  1. I do like this one, the bus is on the site of Crystal Palace High Level station, the bridge is the pedestrian route to the glass building.
  2. Dave, you can burble my fin any time. Bill
  3. A couple of job vacancies have just been announces. CVs to 10 Downing Street, please.
  4. On duty this evening. It is Mary's first time out! Bill
  5. Two points from the above correspondence. I saw Jenny Agutter outside the Royal Festival Hall a couple of week's ago - looking good. Second, my late uncle was navigator on HMS Bulldog. RNVR - his "day" job was a bank manager! He was later a god awful dinghy sailor - after a few incidents when the boom went across without any prior warning, my sister and I refused to sail with him. In my case, I had a couple of more important engagements - spotting Bournemouth shed and yellow trolleybuses. Aunt: "You're letting him go out on his own?" Mum: "Yes look you, he has your telephone number and four pennies in his pocket. And he won't get lost, he's memorised all the trolleybus routes."
  6. Morning all. I have a concert in London this evening. So after the church zoom meeting, I will take the 136 bus for the length of its trip to the Elephant & Castle and walk to the South Bank. I'll be horribly early so will take my German homework. I need to be careful of fluid intake, because Mahler 3 is very long and there ain't no interval! Then the return trip about 9:30pm. Then Southwark Bridge tomorrow. Dave, glad all is going smoothly at the moment. Just asking, but do you have any siblings? Also, I assume you are aware that you can vary the will, so that money can go to charity rather than fund Government parties. Bill
  7. Dave, very sorry to read your news. He may have had a premonition when he accepted hospital care and I hope he left this world gently and peacefully, and without pain. Concentrate on your needs for a while and take the opportunity to arrange a good send off. Best wishes, Bill
  8. A high ratio of incomprehendents. Bill
  9. Jesse, I might be interested in a LNWR full brake, if you think it could be converted to P4. Bill
  10. On duty last night. We only treated one patient, our other shouts were either out of remit or quicker units (well they do have blue lights). Interesting, but unlike Jamie and Brian's ancient history ... better not discuss. Today, after a late start, involved shopping and working on the layout. Bill
  11. Yesterday was the pink team against the blue team, in other words Middlesex v. Surrey in a 20/20 game. My patrol was positioned behind a bunch of Chelsea yuppies. We had to move, they talk absolute tommyrot in very loud voices. This evening I'm out and about in South East London. Bill
  12. ..... or did I mean deliquescent? It's almost 50 years since my chemistry degree! Off to Lord's later for a 20/20 match: not my favourite form of cricket. Bill
  13. I use dried tea leaves as ground cover, sprinkled on the final skim of plaster. Don't use coffee grounds, they are hygroscopic. Dave, lovely to have you back. Bill
  14. No, even Parkinson is a better batter. Part of the first aid team. Bill
  15. I saw the vet today two months after my knee surgery. Apparently he had to sew up both meniscuses and clean out some arthritis. But there is little likelihood of bone-on-bone so a knee replacement is unlikely, and this is the "bad" knee. Bill
  16. I've been missing for a few days, having spent Thursday to Saturday at Lord's, watching quite a lot of cricket. Total cost £0.00 as travel is free on bank holidays. A bit topsy turvy as the bowlers were dominating on a docile pitch. We had a lot of custom, certainly on the three days I was there, although most of my patients were falls after close of play. I'm back for a 20/20 on Thursday. Bill
  17. Thanks Ian, but still begs the question why there is still a reduced Eurostar service. Bill
  18. Not sure if that is true anymore. St Pancras was designed pre Brexit for a security and passport check. It's quite a small area. There are now multiple passport checks, as well as immigration and customs and I wonder if this is a limiting factor in the number of people that can be processed and the number of trains that can be run. I looked into costs for a four day trip to Germany and the costs were just stupid. Bill
  19. And if I might mention Timothy Evans.
  20. Writing this in May 2022, has anyone changed recently from Eurostar to domestic rail services. If so, are there any customs or immigration delays at Bruxelles Midi? Or will I make the infamous 20 min connexion onto the Frankfurt train? Bill
  21. Andy, beware, there may be a Hippo in residence before tomorrow. Bill
  22. So did we for three reasons. 1. a family decision that the dog could come on holiday, so we would stay in a caravan. One very happy Jack Russell, organising the children's' games. 2. we chose South Wales, because my sister would spend one week pony trekking; which meant she missed 3. the middle Sunday was a trip to the valleys to visit Mum's relatives. I would be togged out in school uniform, we would be in the parlour and served tea in the best china. Mum and her cousin would spend a few minutes warming up. Then the conversation was in English, but not in an English that either my father or I could understand, but 200 words per minute and in the "sing-song" accent of her childhood. Bill
  23. A duty at Lord's yesterday, the first day of Middlesex v. Leicester, so cricket watched in the cold. Anyway lunch was in the Mound stand (a nice warm curry) but we met a rather fat gentleman as we got into the lift. "Hello, Mike", I said because it was indeed Mr Gatting. One of the really nice, genuine people. When we got out of the lift my oppo (in his 20s) asked "who was that?". Such is fame. Mike, of course, was off for an executive lunch. Bill
  24. Lost an hour of my life attempting to purchase a brace of medical watches. I wanted to use a localish company rather than an impersonal multinational. But the checkout had an unbreakable loop between requiring a captcha code and an alert code from my Credit Card provider. Do I love modern technology? Bill
