Particularly since they migrated South. There are two of Ramiles here http://www.mnr.org.u...k/locos/50019/d and I have this one saved from somewhere. (Hope it doesn't breach any copyright rules). I'm sure someone out there will tell me otherwise but I would guess that this was a rare combination. Still, lovely photo. In fact, I'm sur I've seen some pics of 024 double heading (with another 50) a Yeoman stone train which were taken close to this location. Was this some kind of experiment perhaps? Guest Phil Posted January 1, 2010 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Brian's shot of '031 in Washwood Heath (or Bromford as railwaymen call it) is probably not so rare. 50s were everyday fare for SY drivers and a spare 50 on the shed would have been fair game for a 'tic trip to Bordesley or Kings Norton, or even a special to Moscow (Morris Cowley). We have discussed 50s working freightliners over to Nuneaton, Beeston etc in other threads. Great to prove they were mixed traffic locos though. ChrisB Posted January 1, 2010 Author Share Posted January 1, 2010 Phil I was aware that they had been used for freightliners when they were on the Midland Region, along with MGRs and cement but I wasn't aware of any previous discussions on the subject. Presumably they were on RMWeb 3. I must admit, searching for pics has been fascinating. There aren't that many photos around of 50s on freight and most of those are in the South West. All of the following pics (taken by Stapleton Rd) are of the evening trip working from Plymouth to Exeter Riverside Yard in the early 80s. Finally, this one is from 1980 with 6 wheel milk tanks at Newton Abbot. I remember the evening milk trains coming through Wootton Bassett when I was about 10 years old and they were nearly always very short - 3-6 wagons and hauled by a very grubby 31 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

brian daniels Posted January 1, 2010 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Well chaps 50031 I took in Washwood I worked from Cowley to Longbridge with the body panels and then we triped tics to Washwood Heath then back to Cowley with loaded tics. 50024 on the Calvert bins only came on the train at Oxford working to Bath/Bristol. Another pic of it in Hinksey earlier in the day on a trip from Cowley by the looks of it. The other picture of 50025 rescuing a failed MGR was pretty rare down our way. It had just put it's train away in the sidings so had a driver and shunter on board so went just north of the station and I think dragged it into Hinksey. Did Didcot men sign Longbridge as a rule, or was it more "by exception" as was the case at many depots in years gone by ? I know it was a long time ago, and you may not remember, but did you get to go through the city ? I know SY men had an afternoon Swindon panel train that came up from Longbridge via the West suburban, thru New St, then right away Swindon via Tyseley and Hatton. Great stuff as always.
