No, not according to the Bachmann past products list https://www.Bachmann.co.uk/page/past-products

The SK and FK have been produced in Crimson and Cream with W numbers but not the CK and BCK. Were there any prototypes so adorned?

That's great, thank you for your help. I hadn't seen the Bachmann list. I've no idea about any prototypes - I'm building up a rake of crimson and cream WR MK1s and was puzzled by the absence of composites.  Thanks again.

  2. Good afternoon.

Did Bachmann ever produce a Mk1 (express type, for the avoidance of doubt) composite or brake composite coach in crimson and cream livery with Western Region numbers? If so, what were the serial numbers please? I've drawn a blank with finding any on the Model Rail database and haven't seen any come up in the usual 2nd hand sources.

Any information gratefully received - thank you.

  3. Good evening.

Does anyone know if there were any Hymek workings over the ex-GWR lines around Birmingham Snow Hill before the transfer to the LMR at the end of 1962 please? I've drawn a complete blank with the online and published sources that I'm aware of so I'm guessing Hymeks didn't visit, but I'd welcome confirmation from someone more knowledgable on the matter than me.

    Thank you.

  4. Good afternoon.

Were iron ore trains ever run with both tipplers and hoppers in the same rake? I'm particularly interested in finding out if this was a regular occurrence on the Western Region between the introduction of tipplers in 1951 and the end of steam on the WR in 1965. The limited range of photos of these trains in my own book collection show trains composed of various types of either tipplers or hoppers, but never the two types together. I've drawn a blank with other online sources so would be grateful for any information on the point or a steer towards any relevant sources.

Thank you in advance for any guidance.

According to the Hodge/Lewis account, 3100 was used for a short time as the Ogmore Jc. yard pilot while the damage was assessed locally, and then sent to Swindon for a fuller examination.  As the loco was 'only 19 years old', it was expected that a full overhaul would follow but Swindon decided to withdraw it, and Hodge/Lewis suggest that this may have been accounting error resulting from an assumption that the loco was actually a 3150.  I'm not sure about this; it may have been the belief at Tondu, but the loco was actually a rebuild of a 3150 and not really 'new' in 1938, and the frames were the original Churchwards, and getting on a bit.

I wonder if the relatively early withdrawal dates for the 31xxs was to do with them having higher pressure versions of the standard 4 boiler, 225lb psi rather than the 200lb psi of the 3150s, 43xxs, 42xxs etc. If the 31xxs were becoming due for work on their non-standard boilers perhaps it was decided it wasn't worth the cost. There were plenty of other large prairies in the 5101, 61xx, 41xx and 81xx series available, particularly with DMUs taking over more of the local passenger traffic.

Does anyone have any idea how long the GWR shirtbutton monogram lasted in service on passenger coaching stock after it stopped being applied in 1942 please? Photographic evidence seems scarce and no existing online threads seem to cover the point. Examples could be seen on brown stock for many years afterwards but I've drawn a blank with passenger coaches. Any information gratefully received - thank you.

I'm sure there was a model of a 3100 shown on the gwr.org site (and the build explained), but I can't find it now.  Worth a trawl of the site although I'm sure you have done anyway.

I remember this but I'm not sure it was on gwr.org  - it may even have been on here. I recall that it was about backdating a 51XX/5101 large prairie to the original Churchward condition when they were still numbered in the 31XX series though, not a conversion to a large boiler 3150 or the 1938 Collett 31XX.

  8. Good afternoon.

I found this photo on the Warwickshire Railways site: https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrc2261.htm

I don't know much about coaches, but these look like BR Mk 1s to me and the I think the maroon coach is a brake composite of some kind. Can anyone confirm if I'm right/talking rubbish and perhaps identify the specific type of coach please? If the photo is correctly dated then I'm surprised to see a Mk1 still in chocolate and cream as late as 1964.

Thank you in advance for any information.

David Geen has agreed to produce a small run of these kits. I am going over next week to sort out the castings. I will report back when ther is some progress.

    Mike Wiltshire

Just caught up with this thread. I'd definitely be up for a kit too.

  10. Good evening.

I recently bought a photo of 7828 Odney Manor at Birmingham Snow Hill from the RS Carpenter collection. The picture is undated beyond 'c. 1957'. In the background, in the Wolverhampton and Stourbridge line bay, 2 passenger vehicles are partly visible, one of which has the number W50101. Was this a DMU or a coach? I have no coach or DMU reference books and an online search has drawn a blank.

Thanks to anyone with any information on the point.
