I'm a traditional model railroad enthusiastic. Having caught the railroad virus at an early age, I enjoyed my first carpet train set and later my first lay-out up in the attack very much. But as happened with many of us I kind of lost interest as I grew up. Girls, the pub (yeah who didn’t!) and later family and kids demanded most of my attention. But as you know it’s a persistent virus and recently it’s fighting its way back. Being Dutch, my interest of course goes out to the Dutch railways, especially to the period of the late fifties, early sixties. Not just around the time of my birth, but also a period where life was much more relaxed (at least to my memory). So I’m in the process of figuring out what I’m going to do. Planning a lay-out, finding scenery ideas, catching up in technologies, etc. are the things that keep me busy at the moment In this process the internet is a tremendous source of information and I really enjoyed reading the many contributions on the RMweb. I have a deep admiration for the level of skill which is shown here. I’m only hoping that one day my lay-out will also show some of the realism I found in your pictures. It will be some time before I can really start building, as our current house is rather small and the kids haven’t left the nest yet. But until then I’ll continue reading the topics on this web that helps me sculpting my ideas. I wish you all good modelling in 2012. Joop.
