  1. Hi Frank, What battery did you use to power this loco. And in hindsight would you do anything different? Same question to Robin I'm thinking about converting a GraFar 04, perhaps using a shunters wagon to house the battery and receiver Rgds, Stuart
  2. I disagree, perhaps in the UK where modellers are notoriously tight fisted, but the largest market is the States, where the tendency is to buy new. From a purely business point of view the manufactures can shift 10 units in the States for every 1 sold in the UK. If people really wanted to retro fit, then they could retro fit their old bodyshell onto a new BPRC chassis, but I say start from new.

I agree with both of the above, There is a real inertia within the industry i.e. Dapol, Bachman & Hornby to engage with this technology, every reason they can think of not to embrace BPRC can be rationally counter argued. Battery technology is improving all the time and unless you want to run a high speed train at full volume continuously round an large oval then battery life should not be too much of a problem and, if you want to run locos at a realistic speed or operate a shunting layout or a small terminus then so much the better. The whole point is to free people from track wiring and track cleaning. Point work as complicated as you like and not one single wire.....ever! Why they can't see this as a selling point is beyond me? It will come in time.

Please don't apologise, BPRC should be encouraged in any gauge, as it is the future of the hobby Also as the technology becomes more widespread it will eventually be able to be shrunk down to ngauge/2mm. Personally I welcome any individual or company that can make BPRC available to the mass market keep up the good work and please keep us informed of your progress as not everyone who will read this thread will be an ngauge/2mm modeller Rgds, Stuart

Robin, The reason I am challenging your video is because I can't see the ends of the track, so how do I know you don't have a power supply hooked up to it, if your video had included both ends and was raised off the table so it is possible to see that there are no wires connected to the track, then you would have 'PROVED' your model is indeed BPRC I don't see what your problem is All I've asked you to do is provide a video that PROVES your model is running via battery and radio control, e.g. running track free across the top of a table as I did in my video at the start of this thread, or as you say upside down so the wheels are free from rail. If your loco is BPRC, then this should not be a problem. As to being the unelected spokesperson for BPRC, I'm not sure about that, but I did start this thread to demonstrate what I believe to be the future of Model railways, please feel free not to participate in this thread if you so wish. I look forward to seeing a video of your loco running track free, otherwise I would be grateful if you left this thread as I'd rather spend my time promoting the virtues of BPRC rather than engaging in a slanging match Rgds, Stuart
  8. Great, in that case show me a video of that, and then you will have PROVED and DEMONSTRATED your work. It might seem as if I'm being nit picky, but its not me you have to convince, its the rest of the hobby and if some one can question your evidence ie: is there anything connected to the track, then the demonstration fails to convince those who need convincing. So why not take another video, as you have suggested of the loco on it's back or even running track free across a table top, then you will have PROVED that your system is viable, until such time I will continue to question your results.   9. Hi Robin, Thanks for the video, however....... In order for your BPRC to be taken seriously it has to be seen to be wire free beyond all doubt unfortunately in your video the ends of the track can't be seen, so for all we know they the track is 'wired' to the controller. I'm not saying it is, but the video does not provide satisfactory evidence to the contry. It would be better if you were to film the loco while you hold it in mid air and then use the controller to speed up, slow down and reverse the wheels, that way it would prove beyond doubt that your loco is indeed not being powered through the rails and is indeed a BPRC loco. Robin, The trouble with text is that subtle humour can get lost in the translation Secondly, yes I do remain to be convinced, It would be like me saying that I had discovered perpetual motion and then failing to produce the evidence to substantiate my claim. I don't 'dis-believe' you, but until I see video proof that your system is up and running, I will reserve judgement. Besides it's not me you have to convince. If we want to make BPRC locos the norm, then we have to demonstrate that it is possible to such an extent that other people want and can convert their locos; as these numbers grow, then the manufactures will start to take an interest, but this will only happen with evidence, in other words, post a video of your Deltang system in action, but please don't deride another system (in this case the Acc+Ess) which is almost ready to offer a retail product.   16. Hi David, welcome to the discussion. The way I see it, every loco would have a unique address, Just like a stadium full of people can all have mobile phones that only answer their number. This would all go on under the hood. But it would make sense manufactures to get together at the start and create a 'standard address system' for rc locos before they all launch off in different directions, that way all controllers and locos would be compatible with each other.

Regarding battery sizes; when the manufactures start producing battery powered/radio controlled locos, which they will, its just a case of when. I envisage the chassis becoming the battery (see previous comments and, I'm mainly talking nguage here because that's the size I work in) Of course in the bigger scales eg:00 battery size is not a problem as there is masses of room inside those larger models

It might make sense to use a standard motor and battery in each loco if charging different types of battery becomes a problem, although the charger I use for charging my standard rechargeable battery's, charges different battery's of different ratings, I'm no expert, but surly a battery will only take the charge it requires and then the charger will stop charging, failure to have such a cut off would be potentially dangerous. With regard to a charging track, a simple rectifier should suffice to provide fixed polarity, ie: a fixed positive rail and a fixed negative rail.

If that is the case, the model in the video shown at the start of this thread is ngauge (just about) The 9v battery is slightly to large to fit into an ngauge bodyshell, However by replacing the chassis with a chassis shaped battery (see previous posts) And adding a radio transmitter/receiver to a dcc decoder, the electronics would not be much larger than dcc decoders presently used today. So to answer the question, yes, this idea would work for ngauge as well

  24. Its not me you have to convince, I'm the preacher here, its some of the flock who still need convincing I understand the lack of direction on the table top, but it does prove that the loco is working free of the track. Rgds, StuartM
