Hi Nestor,
I don't think I had a thread on RMweb for Singleton, but did work up the ideas on the Templot Forum - you can find that thread at:
https://85a.uk/templot/archive/topics/topic_1010.php?zoom_highlight=Singleton
Cheers
Richard
ps I've been having trouble with my browser being hijacked off to some very non-railway related websites - I understand that the administrators are aware of the problem - trying Chrome instead of Firefox to see if that gets round the hackers!

Hi Nestor,
Just seen your idea based on Singleton - I have actually started in 4mm/EM gauge, though whether it will ever get finished is a moot point!
Here's a few photos of what I have done so far - all the pointwork is built and there's a few view of the templot printouts laid out in 'baseboard size' arrangements, so I need to get on with some wood work!.
I am currently working up some drawings for the platform buildings and hoping I can convert these into cutting files for a sihouette Curio cutter I have 'invested' in...
best wishes

Hi,
If you contact SE Finecast they will email you a pdf of the instructions free of charge - they have sent me several SR kit instructions, both for original and revised kits.
Hope that helps
Best wishes for 2023

Oo-er, I wonder if they do those windpumps in 7mm scale? (or if there's a drawing to build one to.....)

Hi,
I hope I can remember all this advice that is being shared - I bought myself a Curio Cutter almost 2 years ago and haven't unpacked it yet!
I have been trying to teach myself Inkscape and am using the exercise to develop a set of drawings for the platform buildings at Singleton, West Sussex, for my embryonic layout, to then translate across to the cutter.
I have copies of the original drawings from The Network Rail Archive, and whilst they show the style of building, they don't represent what was actually built!
Best wishes

Hi Eric,
Thanks for telling me about your thread - for the benefit of other readers, it transpires that we were also in New Zealand in November/December 2019 - our (my!) railway activities were fairly limited this time, but I manage to call in at the Bay of Islands railway at Kawakawa - the line runs down the middle of the main street which also happens to form part of State Highway 1 (main North - South road on North Island) - remincent of Weymouth Harbour Tramway or the Ffestiniog - Welsh Highland link in Porthmadog.
Well worth a visit when we are all able to travel again
Stay safe

Hi Martin,
I'll check up on mine (it's sitting on the side in utility room, quietly waiting for it's next task!)
I'll draw up a circuit diagram for you.
Best wishes, stay safe

Lovely stuff, Jesse,
Thanks for posting.
However, please paint those coach roofs grey/black.
And now for something completely different!
My ignorance of this particular loco was absolute. It's a London Brighton & South Coast Railway 'Dieppe' Class 2-2-2 (has such a thing ever appeared before on RMweb?), built in EM Gauge.
It was lined (though not painted) by Geoff Haynes, and I've taken pictures of it for his portfolio.
I thought I'd share them on here.........
Regards,
Tony.
Hi Tony,
Sorry, not a first...
Burgundy wrote an extensive thread (Mr Craven's engines - LBSCR 1870s) when he built his loco from the same kit, and I used his experience when building this one for a gentleman who lives in Midhurst and has a layout of the same name based pre 1880 (ie before the new station built for the Chichester to Midhurst line) - see The LBSCR Modellers' Digest no. 6, 7 and 10
Burgundy's model is beautifully finished in Stroudley's Improved Engine Green, however "Chichester" is trying to capture J C Craven's livery - although I put the base coat on, my painting skills are far behind Mr Haynes'.
The loco is a bit of a cheat, as 172 "Chichester" was not a Dieppe class loco, but the model is intended to capture the essence of that loco without having to scratch build something.
The challenge with this type of loco in 4mm scale is getting enough adhesion so that it can haul itself, and a train, along!
Best wishes
Richard

Hi,
I promised myself I wasn't going to buy a machine until I had some cutting files ready, but..... seeing the way the £ is moving against other currencies and as Silhouette machines are made in the US, I decided they weren't going to get any cheaper so have bought a Curio....
I'll let you know how I get on....

I would opt for the curio these days, the Cameo tends not to cut too well in the centre.
Any thoughts as to the 8.5" x 6" Curio cutting mat is too restrictive compared to the 12" x 12" on the cameo? - I'm mainly working in 4mm scale, but might occasionally want to tackle a 7mm wagon or 4 wheel coach...

search for 'Cricut' (not 'Circut' - but that'll still find some)
Whoops, Freudian slip!
Thanks

You could also look at the Cricut machines (~£240), available at Hobbycraft (& other places?).
Hmm....
Looking at the promotional video, the Circut machines look a bit more sophisticated, than the silhouette, (facility to rotate the cutter/embossing tools), and possibly slightly more robust?
Any different software requirements with the Circut?
Has anyone been able to do a direct comparison between the two, particularly as there isn't a great disparity in price?
Cheers

Hi,
Any thoughts as to which is the "best" machine to buy for model purposes and what the current "best buy" is?
I might just order one before the 28th March..... just in case.....

Hi,
Just been looking on the internet and find the Curio at £210 and the Cameo 3 at £318 - any thoughts as to whether the Cameo is "worth" the extra £118? - does it have more features or is more amenable to our sort of uses?
cheers

Hi,
I'm working on a layout based closely on Singleton, West Sussex (ex LBSCR) which will be set as SR circa 1930.
I may well use the originally proposed name for the station, West Dean, to account for a few historical inaccuracy - like retaining the turntable and running larger locos than were permitted!
There is a thread on Templot at: http://85a.co.uk/forum/view_topic.php?id=1010&forum_id=12
and the current "state of play" is in an article in the latest copy of The Brighton Circle's Modeller Digest (8) which can be accessed at: http://www.lbscr.org/Models/Digest/index.html
best wishes

Aha!

There's a list of coach sets here - http://www.semgonline.com/coach/sets.html. It's an Excel spreadsheet so you'll need the Excel viewer if you don't already have Excel on your PC. The download link is towards the bottom of the page.
Many thanks Robert & Ian J
- that is, indeed, an excellent spreadsheet, which I downloaded many years ago - what I was looking for was a list of the numbers carried by the Hornby models, if there was such a thing - if not I probably have almost enough information now to generate one!

R4298A-G were, in order, 7665, 7666, 7671, 7672, 7224, 7667, so three from 469, two from 470. There seems not have been a R4298F. Odd. 7224 was a loose vehicle until 1959 - you could use that as a substitute for one of the missing ones on the basis that the regular vehicle was in shops for exceptional work.
And unless your eyesight is exceptional, in normal running Maunsell coach numbers take some reading!
I have no doubt you have seen in Gould the pic of an Atlantic with 469, including two Pullmans, but am unable to help with identities
Thanks Ian,
That sums up where I had got to on the Firsts, I just wondered if the missing "F" might be one of set 470!
I must have a look to see if any of the high window variants are suitable for central section, but have a feeling that what I need aren't available in SR olive.....

many thanks - just had a search on www.semgonline.com but couldn't find the list - can you be more specific where to find it?

Hi
Apologies for coming to this thread so late (and if you've already covered these questions!).....
Is there a comprehensive list of running numbers against Hornby catalogue numbers?
I am particularly interested in central section allocated coaches in SR Olive livery and have enough coaches to make up set 470, except that 2 of the 1st (R4298) don't have the right number - does anyone if there was ever a variant carrying No. 7673 or 7674 - or is it a matter of renumbering one?
Also....
I understand that both sets 469 and 470 were often run with one or two pullmans - does anyone know which particular vehicles were used?
Perhaps another thread, but whilst on Pullmans.... can anyone name the vehicles used on any of the Pullman Race specials for Goodwood pre WW2?
cheers

If it's the same as the Drayton/Dieppe kit, the springs are made up from 3 layers of etch....
these are the ones for the tender.... (and the brake etches)

Some sketches of The Brighton
in Pre-Grouping - Modelling & Prototype
Posted
Hi,
For anyone who has interest in modelling the LBSCR there is an excellent resource on the LBSCR org website at:
https://www.lbscr.org/Models/Digest/index.html
I did a write up on planning Singleton in edition number 8.
For members of the Brighton Circle there is a regular publication addressing various aspects of Brighton prototype matters - with a bit of luck, there will be an article on both the platform buildings and the signal boxes from me at some time in the future.
Cheers
Richard
