  1. I'm off to the Wimbledon Model Railway Club centenary celebration this evening. Unlikely to post tomorrow morning.
  2. I cleared a shelf in the back bedroom and found a couple of O gauge Kemilway brass kits. GNR D277 and LNER D257 I no longer have a need for them because I've moved on to other projects. I'm posting on WW because I would like to sell them to someone likely to build them and also because a few bits were never provided. I'm unsure of value but am not out to make a killing. Bill
  3. Andy, just now I had just left "The Night Mail" and was about to enter "Wright Writes". Went upstairs to get some information, came down and the screen was plastered with MacAfee warnings, Bill
  4. Blindheim loaded into the Yeti and ready to set off for Longfield.
  5. Richard, are there more people in the MoD than in the armed forces?
  6. Simon came round today and we finished rewiring the layout. It is just about ready for Longfield next weekend. Not unsurprisingly, we forewent the garage in favour of the kitchen worktop. A few getroundtuit jobs and Blindheim will be ready to pack.
  7. Given the spelling, I think Jamie is still eating it.
  8. About 1600 more than I made in my career. Wicket keeper / no 11 batter.
  9. Typing this on the handy. I'll explain why. I have been carrying baseboards into the kitchen to start a rewiring. Well I still have a fortnight to the next show. The work will be finished on Friday. Having rewired board 3, I decided to finish the ballasting. Only two short lengths which took about an hour. Standard PVA technique advocated by every magazine editor from CJF onwards; and I remembered the washing up liquid. All fine and dandy except I have wet ballast and must turn the board on its side on Friday. So the board is sitting on two chair backs above an oil filled radiator in front of my computer desk. And I'm using the handy!
  10. So Polish Andy's day job is painting new SBB stock.
  11. I posted a couple of books on LSWR locomotives to a friend in Italy. Completing the paperwork and waiting in the Post Office for the clerk to check it took about an hour which, if I were working, I would cost at £20. The alternative would be to register at a cost of some £20,000pa, which Hatton's did for Ireland. Either way, a considerable cost which may have eliminated any profit on European sales. And 13% is a significant amount of a company's outturn. Bill
  12. So in 2mm, plans for a German N gauge tram layout. In 4mm, a small amount of P4 stock for Southwark Bridge. In 7mm, both 1:43.5 (Southern Railway in 1931) and 1:45 (Upper Franconia in 1961).
  13. Backscene painted. Then done the ironing to warm up. Raymond, condensation isn't the main problem, hypothermia is - a 24' x 8' garage verses one oil filled radiator.
  14. Snowing, but not settling, in South East London. I popped out about an hour ago to turn on the garage heater. I will go out soon to paint a backscene on the new board. Bill
  15. Rob, I can provide a lump of coal, via Andy / Peter at a SEGOG meeting. Real railway coal, picked up at the Bluebell. Bill

    On Cats

We ended up with quite a routine for the evening constitutional. The dog would decide it was due, so the duty human would change their feet and put on a coat. Then it was a matter of finding the cat and asking if he were joining us. Harvey could be indoors, outdoors or visiting neighbours so might join after the walk had started. If it were just Toddy, then it would be round the block. But if Harvey was with us, then it would be out and back as he would disappear into a garden and do what a cat has to do. His trick was to wait on a wall and land on Toddy as he came past. All 50 years ago.
  17. Off for a shift until 2am tomorrow. Happy new year, all you TNM people. Bill
  18. Turned out to be a normal day for LAS, with about 5000 calls in the 24 hours. We responded to two of them and finished at midnight. Our next duty is Friday, then New Year's Eve - both could be "interesting". I've done two church services - two more to do, and setting up a fifth before I drive down to my sister. I'll be in read only mode for a couple of days; so, Happy Christmas to all TNMers.
  19. I'm off in a few minutes on a CFR duty. In theory only until midnight but there could be drunks out there, on top of the usual quota of sick people.
  20. I managed both dentist and barber today!
