  1. rugd yes if you find them let us know.

my 1st sighting was 1030 western musketeer back in october 73 believe it or not came in light engine from st johns into bedford midland on a satuaday then left towards luton possibly to pick up empty stone wagons from leagrave.

on stone workings they use to run round at midland and do the same and go down to leagrave having come up from bletchley.seen a few pics at leagrave/luton and even kempston but alas none at bedford..

    regards.

  2. Have noticed the shot of queen shows headboard clips removed in that clip, possible due to that accident mentioned was it as early as 1963.also noted the date of withdrawel seems wrong..again thought it was feb 76.

    nice shot thou.

  3. am i take to take it that those than still run on dc it will require a decoder change which alas means the body will have to be removed or are they ok on dc straight from the box.

nice slide show by the way.

i will require 2 banger blues for my time span, mainly maroon ones for me.

  4. Am i to take it that those like me that like adding a crew to the cabs have now got to wait for the 2nd production run as most reviews seem to say avoid taking apart.

There was me hoping to have all my Heljan ones replaced by march this year. And does this also include the kernows versions having the cab glued in with the headcode.

As mentioned i have no problem fitting fox transfers waterslide headcodes over the front but having a cab glued in is another thing.

And last is this to delay further what i like many have been waiting for,a western of all westerns.

  5. I believe 1005 recieved works attention due to cab damage in 67 and was released in blue with headboard clips missing from that end.so in viery all her blue livery days. Not an ideal one to model so all my blue ones will carry a change of plates.

  6. I for one await this model with excitement faults or no faults which to me seem easy to amend.

Lets not forget what we have had to put up with over the years and in my eyes the best ever looking diesel ever to run on our railways is getting that  treatment at last and thank Dave and Dapol for this.

  7. As this is photo review topic allways welcome pics of 52s,that last one clearly shows the numbers in the headcode take the box up fully with no gaps.

I have started using fox transfers waterslide headcodes by simply painting the glazing before use a light white so they show through and are still visible in daylight.

More pics of the Dapol western please,as to drool over before release.

  8. Cant remember seeing a thousand with a rubbed out D. but painted over yes.I also believe only one D1018 lost a nameplate after a scrape one side whilst still in service, but am sure i may be proven wrong.

  9. Please dont forget the westerns like all diesels operated in both directions so both ends could be called the front. It has been explained however which end was A and B end.

  10. Can i ask is your hymek the latest batch or the oldest as the differance will be the old or new type wheelsets stopping her running if not the contacts.

As for the Heljan western. The latest batch on testing a few are noisy compared to last years releases for an exception of a few.

As stated elsewhere the lights are next to useless on dc operation but i believe the Bachmann warships to be to bright.

As for me my Heljan westerns are on borrowed time with the release on dapols version although saying that the Heljan one with a bit of work can be a real looking beast and can or should pull a ton.

Do thou check the wheelsets on the hymek as if the older either replace or give a good clean.

B end on a western i believe was identified on one body side only by a bodyside latch under the engine room window.

  11. Silly me.

No sooner than i posted the above thread i found the information in my diesels in depth book of the westerns.

D1005 did only lose them on b end only but as far back as the 24/7/67 so will need to be removed and was the same time she went into blue livery so within my time span.

As with roof fan colour i have noticed D1013 carrys yellow ones the last time i saw her.

    richard.

  12. Have finally took the plunge and ordered 2 versions over the weekend but both will need the headboard clips removed as 1005 and 1029 although trying to find out wene 1005 lossed them as modelling pre 67-73.Any advice or info on D1005 wene she lossed them would be most helpfull.
