  1. These are the two photos which I have been working from, for the Goods Office - The building on the right is a part view of the Goods Office in question circa 1960 and this is a detail of the building from an aerial view in 1948 Will post picture tomorrow of the model in place on the layout
  2. Thanks Gary It was to view an approximation of the overall shape rather than prove the buildings dimensions, which were estimated from its position in relation to other buildings and access roads, etc. Ron
  3. A two storey goods office building stood to the right of the roadway up to the CLC Goods Yard. Have not found any photographs or drawings of this building, with the exception of a part view of the rear of the building, and a number of aerial photographs in which the building is too indistinct to show any detail at all Using scaling of the building from an ordnance survey map, and the typical architecture of adjacent buildings, construction of the structure has been started - This is the face of the building fronting the access roadway The windows have been cut from 20 thou white card, as an alternative to 10 thou styrene Pictures of progress on the forecourt walls will be posted on Friday
  4. That's a nice one, but spray performance not good enough for painting models
  5. Eight of the gate/wall pillars are now fixed in place, and the walls to either side of Undercroft access roadway are fixed The details of this access roadway are a little sketchy - no archive photos of this have been found The Parcels Office is still to have windows installed, and can then be fixed to the baseboard. Five more gate/wall pillars and one wall section are under construction The three sections of walling facing onto Windmill Street are not yet fixed. The printed card cobblestone for the forecourt can be seen in the background The Undercroft access roadway has to be constructed, and the foamboard removed to create the opening into the Undercroft. The roadway will sit on the white card strips at the lower level of the walling. Capping needs to be fitted to the wall between the Undercroft access and the Goods Yard access The pink card surface is a recycled ASDA overhead POS advertising Mother's Day in 2009 The pillars need a little touching up - acrylic over plasticine doesn't take handling well
  6. Yesterday, one of four eight litre bottles of orange juice exploded - luckily it was outside - requiring a few hours cleaning up the pool terrace. Definitely caused by rapid fermentation Anyway, in between large drinks of the juice, have made some modelling progress Looking at a number of archive photos of the station forecourt, the cobblestone coverage was replaced sometime in the early 1900's from a plain linear pattern to a roman fan pattern. This of course means that the Redutex sheets will not be used for the forecourt, and a replacement has been made. Have spent a few hours constructing and printing 0.82m2 of roman fan pattern cobblestone sheets Decided that the brick walls surrounding the forecourt on three sides, and the thirteen gate/wall pillars also needed to be constructed before the cobblestone is laid Constructed from layers of mount card with a printed brick paper cover, as of this morning the walling on Windmill Street, and the walling either side of the access roadway to the Undercroft which passes below the Parcels Office have been built. The printed brick walling sheets for the wall fronting on to Lower Mosley Street have been designed and printed, and await the construction of the mount card core Two of the thirteen pillars built using styrene have also been completed The Parcels Office - model built back in 2010 - is undergoing a little refurbishment, and revision to the slope of the lower part of the walls facing on to the forecourt Another couple of days should see most of these components come together enabling an on-layout building session, when photos of the builds will be more meaningful
  7. I did say the garden was waiting - Well it was two orange trees waiting to be picked actually. SWMBO and guess who now have the task of juicing all these. Looks like I'll be on the juice for a couple months at least Will this speed up or slow down modelling? Only time will tell
  8. Hi, Mike The outside trackwork is at least a year or two off - the garden is waiting Cheers Ron
  9. Thanks, Happy New Year There might be one or two standing on track, but definitely not running Ron
  10. Not a lot of construction to see, so no photos Have been carving and fixing foam and foamboard for the station forecourt, the access roadways from Windmill Street down to the Undercroft and up to the CLC Goods Yard. The foam block base for Lower Mosley Street has been laid and sloped to the correct angle between Windmill Street and Great Bridgewater Street. If all is well tomorrow, will start covering with mount card before the final surfacing takes place
  11. New Year's resolution : Stop pussyfooting around, get yer head down, and get on with the modelling The festivities are over, and not waiting for the weekend to start - Completed the glazing bars on the frontage external canopy, fixed the maintenance walkway and attached a few railway notices to the columns - The wibbly-wobbly walkway - just as the original This is where the Restaurant Block fits behind the canopy Before fitting to the layout, need to construct the forecourt and lay the concourse and forecourt surfaces
  12. All the expected pre-Christmas deliveries were collected from the Correos today - A large package of styrene - for re-stocking Electro-luminescent wire with driver - for the neon signs on the Station Frontage Cobblestone sheets from Redutex in Madrid - for the Station Forecourt Modelling will recommence this weekend when all the festivities are over
  13. Season's Greetings A Very Happy Christmas and A Healthy & Prosperous New Year to All
  14. I don't know, but you can buy Mondaine watches with face diameters as small as 25mm. So it may be possible to produce a working scale clock
  15. Fitted the two station clocks this morning - The external clock facing the forecourt The internal clock facing the concourse and platforms Both are wired up and working satisfactorily The external walkway which enabled access to the upper glazing and the station sign neon lighting is now under construction Hoping the delivery of the EL wire for the neon signage will make it before Christmas - that will give me some interesting and delicate work to do
  16. A few minutes free time to add the valance to the end of the canopy, and show the maintenance walkway in place - The walkways at the front of the station didn't have handrails The restaurant building is another work in progress
  17. .. and I wouldn't fancy one made out of styrene . SWMBO would definitely give me some strange looks, and a 'you're making it with what?'. Sorry dh (runs as required), no reflection on your memories intended
  18. Your comments echo my memory of the station, and which I am trying to recall. All those incidental details lost in the mists of time and which appear to have been missed by photographers of the railway scene Cheers Ron
  19. Just managed to get some painting squeezed into a hectic weekend - A few places under the canopy require a touch-up after the removal of masking tape left a number of paint blemishes The out-of-kilter columns will be straightened when the complete frontage and canopy are fixed on the layout All that remains now is to re-paint the glazing bar assemblies, fix them over the glazing on the canopy, and then fit the access walkway. May take a few days as I have a number of seasonal events to attend, and other arrangements to ensure are still on track (charity related not railway or modelling)
  20. Available spray paints don't match the existing paint. However, have found a spray system which uses an available paint mixing/matching service French import and available in Spain The available/suitable paint types include amongst many, acrylic, synthetic and enamel, and variously in matte, satin and gloss The jar has a capacity of 57ml, and the aerosol cartridge has the capacity to deal with approx. three full jars and nozzle cleaning The sprayer kit and a 500ml tin of matched acrylic paint cost me €31, approx £22, and saves me a substantial amount in delivery charges from the UK by road transport Will finish the painting of the canopy this weekend
  21. Thanks for your contribution. Unfortunately, night time lighting is required, and the background to the neon lighting is white Found 0.9mm dia EL wire on the web, and would be most suitable for the lighting required Cheers Ron
  22. The Canon Powershot A470 digital camera has finally given up, and have reverted to the Minolta Dimage 7i which was a retirement present almost 13 years ago - doesn't time fly? Should get better pictures - but eats batteries
  23. Used the last few millilitres of the beige spray paint, leaving the canopy half finished. National Holiday here in Spain, so have to wait until tomorrow to visit the local paint store Never one to 'let the grass grow underfoot', have carried out trial cuts for the 10 decorative canopy gussets - Three gussets - 10 thou x 23mm x 17mm Look OK from 300mm (12") or more - save on etching Also took the opportunity to cut the large (14mm high) letters for the Station Sign - 20 thou styrene - just need another 2 sets for lamination, cleaning up and deciding on the best method for red neon illumination
