  2. Thanks, Peter. At the moment we are busy on the buildings at the station end of the layout and haven't had a running session for a while. Next time we do and have a change of stock in the station I'll take a few more pics. Howard

  4. Unfortunately, all the diecast models of both buses and lorries produced by firms such as Corgi are all to 1:50 scale. It would be nice if Oxford were to produce some of their 1:76 and 1:148 commercial vehicles in 1:43. HSB
  5. Hi Jim, I have a modest NZR-based layout which has now existed for around 20 years with occasional reworkings. It is set on Stewart Island using mainly stock built from NZ kits but with freelanced locos reworked from H0 models. Howard
  6. It actually goes back about 40 years when we were both early members of South Devon MRS. As there was already another member called Brian and Mr Harrap happened at that time to drive a works van with "Hotpoint" on the side he got dubbed "Brian Hotpoint". (He'll probably cross me off his Christmas card list after telling you this!) HSB
  7. Thanks for your comments. We intend to take some more pics as we progress. Most of the stock is owned by Rod, the exceptions being the two LIMA coaches which I reworked. Most of the goods stock was built from Slaters or Parkside Dundas kits while the Jinty is a Bachmann brass model painted by Tower Models.

  10. Hi Martyn, The layout is in a 30' by 12' shed with the station down one side and the fiddleyard down 20' of the other side, basically forming a J shape. It has taken two of us about 3 years so far and we still have a lot of work to do on it. We haven't taken many pictures up to now but will post some more in the near future now I have got around 75% of the back-scene done. Cheers, Howard
  11. Hi All, I thought fellow 0 gaugers might like to see some pictures of Ramchester I took earlier today. The layout represents a fictitious ex-LNWR branch on the Cumberland (as it was then) coast. Still a long way to go with cardboard mock-ups of several of the buildings but Rod and I are quite pleased with our progress so far. Cheers, HSB

    PECO Points

    We have used PECO point-motors with accessory switches (to switch the frogs) and as these contain over-centre springs we could, in retrospect, have removed those on the points. On my current H0 layout I used Tortoises and cut away the spring fixtures from the points. Unfortunately this left a big hole in the sleepering to fill in but this would not be necessary with the 0 versions. Thanks for the comments, HSB

    PECO Points

    PECO points can be cosmetically improved as we have done on Ramchester but it took a lot of time and effort. I doubt if it would have taken any longer to use C&L parts. The ends of the check-rails are bent back at a rather acute angle which can be reduced with a pair of pliars quite easily but getting rid of that ridiculous 'V' shaped sleeper and adding lengths of PECO point sleeper and chairs took rather more work! You can see the results below. HSB

    I'm afraid the answer is no! They just do the 6' radius left and right, a Y, a double slip and the recently introduced curved points. HSB

    PECO Points

    The main problem with PECO is that they are not to Finescale standards but "Universal" to take both coarse and finescale wheels. This does mean that finescale wheels tend to drop into the gap in the frogs although they will run through okay but rather noisily!
  18. Hi Brian, Actually, I heard a fellow ex-member of South Devon MRS (who will remain nameless but he lives in East Ogwell!) refer to you as "Hotpoint" just a few weeks ago. I'm afraid some things have a life of their own. By the way, the wagon-lift looks excellent although I wasn't sure about the engine shed until I saw it in the flesh. All up to your usual standard.   20. One of the first Railway Modellers I bought was the Peter Denny special around 1964 so Buckingham was one of my early inspirations along with Frank Dyer's Borchester. My third would have to be the Gorre and Daphetid.
