Penwithick - Rolling Stock 1

This post outlines some of the stock I am building, buying and weathering for my layout in progress "Penwithick". Penwithick is a modern china clay facility in Cornwall, the layout will be set in the late 80s/early 90s and built in N Scale.

Class 08 and STS TTA Slurry Tank

The 08 is Farish and the Slurry tank is built from a 3D Print I made along with TPM roofwalks and a Farish TTA chassis.

This is the Clay Tiger fresh out the printer, it will sit on TPM Y25s. I have had decals printed from artwork I created. Hopefully it will come together quickly!

This is a Dapol Cargowaggon; I have weathered it as per several pictures I have seen.

Dapol "Silver Bullet"; Lightly weathered as I got fed up with wearing shades each time I got it out the box

Also in various states of construction are PRAs, Tullis Russell Hoppers and an ECC TCA. I aim to produce at least one of each type of wagon used on clay trains.

I hope this is of some interest,

Regards,

Jack

Jack,

That is some seriously impressive weathering and the 3D printing is a very interesting development. This blog is going straight onto my favourites list!

Hi Jack.

As Bryn says the weathering looks really good, especially the shunter. Is there any chance of getting some close up photos of it?

The 3D printing looks good too, hw much work did you have to do from the print to the finished wagon? The quality of the 3D printing I have seen so far looks a bit dodgey for N / 2mm.

Cheers for the compliments,

I will take some shots of the 08 under better lighting conditions and include them in the next post.

The Material I use is White Detail from Shapeways, it is not rough but it does have print lines visable. The White Detail material is soft so it takes just a minute with some fine sand paper to give a completely smooth finish like the STS TTA.

Cheers,

Jack

Weren't some of those STS tanks in that pic in Rail Express of that 60 with the Bullets and TCA?

It's good to see some better shots of the TTA now they're finished, look top mate, I'm aiming for a similar shade when I pimp my bullets

What are you doing for the discharge doors on the Tiger?

2mm / china clay / 80's + 90's - certainly ticks all the right boxes for me :D

I can only echo the comments above fom Bryn and Missy with regard to weathering and 3D printing...and a tiger too :O wow...

Very nice work Jack...

Thanks all for the kind comments,

Jo - I know the picture you're on about, the angle of the picture is quite accute so they could be STS TTAs or possible another kind like the Tiger TTAs(another on the to do list!), http://gallery6801.fotopic.net/p64972672.html

Discharge doors will be ones stolen from an NGS grain polybulk. On future versions I may include them in the print. In total I'd like 4.

Jack

I will probably make it available through my shop at Shapeways, but only once I have updated the model to include the discharge bits at the bottom; For this test model I am using the discharge chutes from a grain Polybulk kit I have spare.

Kindest Regards,

Jack

Hi Jack,

Some really nice wagons here. Love the Tiger! I am currently modelling a similar period and would love the opportunity to purchase a Tiger or 2. Are these now available through your website?

Kind regards,

Jeremy
