That 47 with the car spot light will have been 47574 https://www.flickr.com/photos/42213513@N05/16118202654
47574 had that 'Headlight' from 1981 to at least 1985
47574 Teignmouth 250681
47574 Man Vic XX81 ?
47574 Man Vic 211085
But do we have any clues about 47523 with the odd lamp on the drivers side. (Similar to the centrally fitted ones to some class 86/87)
47523 Diggle 120783
47523 was later fitted with a blanking plate over the lamp and a standard centrally mounted one.

Looking closely at the front, one of handrails above the tail lights is out of alignment (left hand on the photo). Only 50006 had this arrangement, and it also had a dark roof at this time, so your uid 50 is 'Neptune'.
A couple of closer pics

A cropped one

Were the loco handrail errors the same at both ends - all my pics seem to be of the same end ?

I actually think it is too clever by half for simple databases e.g. Record Collection, Model Railway stock etc. which is all I used them for
I did have Access in MS Office Pro 2000 but didn't see any point in transferring files to it
I always preferred Lotus Approach.
Some of my databases were ported from BBC micro to PC (first using using Rbase for DOS) then to Lotus Smartsuite version 3
I did the same from Wordwise or View & View Sheet. through DOS & Windows
Not sure there is much of the original data left in them!
My most recent Smartsuite was the last release of the "Millenium Edition" version
A recent Windows update has stopped Approach working and the usual re-installation tips & fixes haven't worked.
Keith
Keith.
Like you a long term (25+ years) user of Approach. - User friendly and intuitive. Access - user hostile (Why did MS have to redefine all the standard DBase terminology).
BTW As an aside my Approach still works even with this weeks updates. (I hope it stays that way)

An almost identical shot at Bristol But almost a year earlier.

You weren't on one of the Manchester area Round Robins were you ? We were !
( Manchester - Birmingham-Bristol- London-Manchester day trip at a very cheap price - mid week as well )
One working that I had never seen in many visits to South Devon.

47298 was resurrected and overhauled by DRS around 2002 before being scrapped in 2007. This photo may well have been taken around 1999 as there is a similar one, at a different location - Healey Mills, on www.Class47.co.uk http://www.class47.co.uk/c47_zoom_v3.php?img=0955010166000.
Edit: Yours is taken earlier so more likely 1999 - in yours 47298 still has the overhead warning sticker on the cab front

The LMS had a few as far as I know. They were used on black 5s to see what the locos used in coal ( I might be wrong ) but they removed the data boxes at the back and they were used as normal tenders in the 60s.
I found the plans in a modelling mag so I cut a Hornby tender up.
Hi Mark
A photo (mine) of the same loco at Man Vicc c1963
The exact date is not recorded BUT as both signal boxes appear complete it must be c1963.?

That's a pretty feeble 'pea souper'!
Glasgow used to get some crackers in the early 1950s. We moved out of Glasgow in 1954, mainly because my young sister had spent 18 months of her first three years ill with bronchitis. I remember on one occasion travelling several miles on a Glasgow Corporation bus with the conductor walking in front of the bus. He was close enough that he could signal to the driver, and the driver could see him, but by walking in front he doubled the distance the driver knew was clear in front of the bus. Even then, we bumped (gently) someone who stepped off a kerb.
When I wer but a lad I can remember Manchester Corporation trolley buses were guided by small Fordson vans in the 'pea supers'. The vans had light bulbs all round the back (must have been packed with batteries) to keep the trolley buses under the wires.
(Never seen a picture of these vans -but would love to see one)

I nearly did, the saloon is probably the Newton Heath one as the window arrangement matches. Differs from the Bachmann which is the more common arrangement.
Bob,
Probably the Manchester Area Saloon usually kept in the bays at Victoria or Red Bank - never saw it at Newton Heath
Again as part of an empty parcels train for Red Bank

There was the use of 37's paired up on the Cambrian during the summer in the 80's, even pairs of Tinsley's freight machines turned up.
Found this on the class 37 photo thread.
It would be nice if you credited the original poster ?

If you're not careful Dave, you'll open up the floodgates for all sorts of foreigners to visit you with strange motive power!
Mike.
Be afraid Dave - he might bring his vac !

This lovely machine arrived by post today as a complete surprise and has given me the opportunity to see the new crimson lake 'in the flesh'. I haven't any brass coaches in to compare but it looks like Hornby got it right. Thank goodness they did not ruin its depth with a chalky white varnish; The sheen looks just right on a model and I dare say both could considerably improve the appearance of Hornby's coaches.
Seen undergoing clearance tests in Carrog yard in preparation for the coming Santa Specials....
A Collett support coach was borrowed from the SVR ...
I took this 55 years ago in another goods yard nearer my birthplace....

Well It's all over now (says he foolishly) my stint as expoEM Autumn/North exhibition manager (loud cheers from the crowd)
I would like to thank all those who contributed to expoEM North/Autumn this year.
By that I mean the traders, layout owners, line societies, demonstrators, stewards and of course those who paid to see what was (NOT my words) 'Best selection of layouts I have seen at ANY exhibition I've been to. Even said by *4 members as well !'
The winners of the awards were:-
Best Layout Portchullin Mark Tatlow
Malcolm Crawley Cup GWR Metro Tank Steve Lee
Eileens Emporium Award Black Lion Hotel Geoff Kent
There were quite a number of RM web members exhibiting/demonstrating and visiting but only one visitor managed to say hello - and I alredy knew him I am quite amenable to a good natter.
Once again thank you

Good journey back. Managed to break the 3 hour barrier (just). Great show. Really enjoyed it.
Well done to Derek for putting on another superb expo. You can take a well earned rest. Step forward Mr Jones!
As promised, some more pictures. Apologies for missing some layout out.
The presentation of Tackeroo was something that made a lot of people smile. Very clever.
3 hours to ZUMERZET It took me 1.1/2 hours to 26 miles round the M60/M62 after we cleared up by 6-30 (a record for clean up time for expoEM North/Autumn)
I might add that the Scousers (Chris Hewitt and Mike Delamar) kept their un-enviable record of being the LAST to clear the hall!

Just got home - go to the M60 - closed at 10pm long diversion home via Stockport.
However all setup apart from 1 Layout coming tomorrow and a couple of traders.
I must really thank the exhibitors who braved the M6 today and the cross - Cheshire tour that they had to make after being diverted off the motor way. 7+ hours traveling is no fun.
See you all tomorrow

Setting off shortly to do the basic marking out (during the school lunchtime) then final marking out after the school finishes
A bit disjointed -but hey - ho here we go.
Long day ahead.

Only
onetwo word(s) fit - absolutely gobsmacked -
Is there a bring and buy at the show this year?

But of course there is. Wouldn't be the same without it. !

This is the provisional timetable for both days, subject to a timing check.
The timetable is designed to meet trains from Manchester in the morning, shifting to meet trains to Manchester in the afternoon on both days.
Please note the service will be operated by a real bus, my Manchester MCW bodied Leyland PD2 3706 (3706 VM), the Routemaster is currently off the road.
Just one week to go !
To add to Peters post (for those not local) this is the bus to look for.
