Two pics from 3mm glos group meeting yesterday . AB COVvan in rf brown and a brake van, fitted with working directional sensitive tail lamps, fitted with wiper pickups. "photo plank" is the house and camping coach siding from Minsterley. For taking pics camping coach shunted clear.
Group of 8 met up for the day and progressed pet projects together, lubricated with coffee and biscuits etc.
Also had a play with new Hornby track which ran quite happily.

Hi Just a wild update to show my Vic Berry lookalike pile of partly started loco/dmu projects.
Many are LL (Lenny Seeny ) products but include 3SMR brass 40 and 73. Shapeways sourced 158. GWR razor car and class 120. A Bruce Smetham Western at rear of first photo. Some run on chassis others will offer swap bodies
hopefully not too scary but it does knock on the head the "nothing is available" arguements.
Not shown are a mass of Worsley works coaches, emu and DMUs all part started. Hopefully life not too short to actually finish a few in time.

Yes looks to be a good idea showing power through the age HST PC next? I guess work required is huge and labour force has more than enough work but to fit DCC style sound could be a bit of fun for somebody.

The TSO(L) car has a toilet unlike the middle coach on 150001/002 - some work would be required
You can never win! The BRB/ BREL draughtsman must enjoyed the "standarisation" tag.. The pan car is better but of course the roof on the model is moulded with the body side. Even though windows are right ! Certainly the TSOL would be the way forward.
such musings and fun with filler and files is what keeps me going!

Great pic of a time long gone, looking at the age of the two on the running plate alone hints of a harder life and sobering thought perhaps that WW1 was only 4 years away - did all these young men survive?
In better happier thoughts happy new year and thanks for all the updates on the layout.

Good work impressed with the bogies and as you say the short run will be ok. some sort of ptfe grease might help otherwise. I look forward to more updates.
Thanks for sharing

Overtime over festive weekend in Wagon works with 19 worked on - UTA spoils almost over the finishing line, brakes on ammonia wagons created by copying the etched set but bogies gone MIA so added those to a quick soldering session. The three bogie cements got the fiddly manifolds created - light bulb moment using kato sprues in a junk box a case of "you never when it will come in useful" actually working out.
So nothing finished but given a good shove.
Final wagons ought to be Foynes - silvermines wagons and some rail carrier bogie wagons.
Hopefully that covers most flows in Ireland along with the wonderful wagons from IRM. Only short rakes of 3 or 4 wagons - ideal for a Limerick wagon works trips for repairs.

Hi
Well not able to upload pics due to sickly PC and probably user error.. I can add now made up five fuel tank container wagons and the 10 coal containers so along with a barrier or two from the IRM orange side door container .
Also found time to paint and weather the three cement bifold wagons but find I have castings for a forth which is confusing to say the least. Found bits to make a short PW flat 23xxx series - seen a pic with a car on one so maybe a suitable load at some time. looking now to progress the UTA spoil wags, bogie cements and ammonia tanks over the holiday period as only myself to amuse for 3 days.

I will have to donate an organ to get a couple of IOW ones and hope that a dino livery can be recreated in time. but to get 4 sets from the get go will make it possible in a large garage /shed/loft to make a model of the whole network!
Thanks!

Hi
Just wondering how this has got on?

Great to read of developments across the layout, I was able to visit in the autumn and was pleased to see it in the flesh and how well it ran and looked - the gentle progress in refreshing scenery pays dividends and the photos do look good.

A great gent in many ways along with above had a love of 2 foot gauge steam and was active on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland railways, so much so he had his own 2 foot gauge "garden railway" with DHR loco and a lovely saloon coach for high days and holidays . When time allowed he helped in the parks and gardens department on the FR and we worked together. Quiet but powerful force of good and a good leader of people. A loss to many and as often happens taken too early.

Darius, Yes OD same in the two issues I have.
I wonder how much use the walkway got - it would have been slippery with oil with in weeks of entering traffic and no oil lamps to drop in the roof I wonder what it was intended to aid. The toilet tank filler pipes were low level after all.

I do like the walkway on the roof - Is it a hand scored or strip and separate sides? Looking good and if world stops rushing around I might be able to follow in your foot steps!
Viz bogies they do look BR dmu esk best phot I found was in the small spotting books of irish stock - vehicle 63 IIRC.

Stand E11 is Attwood Aggregates and is on the floor plan, Stand E11A is Keeping it Rusty is not on the floor plan, with a lot of last minute changes the floor plan should not have been put into the public domain, is this the reason why the 2019 floor plan is still on the website?? just hope all of the corrections are sorted for the happy band of "Yellow Canary" volunteers helping people find stands and on the website version for people planning their route around the hall.
Me too Elaine! Dealing with the range of changes has been a challenge for all concerned and it does look as though show guide/magazine and floor plan therein was published in good faith- and then the changes started - it would have been possible I guess to say no it is set in stone and put off some new names. I guess it will be an adventure for some ... 600 tables amd 1400 chairs hired now not bad for the local clubs local show in a local hall. See you on 38 very soon

Beggars belief in last sentence, now after £3M to further business case , well at guess £3m is one mile of track not laid or if "they" just get on with it 1 mile laid. A project suitable for second hand rail and not a HS2 type spec ..
scheme is a mini me for Borders rail and look how that has become a crowning achievement in reopenings and sometimes an overcrowding achievement!

Now that does look good can almost hear the EE splutering along.. going to for the last livery with the inverted door colours or a sprinteresk first colour? Good tip on the bogie centres - will check the 80class that arrived today, equally good.
Defo going to save up the money for one .

Wickam G , IIRC and it was over 10 years ago I look at the book it was possible the electric traction was only hill tractors put on and off as assisting traction. Ok for freight of course. Mind you having a traction change might have seen more use of steam locos so quite possible steam heat versions like the EM2 was on the cards. It is good to muse on the idea of GWR colour EM2 hauling trains along the sea wall, or 4 Subs with a motor coach each end to make a 6 car "fast Paddington - Reading in the 1930s peak hours.

Hi Certainly not half hearted by sister has handled documents and a heavy illustrated tome in a commercial archive for Merz and McLellen along the lines of the LNER version showing schemes and traction another private scheme that floundered with WW2 . IIRC the idea was a London - Reading suburban network and then a Taunton - Plymouth scheme for electric traction over the hills. Likely as assisting locos on many trains so steam loco could heat train in winter.

Given trams have feelings as well I am surprised that the bloke did not get run over after bending the wipers in a childish fit.
