  1. I promised a video and here it is.

I hope the video shows that the loco runs very well despite issues with the tender - as others have commented it is far too light and the front pair of wheels tend to skate over the track in places.  I intend to close couple the tender so I'll sort out the those issues at the same time.

    Regards,

    Brian.

Hi Nigel, No, There will be very little Passenger Service / Stock running, possibly a 153 or 150 and that will be about it, its really all about freight, and Locos for me. I think with the curves I've had to have through the Station and at the opposite end that's not yet built, the Mk3's would look very long.

I must admit, it is a nice idea though.

    Cheers.

You've got a lot of platform space in that station Andy.  It would be a shame not to use it to its full potential.  Just saying.

    Hat coat etc

Don't forget your winkle pickers Andy.

  4. Is there anything more boring than fence painting? Put a shift in today but eased the pain by having Cold Play albums on shuffle on the headphones. Knackered now, time for bed. Nighty night.

There has to be a medical term for building that many layouts surely?!

Must be some sort of injury - maybe repetitive train injury?

  6. The postie delivered my J27 "65837" this morning all in one piece it seems.  The only damage I have spotted thus far is that the front lamp brackets have a decided lean to the rear, easily straightened I hope (fingers crossed).  I have just placed the loco on my layout and it runs beautifully smoothly and quietly through my live frog points under DC power (old school, me ) without any running in.  I attach some pics below of a J27 in its natural environment i.e. the colliery on my layout.

The layout is loco-less at the moment because we have been away at the layout is housed in my shed.  I'll put a video up when I've repopulated the layout in a few days.

    Brian.

  7. Welcome back to oo gauge Andy, it's been a while. While I model in the (distant) past, I do have a soft spot for the Class 66 locos I see on container traffic on my local line. There are some cracking new models available now I see. Will you be indulging?

All the best with the new project.

In the absence of any comments/questions/general information, can I ask a question? This is for my own interest, nothing more.

How many of you that post on here are active layout builders/have something long-term "on the go"?

And how many of you are passive onlookers, just watching developments - on this and other threads?

I'm not being judgemental, as everyone is entitled to be as involved in modelling as much or as little as they please.

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

Yes layout substantially complete, oo gauge code 75 live frogs, pretty much all rtr locos and stock but I do build my own buildings using Scalescenes techniques. I do have a white metal loco kit (DJH D20) on the go but I'm struggling with it a bit. 3 bridges and two viaducts (not a patch on yours) and gradients which defeat odd locos pulling any sort of load. All good fun though.

  9. Despite having been pre-warned this news was coming, it's still such an emotional shock. Like many others, I only new Gordon through RMWeb and much admired his first class modelling - such a shame that ET will not now be completed by its creator. As I get older, having recently celebrated my three score and twelve, I am very conscious that no one lives forever but it is always difficult to accept this fact when hearing such news. It's not the first time I have lost a RMWeb friend and no doubt it won't be the last. Still always sad and difficult to accept.

Deepest sympathy and heart felt condolences to Gordon's family and close friends.

    Brian.

  10. Gordon,

I shared the news of your predicament with my wife and we both send our best wishes to you for a speedy recovery.  Take it easy when you get home and just sit and watch those trains go round.

Looking forward to hearing about ET progress in the fullness of time.

You are in our prayers my friend.

    Best Regards,

    Brian (and Mrs D).

  11. Hi Jeff, this is brilliant stuff, very evocative.

You mention recycling the dry stone walls from your previous layout(s) but I can't remember what happened to the previous viaducts (whose construction I followed avidly at the time, and subsequently made a poor imitation). Can you remind me please. Apologies if this has recently been answered - it's the age you know. Please tell me they didn't go in the skip.

    Regards,

    Brian.

I wonder if you were trying to make a point, Brian - that last post came through 3 times.

    Jeff

Hmmm, very strange.  Certainly didn't post it three times.   I did send it from my Android phone though, not from the usual Windows laptop or Chromebook.  I still don't fully understand why different "devices" behave differently.  No axe to grind about the land form colour, just curious.

    Regards,

    Brian.

An appropriate comment Neil, as the paint is a (no longer available) Matt emulsion called "Choc Chip"

What a transformation, really great. I also paint my scenic plaster land form brown but others I know paint their's green - please discuss fellow followers :-)

    Regards Brian.
