MattWallace
Hi all, This is the first conversion that I've done so please be gentle with me! The plan is to convert my TopLink Class 92 (92045 "Chaucer") from this: To this (not my photo of the 12":1ft version): 92032 20120628 Biggleswade by steam60163, on Flickr The first step was to take it apart and see what the motor was up to: Closer inspection revealed that it was a 3-pole Hornby which meant that I had to take the hard-route documented at http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/14310-help-with-wiring-a-dcc-chip-to-Hornby-ringfield-3-pole/ and http://www.brian-lambert.co.uk/DCC.html#The I insulated the screw on the left-hand side of the motor as documented and used a multi-meter to ensure there were no connections between the blades and the chassis: (In the second picture the screw is insulated from the blade with electrical tape) I left the black wire attached to the metal chassis of the motor and then soldered up the various connections as documented in the above links: There is a small lighting board fitted to this model however I have not decided how I am gong to wire up the lights yet so for now I left it in place: I then tried a quick test run: For a model that has been in storage for at least two years, I was amazed that it moved at all! I used blutack to affix the decoder (a LENZ LE1025A) to the plastic undercariage And then I put it all back together again and tested it! Now all I need to do is add the decals: I hope to work some more on this in the coming days...
