  1. Just begun to get seriously to grips with my new ECoS 50200 and really looking forward to trying the new version TouchCab when it is released.

Thunderous silence still . . . no news about an update to TouchCab that I can see.

    Anyone know what is happening?

The old version is still on the AppStore. Is it worth getting?

  2. In this DCC/Sound age it is surprising that none of the various well known sound guru's have come up with an idea for something like this. Presumably such sounds could be relatively easily loaded to something like a standard Zimo/Loksound type sound chip, with the sounds controlled via 'F' keys, or linked in some way to turnout switches and signal switches.

Levers being puolled over and bell codes are the most audible signal box sounds and as noted above, they were certainly quite audible if the box windows were open.

    Paul Chetter ??

That's definitely the sort of thing I had in mind!

  3. The station at Reading is something of an improvement in many ways, but the transfer bridge is a cold draughty hole in the winter and, as has already been remarked, the escalators are poorly protected from the weather as are some areas of the platforms.

One of the irritating aspects of the new station in my view is the poor sound quality of the PA announcements, which also frequently clash at adjacent platforms, making them totally inaudible and therefore useless.

Whoever designed the waiting room at the West end of platform 7 with powered doors (which seem to stick open with monotonous regularity) arranged on the corner adjacent to each other so that freezing cold air pours into the area when both doors are open simultaneously should be made to stand there on a cold winter's day to understand the error they made with that piece of the design.

  4. Ely station can be very unwelcoming, when there's a north wind blowing.

I've found the solution to the Goring OHLE problem, by the way - why not use the Atmospheric system?! All the gubbins is at track level, so the residents can't be offended. Nice & quiet, too. What could possibly go wrong?

What could possibly go wrong? . . . plenty of "rats" around that area to chew things up!

  5. The sad thing is my impression is that their workforce on the whole seem to be both capable and committed and I feel they deserve better management than they currently have.

Never was a truer word spoken.

I ran my own business successfully for over twenty years and in most of the companies that I worked with there were skilled, dedicated, hardworking staff, whereas in quite a few of the companies the "management" could not manage a drinking session in a brewery and relied heavily on the skill and experience of the staff to get them out of the brown stuff on a regular basis.

To be fair, there were some good managers in some of the companies and this was reflected in the commercial success of those companies and a happy working environment.

  6. It's a phrase that, because it appears to be uttered so often now (and automatically) by politicians, CEOs of major companies and Government quangos, I suspect most people now naturally react by thinking;

"Yeah.  Right.  Pull the other one."

Include me in the "most people" group! That expression makes me cringe in the same way as that Americanism "Have a nice day!" that seems to be uttered at every opportunity with absolutely no sincerity.

  7. Great little shop. Conveniently placed between home and work for me although I don't go in as often as I'd like. Well worth a visit for anyone who has never been before.

Sold some unwanted items to them a little while ago. Excellent to deal with, very fair price offered and prompt payment.

Never been in the shop but have looked over their excellent stand at several exhibitions.

  8. Hi John

                 To use F18 first set the INDEX CV's -  CV31 = 16  CV32 = 3  THEN set  CV380 = 8  -  reset both INDEX CV's back to = 0

The other 3 CV's that control the speed and movements remain the same as in my first post - their values adjusted to suit if necessary.

    Ken

    Many thanks!

  9. Hi John

The easiest way is for you to nominate the spare/unsued F key you wish to use it on.  It then only requires one Indexed CV change to enable your selected F key, the other CV's (as above), remaining the same.

    Ken

Thanks . . . but how do you nominate the F-key, please?

    John

  10. Firstly you have to enable the coupling function on F15 - set INDEX CV's   CV31=16  CV32=3  then set CV332 = 8  don't forget to reset both INDEX CV's to 0 before the next step, this is important !

    Hi Ken,

Very interesting, would love to try this!

I understand the instructions, but would prefer to use something other than F15. Can you give an example of how to set up for other Functions, please?

    John

  11. Probably, can't find any software to make one without resorting to hand drawn which is a bit rubbish. I have a mac and it's proving difficult to do properly!

iDraw is not bad if you don't want to get into Illustrator.
