  1. In keeping with pirates day I knocked up an old shanty for AL To the Tune of the wild rover....

I've binned my land rover for ever I fear

and now I've no money for whiskey and beer.

I went to the forum I often frequent

and I told all the members me money is spent.

They said I should scratch build, because that would be best

but I don't like to show them, as they think I am a pest.

    And its no nay never

    no nay never no more

will I play with my choo choos

with me foot to the floor.

  2. We were there all day and truth is i could have spent a week there and still not got everything done i would have like to.

I understand for some it might not be what they expected, it was unlike any other show i have seen, but for me it is the future. I get bored of the same old show format and decided to only travel to local ones in the future.

Only exception to this will be this if it runs again and its mini me, aka wrec rail

  3. Cool....

Reminds me to say as a General Point to note... :)

If we do not identify someone in a picture, it is intentional. We don't presume that somebody wants to be identified unless they have said ok previously, and leave it to them to shout out if they are happy to put their name to a face.

So if you guys n gals see yourself and are happy to identify yourself in pictures please do.

If we capture somebody in a picture and they wish to be obscured, we are happy to do that to.

The thread is as much a about those that join us here as anything we put up, don't be shy if you have something to say.

  4. Hi

Your more than welcome to post here. As i have said before, it it is when AV is going through one of its interactive periods, i enjoy it the most.

If someone has got something to say, then we are always happy to hear it, on any subject. Not much is off topic here.

Great pictures, and great to chat with you yesterday.

  5. Right so here goes.  Here are the pictures of the Welsh Fusiliers with Colour Sergeant Kal and his wife Jaz.  I have not done much else on the modelling bench for weeks, and to be honest looking at these pictures may do some more work on them before I finally varnish them but I shall do them as I do other things so I am posting them not because they look wonderful or that I am completely happy with them, more that I am moving on, although not quite sure what to yet.

    The whole parade

    attachicon.gifFusilliers 1.jpg

Of course as I edited it I realised Jaz is out of focus, being too clever that was the trouble.

    attachicon.gifFusilliers 2.jpg

Still a bit out of focus.  Now in case you have wondered I have already pm'd Jaz with a picture of the figure.  (You do not think that I would put up a model of someone who knows how to paint and understands colour without getting their approval first do you?)  Jaz suggested that I highlighted some folds with a pale grey wash.  I tried and it was a disaster although there may still be a trace of it.

    attachicon.gifFusilliers 3.jpg

    The other side

    attachicon.gifFusilliers 4.jpg

More of the parade close up.  I am not posting the front three as the bugler is out of focus. (My camera is completely adjustable apart from the focus)

You will note that some sergeants have gold stripes the others are lance sergeants and their stripes are white.

    attachicon.gifFusilliers 5.jpg

This is just to show that Kal really is a colour sergeant.  The gold dot above the stripes should be a red and gold crown- no not in 4mm.

    attachicon.gifFusilliers 6.jpg

Another of Kal & Jaz.  It was suggested brown 'pork chops' with an orange tinge.  I tried using a yellow ochre gauche, a type of paint that I had never used before.  Again nearly a disaster but it has worked, but not in this picture I think.  Oh well.

    attachicon.gifFusilliers 7.jpg

One young officer who is not really sure what to do with a rifle and two musicians who are carrying them for someone else.

    attachicon.gifFusilliers 8.jpg

Here are the four Sergeants.  The one second from the right I tried to give his beard a grey wash.  Oh dear.  He will get his face repainted as will the others.

    attachicon.gifFusilliers 9.jpg

The final three.  There is not a good picture of the horse which I am still working on, and have forgotten to paint the brass on its harness.  Also trying to work out what would be the best colour for the hooves.

The colours are as accurate as possible although I think the trousers could be darker and I am sure none would past muster on a wargames forum.

    Thanks for looking,

Fantastc and thank you, they look superb. Not been following the forum much for a number of weeks, so this was an enjoyable catch up.

    Keep up the good work.

  6. Fantastic video and tour around your layout ,,, amazing,,, that's a huge space you have,,, and by the sounds of it a story line to every corner. When I see stuff

like this I often fear my two lines passing a rural station is going to be lacking enough interest. But congratulations to the both of you on a huge amount of work.

    Alan

    Hi Alan

    Thank you.

We are fortunate to have a large space, but even the largest space could be filled with rubbish, some might say it is.

But to the contrary, i have seen fabulous works of arts created in a couple of feet of space.

For me a layout is as much about the person making it, it adds something about them and their vision. I do not think the size or scale or construction matters, as long as the person has a passion and motivation to make it theirs.

Some of our friends on here leave me in awe, simply with their constructions of crates, deck chairs, landrovers, back scenes, station canopies, resprays..... The list is endless.

To me, nothing anyone takes an effort over, will ever be of a lesser value to me, than any other piece of work.

I look forward to seeing your layout ,.... people make life interesting, ...and what they create should be interesting to all, but those who are too self absorbed.

  9. I've not done any modelling this weekend, and won't be doing any for a bit, as I've got to sort out the consequences of this:

    attachicon.gif20140810_172547-sm.jpg

Nobody hurt, but my pride, and ultimately my wallet will suffer for a bit.

    There's always something...

    Al.

Hmm, security service have it in for you?

They seem to have left a calling card at the front of the car.

    MI5....
