This is virtually the same as my own plans, as I too recently acquired a Bachmann 56xx and plan to renumber it to 5643!! Mind you, I'm doing it as I rode the footplate back in 2009 at Llangollen and wanted a model of it ever since...!
On that note, has anyone got any ideas as to how you replicate that beautiful gloss sheen on 5643? The one I bought is 5601 which is almost completely matt... I have the Modelmasters transfers to line and renumber it, but that finish....!!
Great pictures; may I 'borrow' some for my own project?

Good on yer; can't have enough North Wales on this board methinks !!
Was up in Llandudno two weeks ago - not what it was in the 80's but still plenty going on...mind you have to say I don't like the new dull-blue/bland-grey livery - give me the turqoise and cream anyday!! Got a few of those on my layout; they do look nice....mind you, your models are looking good too...
Will you be starting a thread on it...??

Lets not forget some of the nerks behind the layouts. The loud, bigheaded ones that think that their layout is the best thing ever 'cos its been in a magazine. The ones that are too arrogant to answer polite questions, believing that we should all be expert modellers and can recognise, for example, Smiths couplings when we see them. The ones that seem suprised that someone under 50 or who doesn't fit into the modeller stereotype could ask an intelligent question or show some knowledge about, well, anything. The ones that are too busy chatting to their mates to run anything, even though there's a crowd in front of their layout wanting to see trains move. And the ones who insist on boring you to death, usually unprompted, when all you want to do is move on and grab a brew.
Posted in the interest of balance!
Paul.
You clearly attended the same exhibitions as me then...nothing worse than a cold shoulder from the operators; you have paid money to see their offerings so why they are so reticent to engage with the great unwashed?!
It is a mystery...but there are exceptions (see first post !!)

Kidmore Vale, perhaps....

I really like the contrast in the vent van shot - before and after as it were - just shows what can be done with good ol' Humbrol
-
massive improvement - I have the Black 5 so is especially useful...
Have you tried with the older mk1's at all?
-
Not neccessarily a truncated main line - a full main line! ertainly Eastbourne, Seaford & Bognor in Sussexhad two lines in, and Easbourne had extensive loco and freight facilities in the steam age.
Remember - its whats important to YOU thats important!

Thanks Ian; appreciate that

Hmmm, ok so putting the carriage sidings in place of the goods shed etc. seems logical...
How's this for a thought:
The preserved line shares the station with current operations; DMU's on the nearest platform, Black 5's on the other...??!!
Then you could have the two lines running in - one for current, one for preserved, maybe fenced off or delineated in some way,
or - would they be ok to share the lines?? It could be a junction of the two...??
