penwithick - Rolling Stock 2

I thought I would post an update on work I've done in the New Year.

I have been bending and soldering wire to make up the various details on the "Clay Tiger". The brake pipes and walk ways are an approximation and not exact as I tend to pertain to the Jack Ray philosophy of a recognisable model of the prototype running within a credible context, or something to that effect....

I have attached various bits of brass work; Wire and a mixture of scavenged TPM parts. Buffers are still on the list to obtain and apply.

I have undercoated with a cream colour as the material colour is white and it makes it easier to see where I have sanded, drilled etc Next the model will be "pre-shaded" with a mid-brown and then spray painted white, decals will be applied and then the model will be weathered.

Sample of the decal artwork I drew up and had produced for Tiger.

To fulfill a request in my previous entry, here are some more pictures of my 08.

Very nice work again Jack - I do rather like the way that Tiger is shaping up ;)

Did you consider losing the Rapidos and replacing with something a little more delicate?

Seems a shame to see them on such nicely detailed rolling stock.

Thank you,

It is something I have considered; Most of my stock is new Farish and Dapol so it has NEM pockets, something that would plug strait into the NEM pocket would helpful. Do you have any recommendations?

Cheers,

Jack

Hello Jack.

Thank you for the photos of the shunter, it certinaly looks 100% better once weathered. I have never seen a clean one!

As for couplings I personally would recommend using DG couplings, they are much more unobtrusive than the standard rapido couplings plus you would have the benefit of delayed action uncoupling. Somone of your talents shouldnt have any problems with them, they are pretty much the standard for 2mm finescalers.

Jack, hi

As Missy says, DG's are very popular - there are also some other very similiar ones to this, but I found the DG to work very well.

....so it has NEM pockets, something that would plug strait into the NEM pocket would helpful...

Funny you should say - Check this very neat solution by Edward Sissling.

You can get a trial pack of DG's from the 2FS Association here, which I would recommend you joining if you haven't already.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into getting some. I'll also look at getting a tap so I can make them NEM compatible using the brass block method; I'd rather keep the NEM pocket intact incase I need to run my rolling stock with other people's.

Regards,

Jack

Very nice work here Jack. I wonder how I missed this until know. Like Bryn I have immediately added to my favourites list.

Thanks also for the additional photos of the 08 - that's one nicely grubby gronk :good_mini:

Looking forward to more.

Michael
