Me and the boy went today and it was a great day out .
A high standard of modelling layouts and trade and demos.
Very friendly atmosphere, but I think the guy on the till at squires models has to be the nicest and most polite trader I’ve ever met .(he may be guy that owns it not sure )
had a great conversation with him about upcoming things from them
great show

Wentworth junction on the worsbrough branch was the home of the U1 garrett Monday to Friday it only went back to its parent shed mexbough at the weekends
I believe wentworth junction was classed as a sub shed of mexbough even though there was no actual shed just a siding and water tower
the banking locos getting their coal from the nearby wentworth silkstone colliery by using their loading shute

Inspired by Darius and his amazing MTK 506 build. I decided to try my hand at a mousa models brass 506 I had in the cupboard. This is a rookie build on the dining room table so expect a fair share of errors
I started with the centre car , cut the pieces out and took a file to the areas where I had snipped it from the sheet.
The centre unit consists of 3 pieces of bodyside which are joined with the two door units.
The units have a noticable curve to the side especially at the bottom so I tried to find a method of bending them to the profile of the end of the unit.
Pliers initially but I found more success with clamping the edge between two pieces of balsa and gently applying pressure.
I then clipped pieces together with foldback clips and took the soldering iron to them, expecting a pool of molten brass , I was pleasantly surprised when they joined. It's not the neatest but it holds and its straightish.
Looking forward to how you get on

The empties arrived first and were swapped for the fulls. They couldn't be propelled on to the main, the locos were all at the wrong end.
Don't worry about relevance, I'm happy to see any stuff about this line.
Closure date for Strafford crossing box is very useful but what I would really like is a photo of it.
I’ve never seen a picture of the signalbox either unfortunately
don’t think I know anyone that has, it’s an enigma of a signalbox lol
if I ever drop on one I’ll be sure to let you know

Just trying to get my bearings. is this train heading up the bank?
Great photo btw. More of these please.
Yes it’s heading up the bank with wombwell main junction and aldham estate in the distance
I’ll see if I can find some that have relevance to mikes threadI don’t want to drag it off the topic of wentworth junction

Been in conversation with a friend and he thinks the change in signalling is due to the abolition of strafford crossing signalbox
the date I’ve got for that is
Strafford crossing sb shut
27th feb 1966

Yes.....
The photo is definitely before the crash, the two bankers are hauling the train on to the up main, the train engines waiting on the down main. There would also have been a diesel involved to run to and from the pit, wires only went far enough along the branch for the electrics to hook on.
Now I’m not too sure exactly how this worked but by accounts of someone that worked at the pit they didn’t have a loco there and was done with gravity
picture from Facebook group I run

Just having a thought
with the workings were changed to be tripped to wath and I think diesel hauled after the 1971 crash
and my uncle only starting to take photos around early 70’s I’d say the picture is 1971/72 just before the crash

Do you have date for that photo? The loop signal is still the elevated disc but I have one with two miniature arms. I would like to know when it was changed and why.
I don’t unfortunately my uncle very rarely dated owt
all the pictures he took are from 70’s onwards
Ive only ever seen pictures of it with a disk I will ask around and see if I can find out when it was changed
what’s the date of the picture you have with the two miniature arms ?
Here’s another one of my late uncle’s pictures from the 70’s

Rotherham Westgate railway station was opened by the Sheffield and Rotherham Railway, taken over by the Midland Railway and incorporated into the LMS. As far as I know it was never part of the LNER.
Thanks for correcting me.i really should have made sure before posting
for some reason I thought it was an LNER station but you are correct
OP please ignore my suggestion

Not so much a rural branch terminal but a small terminus with the goods yard facilities
was Rotherham west gate station

In fairness, what they're demolishing is this ramshackle collection of pretend railway architecture pastiche (behind the footbridge), so provided they don't just weigh all the recovered ironwork in for scrap* I don't have a problem with them knocking down the rest. https://maps.app.goo.gl/F9KhBjKTrYPNpMuD8
The only bit of that that looks anything like the old Barnsley Exchange from where it was recovered, is the bridge; quite frankly a recreation of a 1980s Acme deck and bus shelter halt would be an improvement.
*As well as their collective Tuscan acid trip, BMBC also has form on 'removing' old structures for conservation and then mislaying them - https://www.pinterest.jp/pin/this-is-the-tithe-barn-that-stood-in-barnsley-for-over-600-years-in-2023--900508887973998758/
I believe the footbridge came from Dovecliffe level crossing
