PYLLE in 3mm on half a door (SDJR Highbridge Branch)

TT3

Recommended Posts

After a bit of home DIY I was looking at an old leftover door and a big a pile of insulation board off-cuts. While wondering what to do with mess, I decided to browse through some railway books as a distraction from cleaning up and had an idea.  A further look through the railway left overs from other projects produced enough track, scenic material and odds and ends to make a start on something quick and new.

Browsing idly through a picture book on the S and D I found a couple of pictures of PYLLE and thought YES I think this will work.....

A pretty simple plan for an end-to-end cassette system with a loop/siding and over bride on one end close to the platform

Of course a lot of work is needed as this was a weeks work, technical details are pretty basic, Peco HOm pointwork and 3mm society 12mm track bases, peco and SEEP pointmotors, DC operation and vintage bilteezi kits and building papers rescued from other projects.

The signal box is a very good looking model and its nice to to see 3mm on here always like to see this gauge when I visit shows.Had a dabble with TT3 many moons ago sometimes wish I had carried on with this interesting gauge as it offered so many solutions to space etc will look forward to seeing developments.

TT3 is an awful lot of fun, the next step will be to improve/replace the structures with those closer to the prototype as opposed to buildings I found in spares drawer. Currently this project has only cost me a few $$ in glue so will make do and build.

The best thing about the Highbridge branch, especially from 1962-66 is the excellent choice of motive power and rolling stock, this is especially good for a course scale TT3 layout where we only use retro rolling-stock e.g. GEM, BEC kits, modified Triang to keep everything consistent.

The mainstay of the branch the 2251..thoughtfully available as a period GEM kit for Triang jinty chassis..

The useful and appropriate 57XX, as above specifications for TT

Standard 4 tank, bit big as an Ivatt tank would be better but still pretty close..especially if I ever get the body finished on a triang Brittania mech..

Would love to see more pictures of the branch and rolling stock over the 1960 to 1966 period as these are quite hard to come by.

Hello

Having just spotted your thread here on a subject I relate to, I thought it might be helpful to link it to a thread I have started in the S&DJR Group thread.

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/121206-sdjr-on-rmweb/

There you can find links to my Dad's photos of the S&D in the 1960s as well as other threads.

There is an interesting website set up by the Newman family. They had a farm beside Bason Bridge station. There are lots of interesting photos and information about the Somerset Central line there - http://www.newman-family-tree.net/s&d/index.html.

There have been some specific exchanges about Pylle in the RMweb in the last year or so. I will add a post here when I find them.

Best wishes

Phil

Decided a wet and cold Sunday was a good reason to improve the layout starting with the station building. The old Bilteezi one was just a placeholder but did serve a good thing by donating the old doors.

After a bit more thought decided to start replacing the ropey scenery around the station area. Was a bit unsure about what material to use to get that flat dusty look then discovered something with potential around the house

The product, ground up cat litter, goes to dust pretty well, just need to figure out how to stick it down smoothly. Only worry is, having 2 cats I would prefer it not to be used in situ for its' original purpose.

Next job, proper stone and brick S and DJR platforms and to move and replace the good shed if i can find what the roadside looked like.
