Allegheny1600
It’s back, it’s bigger, it’s better!More space! More layouts!Following the success of Manchester Model Railway Society’s relaunched city centre exhibition in 2015, the Society has todayreleased details of the attractions at this year’s show. Theexhibition will be on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December 2016, and will again be held in the Barnes Wallis building of theUniversity of Manchester’s northern campus, a mere 250m from Piccadilly Station.More exhibition space has been hired this year and, in addition, the catering area has been almost doubled in size and will open for longer, serving a much wider variety of food throughout the day. Exhibition coordinator, Philip Sweet, said:“We have listened carefully to the feedback from last year’s visitorsand are acting on it to make the exhibition bigger and better thanever. In line with their wishes we have increased the exhibitionspace, improved the catering and have invited more layouts – thereshould be twenty this year, two more than in 2015. One thing whichhas not changed is the quality of the layouts; most of them havebeen featured in one or more of the national railway modellingmagazines in the last 18 months. The variety of traders this year willbe even greater and we are arranging a number of activities designedfor families and children. With Manchester’s acclaimed Christmas street markets nearby, ourshow is the perfect destination for your Christmas shopping”The Society website contains details and pictures of all the layouts, and muchmore information about the exhibition. http://mmrs.co.uk/exhibition/To be kept informed of developments as the Exhibition takes shape, joinour mailing list by emailing: exhibition@mmrs.co.uk Layouts are as follows; Layout Name Scale/ Gauge Location Era FormatArigna Town Ob36.75 Ireland 1950s Fiddle-terminusCrimson Road OO Midlands 21st centDewsbury Midland OO Yorkshire continuous runElcot Road P4 Croydon area 1988 fiddle-terminusForthtal 3.5mm Hoe (9mm) Germany/Austria Modern Fiddle to terminusGrime Street 4mm tram Leeds 1948-54Heatherly N England 2000-2016 Continuous run.Kepier Colliery OO Durham 1960S Fiddle-worksLlantwyn OO9 Wales 1930s ContinuosMelton Mowbray (North) N Midlands 48-53 & 57-62 continuous runMurfitt TT East ScotlandMuseum of Transport OO/others England Present continuousNorthern Vale OO England 2015 Fiddle terminusPortchllin P4 West Scotland 1974 fiddle-throughfiddleSalmon Pastures OO Sheffield 1930s Fiddle to MPDSeabury Town O (FS) England 1960s Fiddle -terminusShasta Z USA 1990s continuousSodor North Western OO Sodorish ContinuousThe End of the Line O/On14 Forest of Dean 1960s Fiddle-terminusThe World's End OO Yorkshire Present day continuous runWater Street Sidings O NE England 1910 Fiddle -terminus Trade, Societies and more details to follow. ReDevil, Not intentional,,,, and please be careful what you wish for!!! I hope you like our "Solar" powered tram!!! Do you have any portable overheads we can borrow for the 2 days!!!! We normally get away with it,,,,BUT,,, not on this occasion I fear. My usual line is, " I can't do the overheads until all the buildings are in place" Hopefully we will be in same hotel and can then exchange notes!!!! I look forward to actually meeting you after our various "pm" exchanges. For obvious reasons we are really looking forward to this show. salmonpastures
Countdown to Manchester Exhibition With just 60 days left before the start of the Manchester Model Railway Society’s exhibition,,,,,, Crikey Allegheny1600,,, Having just looked at the line up can I congratulate you on the very strong Yorkshire offering!!! And why not,,,, this is the first time we have been over t'wrong side but I'm sure we will all be fine. Actually my missus comes from Stockport and I've never had any trouble getting visa's before. [anybody seen me passport!!] That really is one serious list of exhibitors for a show. For me the real attraction of this one is all that airborne undiluted Gortonaura,, what an inspiration. Situation normal from our perspective we are rapidly approaching 6 weeks to set up and we only have about 14 weeks to catch up on the bar chart. Ha Ha,,, don't you just love it when a plan comes together. Sincere regards to all. SAD and everyone at Salmon Pastures.
Allegheny1600
Poignant Tribute at Manchester Exhibition Among the many attractions at Manchester Model Railway Society’s exhibition in December will be a poignant tribute to a member who died in tragic circumstances last year. Colin Robinson was a well respected member of the MMRS and also an awardwinning amateur film maker. At the time of his death he was finishing a biographical film on the life of Richard Trevithick entitled “A Cornish Giant”. The film has now been completed and will receive its première on Saturday 3rd December at the Society’s annual exhibition in central Manchester. The Society have arranged extra exhibition space in 2016, part of which has been allocated to a film theatre which will screen a selection of Colin’s films, including his documentary on the Beyer-Peacock locomotive works and his affectionate look at Chee Tor, one of the Society’s former layouts. Exhibition coordinator, Philip Sweet, said: “It is entirely appropriate that we honour Colin’s memory in this way. The innovative and informative videos that he filmed and edited last year, which explained to visitors the routes to our exhibition venue, played a significant part in the success of last year’s show. He was a keen member of the Society, a fine model engineer and a talented film-maker.” As well as the film screenings and a selection of 20 high class layouts, the Society has also organised a number of hands-on activities for both children and adults. Located just 3 minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly station, with a wide variety of trade stands and with Manchester’s acclaimed Christmas street markets nearby, THE Christmas Model Railway Show is the perfect destination for a Christmas shopping trip. The Society website contains details and pictures of all the layouts, and much more information about the exhibition. www.mmrs.co.uk/exhibition To be kept informed of developments as the Exhibition takes shape, join our mailing list by emailing: exhibition@mmrs.co.uk
Red Devil
Sad to say Grime Street's attendance is currently in doubt, we will do our best to be there however today whilst at work my van (which Grime Street travels in) and a considerable amount of tools were stolen from Rochdale. Obviously this impinges hugely on my workload and ability to carry it out so at the moment 'very up in the air' MMRS have been fantastic about it and I will try to be there, some tram mechanisms were also in the van....so that has put the top hat on it even more. I really daren't say what I'm currently thinking......
Allegheny1600
Oh no! Really sorry to hear that buddy, never mind the show - what a blow to you and your business. I hope things improve for you, fingers crossed for the recovery of your property and the offenders prosecuted severely. Best regards, John.
Allegheny1600
STOP PRESS! Dewsbury Midland* will be featured on ITV on Thursday evening (10th November) at 7:30 - The Tonight programme and it's nationwide! It was filmed to provide background for a programme about HS2. There will be a credit at the end of the programme and hopefully a link to the website through the ITV social media. Obviously we don't know how many seconds of actual exposure we'll get, but this has to be of interest to all. *As featured at the Manchester show! Allegheny1600
Countdown to Exhibition With less than a fortnight to go, the organising team at Manchester’s ground breaking Model Railway Society, the third oldest in the world, are completing their final preparations for “THE Christmas Model Railway Show – Manchester 2016!” The event, staged over the weekend of December 3rd & 4th at the Barnes Wallis building in Altrincham Street, promises to be very popular, with model railway layouts on display from as far away as Kent, Sussex, Norfolk and Edinburgh. But in addition to 20 visiting model railway layouts, there are also attractions aimed at children, a wide range of trade stands and the film première of “A Cornish Giant”, a documentary on the life of Richard Trevithick. Exhibition coordinator, Philip Sweet said: “We have listened carefully to the comments made by visitors to last year’s show, and have acted on them to put together a really high class exhibition with some of the best model railway layouts in the UK. We intend not only to please the serious modeller, but also to provide a great day out for the whole family. One lucky child will go home with an early Christmas present – the complete model railway set which is the prize in our free to enter competition.” Advance tickets for the exhibition (at a reduced price) are on sale through the Society’s website until the end of November. The exhibition is being staged in the Barnes Wallis Building in Altrincham Street, just 3 minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly station, and has its own multi-storey car park. It is ideally located to combine a visit to the exhibition with a trip to Manchester’s acclaimed Christmas Street Markets. The organisers warn that the exhibition is likely to be crowded on Saturday morning and advise families with small children to come on Saturday afternoon or Sunday. Further details, with pictures of all the layouts appearing at THE Christmas Model Railway Show, are on the Society’s website www.mmrs.co.uk/exhibition Or, for other enquiries, by emailing: exhibition@mmrs.co.uk
5050
Hope to come over by train Saturday morning. Last year the train was a bit full to say the least, standing room only from Dewsbury (9.00 am'ish) with more trying to get on further down the line. Anyone know if later trains are less full? salmonpastures
If nothing else untoward happens (with my luck at the moment!) Grime Street will be there. Big thank you too MMRS for their help and understanding..... That is GOOD news Grime Street,,,, for some time I thought our tram may be on it's own. We look forward to actually meeting you after several useful tram exchanges here on RMweb. A quick update from "The Pastures" before next weeks extravaganza,,,,, our token gesture to working signals are still driving me barmy,,,but I have a full week yet before I actually through in the oily towel!!!!! [it would have been a lot simpler if I had built them into the original design rather than token "add ons" The D9 is now painted and weathered and looking very workmanlike sitting alongside Valour who has recently returned from "micklner's paintshop" & a lovely job he has done too. For obvious reasons I really wanted to push the level of "Gortonaura" for this exhibition and all being well we should have a B3, D11, D9, A5, J10, C13, O5, F2, 3x J11's & 2 x 04's plus various other companies types. A trio of maroon LMS "beauties" are now coaled/dirtied and looking more like working machines than RTR toys,,, they will be joined by a strong contingent of LYR motive power which also seems appropriate considering where we are. If any RMwebbers do attend please come and say hello,,, "westerner" will be in attendance as will Roger and Neville complete with his hat,,,,, and that is not to be missed,,,,,,[ you should be so lucky!!!] SAD

37038
Thanks buddy, Glad to hear you intend to visit. Unfortunately, I am not a regular user of local rail services in this area so I can't say for sure. I'll ask around for you though. JE. Unfortunately, because of the Manchester Christmas Markets, pretty much every train into the city is packed during December. However, outbound trains aren't as bad as the flow of passengers is spread over a longer period.

Allegheny1600
I suppose the Christmas market means that parking will be a problem? Well, without my crystal ball of course, but last year - parking in the multi story that the supplied postcode directs you to, was fine. That's where I parked but I was reasonably early. Busy, of course but you could get parked. Now, I can't say more than that and because I have said this, watch the bloomin parking turn out to be chronic!!! Oh well! Cheers, John.
