I managed 11% in the first end of year Latin exam. This got me downgraded to a lower form where I could do Metalwork and Tech drawing instead, and I've never looked back.

Reminds me of my grammar school.  We  'thickies' didn't have more than a couple of years of Latin and no Greek... with no hope of Oxbridge, we might as well do computer studies or engineering or something else useless.

I hope they warn you against using it in a garage, our Range Rover had a huge warning label on the visor warning of using the cabin pre-heater in an enclosed space, and as you programmed it it also flashed the warning on the screen as well.

Will the car not climatise the cabin when plugged into the charger?

It seems to chose to use the petrol heater even then, unless you have less than about 1/4 of a tank. The other thing I have noticed is that when driving in hybrid mode It uses petrol for heating and electricity for motion, unless the low fuel light is on, then it choses to use the pertol engine for both motion and heating via the normal engine radiator as in conventional cars. Mind you here the temperature this week has been as low as -8C which would use a lot of battery to warm up a car,

  3. I have only stumbled accross this thread recently. I am humbled by the openness and decency shown here. My own life is charmed compared to many others. I consider myself lucky/blessed by comparison. Deep respect to all those who can share with us the sometimes horrifying things done to them. Unlike many threads on RMWeb, the tone of this one is so positive. Long may it continue to be so.

  4. I got my panels in May this year. By dividing at what we paid in bills by the amount bought from the net for the whole of 2022, I get an average price of about 60p per kilowatt hour. If I add the amount we have generated minus what I sold I get my actual consumption, I can see that if we had bought it all from the net. our electricity bill would have been about £3700 ( we have two hybrid cars) If I take the amount we have actually paid in bills, minus what I get refunded for charging my company car, and the amount I have got for selling the about 5Mwh we have produced, but did not use. I can see that even after deducting  the loan payments we are still about £800 in profit. So I am a very happy man.

  5. I am not normally taken in by conspiracies. I mean I know the world is flat, have you ever seen a bit of the world that is open framed?

As for the Apolo moon landing. That is so obviously fake. Everybody knows that the moon buggy had 13 spokes on its wheels not 14 as can been seen on the fake footage.

But I’m certain that some of the posters on this forum are not who they seem to be- I think they are actually modellers partners, posting under false names. Every time I’m about to do some actual modelling or looking at prices for the newest models, I get side-tracked by some thread that is obviously designed to cause maximum froth, I get involved every time even though I know that Andy will block the thread just as I’m about to finally write the definitive post that will end the debate once and for all.

I only have to open Templot, and there is another gauge war thread started.

SWMBO closes her laptop too quickly, and claims that she was only looking at knitting sites. But I’m not sure. She says that She was only looking at EM ‘Hats’ htps://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-em-hat and the P4-tog is a knitting stitch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HGblsGC_kk That made me suspicious, after all the Danish for train is ‘tog’. The evidence is mounting up. If I actually used the time I spend on RMweb modelling, Chard junction would have been finished ages ago. I think our better halves are sidetracking us on this site,

  6. I test drove a NIO ET7 a couple of days ago. I think the biggest impression it made on me was the top-quality build. I got back into my one year old Volvo V60 which felt cheap and nasty by comparison.  The interior design is gorgeous. I drove it about 20 miles on the open road and though a couple of villages, with a quick blast along the motorway. Whisper quiet at 85 mph, even though it waas running on Winter tyres that make more road noise than normal tyres.

The Tesla Model S feels like a Tupperware container in comparison. Even though it costs about 25% more than the fully equipped ET7.  Problem is that it is out of my tax bracket. But the ET5 isn’t. That arrives next summer!

Looks like the experience promised was bewilderment followed by hysterical laughter.

The most underwhelming announcement of the whole show, I bet the Hornby diehard fans don't know how to react.  An unfrocked Coronation.  To celebrate the Coronation.  Woo.

Nice to see the traditional Hornby "That'll do-itis" has returned with a vengeance.

To be fair it was not Hornby who built up the expectations generated by 14 pages in this thread. They just said an announcement at 12 and that is what we got.

Who would announce an early model now - knowing H's record on "gazumping"?

    Kev.

Remember DJM King Class, 14xx and 71? Hornby were accused of gazumping then. DJM was proclaimed as the saviour of modelling in 'OO'. Hornby at least got all their models made. With hindsight the DJM 14xx was not that well designed on the mechanical side of things. The DJM class71 was swings and roundabouts compared to Hornby's. As for the King... well we'll never know whether it would have been better that the Hornby version.

As far as I can see, it takes about the same amount of time for all manufacturers to produce models. So, if Hornby announce a model just after someone else has, and can get it in the shops a year before. they probably started work on it a year before as well.

I will concede that the Terrier against RAILS, and the many 66 liveries on an old moulding against Hattons class 66 stink of throttling competition. Not Hornby’s finest moment, As for the Titfield farce, there is no excuse for that.

I talk two languages, English and Bollucks!

Both Maths and Arithmetic's have an 'S' on the end as far as I am concerned.

Well that is the way I pronounce them.

I went to Denmark in 1974 involved in a project to build a kindergarten playground near Silkebourg.

I met some Danish lads on the train on the way there and they taught me my best ever opening line:-

    "jeg elsker dig"

    It almost worked once.

    'en øl'

    worked better

I live in Silkeborg. i used that line 33 years ago, and we are still married

    Surely it's Math?

Too many Americanisms for it to be anywhere else.

I'm not so sure. I remember doing mathematics at school not mathmatic. But I did do arithmetic,  and not arithamatics. So I'm  not sure what the abreviated version  should be. I might will not be remembering the language correctly, after all English has been only my second language for over 30 years and I am dyslexic. But I am a bilingual dyslexic

The cat's eye design originated in the UK in 1934 and is today used all over the world. The inventor of cat's eyes was Percy Shaw of Boothtown, Halifax, West Yorkshire, England.

The term "cat's eyes" is universally recognised in the UK to mean reflective road studs. They are temporarily removed when a road is resurfaced, and then replaced. Hence the warning sign.

     https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat's_eye_(road)

I really wish they were used in Denmark. The reason for not using them is because the snow scrapers remove then as well as the snow. We have poles on each side og the road about 3 feet high with yellow reflectors on the LHS and orange on the RHS. They are no way as clear an indication of whether oncoming traffic is on the right side of the road. They are known as ‘priests’ because the show the road. but are not on it themselves!

I wonder if his first decision will be to abandon TT120.

    We RMWebbers are fickle bunch!

When Peco announced their TT track it was hailed as the greatest no-brainer decision ever. A few hours later when some other companies announced plans to make some locomotives, the excitement reached fever pitch. When Hornby announced that not only were they also going to do TT, but that a lot if it was already in production and should be around in time for Christmas, they were straight away accused of ‘killing’ competitors with muttering of duplication.

Now as I understand ít, there are again production issues causing delays. And now the talk turns to they should never have spent money on this suddenly doubtful project.
