One can contact CG purely for advice but changing your registered address to theirs is another matter.

The registered address for my business is my accountants address, but the business operates independently from it's own address

  2. To be fair when Dave posted the payment schedule for the King when it was first announced he said the deposit was non-refundable as it was to cover the cost of the work he had done so far, so we went into it with our eyes open. Having said that, and reading what has been posted, can we still claim if we paid by credit card?

  3. That literally makes no sense! You said most Christmas shopping was done in October, which just isn’t true. At all. and if it’s not retail what is it? You can order online from just about anywhere until a week before Christmas, often days.

That’s not to say that some people don’t start to consider Christmas and maybe scale back purchases, but IMO that effect is nowhere near as large as you’re making out as fact!

I can't see the point of sitting on the fence and hoping enough other people will risk their money so that you can pay an extra 20% for the same item if and when it is produced.

I've never considered myself well off but I suppose I am lucky that I have paid off my mortgage and all my children are now in their 30s and reasonable well paid so I don't have to worry if I want to spend money on my railway. I ordered a Nelevator and paid the deposit as soon as it was announced. Mine was one of the first ones and was delivered and set up by Allan. That wasn't crowd funded although I can't see much difference in paying 50% when ordered and 50% on delviery. I'm very happy with it especially as two years later it cost twice as much.

  4. Hi everyone,

Crowdfunding pre-orders have been open around a month on this project and at present we are at the following figures to share with you.

Original Crowdfunder sign ups / 'expressions of interest' = 706

Current Crowdfunder deposits paid                                  = 264

Now on paper, as you read this, it seems a problem. But what needs to be remembered is that the crowdfunding was open many many months to get to the 706 figure, as information takes time to 'propagate' through the press, internet, clubs etc and reach the consciousness of the modeller who still might want a King but didn't, express, and those that did but as yet dont realise the deposit payments are now open. so please spread the word if your able.

Things are progressing though , and i have paid a deposit to China against the tooling, and am still trying to get a 3D company to print the models for display at upcoming shows. I'm surprised at the amount of professional companies that don't want the business and say its too difficult. so the search continues.

More updates when i have them

    cheers

    Dave

Are those figures the number of individuals who have paid deposits or the number of models? I've paid the deposit for two so do I count as one or two of those figures?

  5. To end this pointless bickering I have removed access to the topic for two parties.

Thank goodness for that. It must have been bad enough for Dave when we were all picking holes in the CAD drawings without all the irrelevant c**p that has been going on on here

  6. Followin on from my last post, the reason that the washout plugs are "interlaced" for want of a better description is that when you are doing a washout the water will not be shot out the other side and instead clean not only the top of the inner firebox, but the space between the two fireboxes. Having washed out a few Western engines in my time I can tell you it is a cold and potentially wet job at any time other than high summer! finally the King boilers were not replaced as far as I know, so that the position of the washout plugs would be the same for their entire working lives.

    Regards,

    Alex

Ok, I can see the reasoning and I've just found a picture of KEII from the other side and agree they are not symmetrical. They are symmetrical on the CADS though; 4 in front on the later ones and three in front on the earlier ones, so that will need to be looked at

  7. Hi everyone,

The smokebox is being altered as you read this, and i'm getting the handrail knobs reduced to something more akin to the Farish Castle in size.

As for power transfer, it will not be wired, but Metal type wipers from loco to tender. This is used by others in UK design and seem to be no trouble.

    Here's today's big smokebox door bulge cad/cams.

Just one thing. The modified smokebox door is on an older version of the CAD.  The washout plugs have reverted to three in front and four behind the band on the firebox

  8. OK, I've had a look in my J H Russell and the safety valve bonnet is slightly higher than the cab roof on the drawing but it looks as though the capuchon on the chimney is the same height as the bonnet..

Has anyone mentioned that on the top row of washout plugs on real thing there are 4 in front of the boiler band on the firebox and three behind but on the model they are the other way round?

I'm not sure I quite understand the talk of the curve towards the tender. Do you mean where the roof gets narrower and curves in starting exactly in line with the handrail behind the rear cab window? If so the lower edge of the roof after it curves back is pretty well in line with the rear of the firebox on Colonel Templar's drawing while it is a bit higher on the cad so I would tend to agree.

Are the front cab windows square? Templar's drawing shows them virtually square which is correct if you look at pictures of the real thing, while Swindon drawings showed them rectangular.

  9. After looking a couple of times in the past I just discovered the King details at the bottom of the page !! Thought it was all OO and O down there.

Hope it is not too late to tick the box and happy to pay the deposit any time.

Have ordered 6023 as I had a rather nice double page photo published in popular railway magazine a few years ago and it fits into my preserved mainline theme. Whether it can convert to 2FS I'll have to wait and see, but I've a regular n mainline regardless.

Might have another later but will have to wait and see.

    Hi everyone,

I was expecting to give an update the middle of next week, but news has just come in that China have told me the cad/cam will be with us for mid May, and all being well, it can go to tooling within 14 days of that date, as a tooling slot is available for the king.

However, this, with experience, gives us 2 things to think about......

    1) it is very rare for a cad/cam to be fault free and not need alterations and

    2) please be aware that monies will be requested to start tooling from crowdfunders around that period or Just after.

Recently I’ve concentrated on the front bogie and have worked out a ‘gap filler’ (I call it this because every RTR model king to date has an incorrect gap where you can see daylight under the frames above the bogie.

I have designed a separate screw in piece of plastic for those with higher radius curves where this gap can be totally eliminated. This plastic will need customer fitting as the model will be radius 2 compatible straight from the box.

    More in a few weeks.

    Cheers

    Dave

It's nice to know things are still progressing even if it is taking longer than you thought. Let's hope the cad/cam is ok

  10. I ordered a King when it was first announced in March. I hadn't received a confirmation so I asked if there was any way of checking my original order because I couldn't remember which one I'd ordered. I sent the message on 11th June and later that day Dave replied from the nthusiast@hotmail.co.uk address with details or my original order and the additional one that I added later.

    Dave

  11. Sorry, but I won't be persuaded on this.

I don't have a particular problem with blue steam locos. A4s are good although I prefer Great Eastern shade. And blue is also fine on diesels and electrics, both UK and elsewhere.

It just does not suit a King and I suspect that it would look wrong on any taper-boilered loco. Worldwide, not too many railways opted for blue for steam locos.

I totally agree that Kings don't look good in blue, as I said on Dave's earlier thread when he was assessing interest in an N gauge King. A4s and the old Caledonian locos are probably the only engines that I like in blue.
