  1. that's not a bad idea a couple of castors on one side/end and flip it up to roll away that's the reason i'm here as i'd never thought of that!
  2. as it's only really a play thing for my 6 year old until we get round to a real layout, the only thing that will be fixed is the track so there should not be too much damage to anything hopefully loving the idea of the foam as i have zero woodwork skills thanks for the help
  3. after some advice on the best way to build a base for a layout that is 1200mm by 1800mm (Hornby trackmat) so that i don't have to keep building and taking trainset up off the floor. needs to be as light as possible so easy to pick up and move for cleaning/storage and quick deployment no need for legs as it will sit on the floor again thanks in advance for help after the train set is sorted i will be trying a yard based layout using the skills gained from that.
  4. funny, as she wants the kitchen diner decorated, but she knows my destroy it yourself skills so would be worried if i started with the wood work! results to follow, watch this space
  5. when i was working down there in February the yard had large wooden gates and all the health and safety signs up and looked like a construction site. no idea what they are doing but meant i could not drive down the cess how i wanted and i had to go round to Burcott road and go through the level crossing there instead. would love to know what they are doing
  6. Lyndhurst Road in the New Forest is similar, it changed it's name to Ashurst (New Forest) in 1997
  7. apart from the Welsh to English, can anyone think of stations that are not spelt the same as the town they serve? start you off with Whittlesea
  8. what are the 2 black stars on the tanks ? when did they stop using this marking? thanks
  9. don't think the wife would let me get away with that!
  10. i only wish i had the time, space and skill to build a layout like this this is my favourite period and area and what stock i have has been gathered with a layout like this in mind it has never got past the toy trian loop yet and with jobs around the house to do can't see the wife letting me spend time doing it when there is more important Destroy it yourself to be done! love this thread
  11. after much more digging it appears that my Hornby Shell tanks in all yellow are not even a real livery and they should be grey or black. (same goes for the red Texaco ones ?) could i get away with modelers licence and just add haz mat symbols and get away with it?? My railway, my rules etc... Edit for spelling.
  12. i'm rail blue into sector era, nothing privatised, but thanks for the help anyway in case i change my mind! good for the detail though most helpful A great vantage point that supermarket
  13. just want something that looks right, not too bothered about historical accuracy, it's not a museam piece, just tarting up old train set kit as a practice cheers for all the help
  14. a good start, thanks any idea on number ranges? i have 2 grey tanks both with 500 on, would it be safe to renumber one of them 499 or 501? i also have several of the Hornby yellow tanks with no numbers, what should i number them? the yellow is not a real livery?
  15. i'm after pictures/info on Shell oil tanks, TTAs to be more precise. i have several Horby versions in different liveries but want to know more about when the liveries changed and what information panels etc i need to add? thinking that the FOX transfers are probably the best bet, but have no good picture of what goes where and think they were never really all yellow, but I don't mind about that too much. all help greatfully received Edit for spelling.
  16. Peterborough. the sidings are all over grown and you would struggle to see them unless you knew they were there.
