Compressors from Camborne

Now there has been mention of these before but as it's buried in the Scencraft pages http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/102459-scenecraft/ I thought a fresh topic was needed.

The Kernow Scenecraft compressors came as something of a suprise as I had seen no mention of them until the reviews in the model press. Now even though I Iive in Cornwall Kernow Models is the other end of the county to me so I rang the shop and asked for the pair of compressors to be included in the package when the 02 tank I've had ordered for a while was posted to me to save on postage cost.

There is a strong conection with Holmans Compressors and Kernow Models as both come from Camborne although the Holmans factory closed some years ago now, in the 60s and 70s it was quite common to see the wears from Holmans traveling east through the county in freight trains often hauled by Warship or class 22 diesels.

Looking around for wagons on which to load my compressors I came across a 3 pack of weathered conflats with AF containers from Hattons for £22 and as a pair of unweathered conflats without containers were being advertised for £25.46 this seemed like a good buy.

So here is the result of the loaded compressors.

The wagons have had the couplings replaced with Smiths instanter links although I retain the Bachman hook drilling it to take the first link and I find the hook needs deepening slightly by rolling a drill in it to stop the coupled wagon's link lifting out when the couplings go slack or during rough shunting. Also the tie bars missing on the Bachmann wagons are added from brass angle between the axle gards, vacuum pipes and lamp irons are also fitted.

Here is Andy Kirkhams picture from his Flickr site of a pair of loaded conflats at the Holmans factory siding.

and a picture from Stephen Burdett of a larger 4 wheeled compressor is where I copied the roping down as the compressors in Andys picture are not yet roped down.

Come to think of it Brian Aston (Premier. photo) may list his flickr pictures as private so you have to be a flickr member to view, it's free to join.
