  1. I am looking to change the dates on my HO swiss loco stock to fit into my period of modelling (1979) but am struggling to find dates when locos went in for maintenance and subsequently had their date changed on the locomotive sides.

Is their a website to find this information or a book on the various classes of swiss locos? I haven't been able to find either via internet surfing thus far.

  2. Good evening all.

i have been on the lookout for a SBB Rbe 4/4 in plain green livery. I see that Piko do/did a green livery but with a red end.

Does anyone know the significance of the different colour end? Was it for a certain line, region, or specific period at all?

  4. I have Claude Jeanmaire’s excellent and thorough book on all things Brunigbahn but one thing puzzles me.

locos 901-916 are referred to in the photographs as: Fhe 4/6, Feh 4/6, Geh 4/6 and Ghe 4/6. They all look the same in every photograph. Am I missing something?

  5. Thank you, both.

I find it very interesting to accumulate knowledge in this way. You can't beat tapping into guys with a lot of swiss railway knowledge.

I am seriously considering modelling St Moritz in early 1970s condition. I have the track plan as at 1966 which wouldn't I assume have changed much by early 1970s.

So the line to Chur will have stahlwagens fronted by Ge 4/4 is, Ge 6/6 I & IIs, Ge 4/6s with I assume Ge 2/2 or Tm 2/2s buzzing around on shunting duties.

Meanwhile the Bernina platforms will have ABe 4/4 I & IIs to-ing and fro-ing with the odd RhB coach and a couple of wagons in tow.

  6. Before the days of red locomotives what locomotives were used on the Bernina line from Tirano to St Moritz in the late 60s early 70s?

I assume Ge 6/6 Is, Ge 2/4s, Ge 4/6s (all in brown livery) and ABe 4/4 I railcars (in yellow or red?) were the DC locos.

Would standard RhB coaches be used or did the Berninabahn have different liveries too?

Presumably the Albula line to St Moritz used green Ge 4/4 Is and Ge 6/6 IIs before the Ge 4/4 IIs were introduced in 1973?

Wonderful layout. I look forward to the morning photo every time I log on.

Could I ask how you achieved the yard flooring for the farm. I am modelling a station that will have a large area of goods yard and the effect I am looking for is exactly what you have achieved.

  8. Spot on Keith. I only have a colour photo from 1947 of Newport but have read that the tank sides were painted malachite.

My period of modelling (1950) only had 2 types of locomotive put 5 different loco liveries and 2 coach liveries.

  9. GeoffBird, in answer to your comments on W34 'Newport' , she wasn't actually painted in Malachite, but a lighter shade. The only IOW loco to be painted this colour. A few IOW books are containing colour photos now and there is certainly evidence that she was lighter - even referred to in the text of one of the books.

For authenticity I would change her name and numbers to one of the other O2s that were actually painted Malachite. I would think that this will be a simple task. The nameplates are ready available and so to the number transfers. I assume the existing decals will come off easily with something.
