1. I picked up an all-third and a composite today. Very nice models, but the curtains might not please everyone......... Tony
2. PM being sent - thanks for reply. Tony
3. I have just given mine [No 13] its first outing at the club tonight and would very much much appreciate comment from others as to the running qualities of theirs'. Straight out of the box, and following instructions to lightly oil the two exposed cogs underneath, I ran the Sentinel for about 25-30 minutes, moderately slowly in each direction, on previously cleaned track. After that time, there was no discernible difference in the running quality : the engine was quite noisy [very noisy at flat out - but I can understand that it probably would be given the gearing], did not respond at all well at low / crawling speeds and tended to judder a lot. A steady, smooth slow run with wagons was not possible. It seemed to me that an hour's running in was probably going to achieve all that it could and further running would produce no better result. Obviously, this is disappointing. But before I return it for a replacement [i really do want one], I would genuinely appreciate some other users' comments : is it worth allowing another half-hour's each way running in ? Are any of your models showing similar characteristics ? Many thanks. Tony
4. Thanks for clarifying this Chris. Tony.
5. Thank you Chris. Nothing was included with mine, I was curious to know if it was an omission. Tony
6. Gin at a shilling a pint........
7. Looking mine [No 13] over this morning I noticed some small holes in each buffer beam - presumably for some sort of plumbing ? Should there have been an accessories bag in that case ? thanks Tony
8. I sympathise Neal - that smoke box door error is a real gaffe, and very disappointing. Neither of mine had this problem but the first arrived in many parts and had to be returned for the second [which was perfect]. I sent a really polite e-mail to Hornby about the condition of the first model - no sarcasm, no rudeness - but received no reply. Naively, maybe, I thought that they would want to know...... Tony
9. No, the fiddley connector is still there, I just didn't photograph it Neal. Tony
10. A pleasure. I'd agree about the lining, and the rivet detail is perhaps just a little over-scale too - but that really is nit-picking [churlish, almost] and Hornby is to be congratulated on this one. And at less than £100 too.... Tony
11. Here goes.... Taken last night in poor light, these show the detail well enough but the colour will be affected obviously. That said, looks OK in natural light to my generally indiscriminate eye. Incidentally, this was a replacement for my first purchase - that one has significant, multiple damage. This one was perfect however. Speedo drive : an arm connects it to the motion - not shown well here. A warning : the bogie is held in place by a very small plastic sleeve which slips over the top of a vertical shaft arising from the bogie frame. It's fairly easy to detach. Nice detail here though, I thought. Note irons for spare lamps. Hope this is of interest. Tony
12. I'd not worry about the front at all Barry. Lots of non-conformist chapels embellished their doorways, often some time after the main chapel was built. Some look incongruous, others match well. Swansea has a few absolute gems to illustrate this. The frontage often has dedication plaques also, noting the date the foundation stone was laid and by whom. Tony
13. Oh, so right...... In another life and more than 30 years ago I was a PSV driver for a year. The combination of a particularly extreme camber and an ancient Guy double decker led me to destroy a bus shelter ; the bus simply relaxed against it. I like to think it was just tired..... Tony.
14. Don't need to now !!! :icon_e_wink:
