  1. My mate across the road has 2 of them (in green) They make crew buses look easy and cheap to restore.

    Merf.

Do you have any pics of them? I have always wanted a Leyland national or an AEC merlin or swift...but as you say, not cheap and beyond me, the crewbuses are keeping me out of trouble ....for the moment!

  2. No idea of use, but the occasional vehicle was bought in factory colours, or long time hired. A bit more common in later days when mainly white vans were bought just before privatisation. Well spotted, something different.

    Merf.

A super pic, and bonus with a dodge commando re railing vehicle behind it!

  3. There is a classified in the back of 'Classic Truck' magazine for a Dodge Commando with what appears to be a BR crewbus body.

    Jon

Is that a red / maroon, one? missed that issue, but there was one for sale in classic and vintage commercial a while back.

  4.  Andy,

the large lettering "EMERGENCY RAIL RESCUE", was only applied to those BRUFFs in EWS service, all the other BRUFFS had varients of BR lettering or other "localised" lettering.

The only problem with the "Southern" BRUFFS, they used Lukas lifting equipment, which used a single control pipe, whereas the rest of the country used twin pipe MFD lifting equipment.

The one shown is a Lukas varient. Other than that it looks to be remarkibly original,

    Cheers

    Ringo

Thank you - I didnt know about the differences in control gear, typical of the southern to want something different!

And I forgot there was bruffs and the like not owned by EWS,  the one in that picture doesnt look too bad, depending of course when the pic was taken!

In this months Classic and Vintage Commercial, there is an ex BR Dodge Commando crewbus for sale, been convereted into a hippy home "needs tidying and a sympathetic new owner" hmmmm.......

The reg might be GGO 8 or 5 or 6  then 93X

  5. My 1st thought that the sd bus, and the one on the left were preserved Blackpool buses. However the white one on the right - J411NCP - I googled, and came up with Wealden PSV Sales, and another Flicker pic, with the tail end of the BRUFF on it! Does this help at all? Maybe this dealer could tell you where it is?

One for ringo to investigate, then buy and restore?

  6.  Also have a look here, in google maps, look around the back of Etches Park shed, and zoom right in, there appears to be a Coles crane and a ex BR van!, This cant be that old an image...

Following business at etches park by a friend today , sadly these two are no longer there. The area where they sat is being built on, so who knows what happened, if anybody knows would be interesting!

  7. Nice pics of the TK and nice models too, just changing the subject slightly in this pic of BR Escort van at Spalding , was this model called a Combi? , all the foremen at a firm I worked for had 1.3 petrol versions of this van and really rated them.

The escort was the combi, much rarer compared to the standard escort van, it was an estate car without windows, although the ones we had at Reading Depot had rear seat conversions, but were very uncomfortable in the back.

  8. Andy,

Its definatley not complete, theres an awful lot missing, the only complete but seized bits are the rail wheels, and the engine is there, the back body isnt too bad I suppose though......would cost stupid money to put right, that is IF you could get the non standard parts for it.

    Cheers

    R

I see,  problem will be the corrosion,  an new cab would be tricky as they would have been coachbuot on a standard cab, and the missing bits will be hard to locate  - I thought the one at Eastleigh had long since gone for scrap....

  9. Earlier in this tread, ther is some more of the BRUFF at Eastleigh, I took some detailed shots of it (with Permission, especially as it had some of our lowliner wheels in the back!), Its well Rogered......well beyound economic repair, for a start, the roof in the cab has completely disintigrated from corrosion.

The only good thing is that it still has all of its rail equipment, albeit by now very seized.

    Cheers

    Ringo

which makes it a good restioration project as its complete  !   Can you post any pics of it - would be good to see them,  dont forget to blur out any censored parts!

  10. Just had a look through some of my old photos & found a few yellow trucks & vans lurking in the background, so I though it might be worthwhile to see if I could crop them:

Nothing special, & the quality's not brilliant, but hopefully of some interest.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

Thanks for posting those, pictures of these lorries with network southeast branding seem hard to find, despite them being all around me when I worked on the railway in 1988!

I like the dodge, complete with extra stickers and roof beacon, some early "customising " taking place!

That's also the first picture I have seen of a terrier with NSE branding too, just goes to show how long ago it all was!

    Andy

  11. Ringo, I understand, the EWS one doesn't interest me at all. but finding anything now in BR colours is hard - my yellow one was just luck, and the fact a collector had bought it from ews and just stotred it for a couple of years, and the fact it was dumped at bescott for many years as well, how the hell it survived almost in one piece is remarkable.

As we have discussed , there are some bruffs around , but are in a very poor condition! Any of them would be a full scale restoration, and that's hard given the size of the damn thing! But would be great when done, a real part of railway history. In fact I am surprised there isn't one in the national collection,  as they are unique almost!    Talking of neighbours, I did take mine to my girlfriends house, it blocked the light out for two houses, they were not that impressed!

I always keep looking though, you never know what can pop up, like the D reg one I found, although that's in good condition, in fact its superb, its for spares really as I only wanted it as it had the correct cooker and water heater, and some good cab internals !   Its also very depot like, starting it from cold most of the yard vanishes under a thick white smoke!

  12. Found this on Fire Engine Photos website, A Bruff, A dennis Appliance and a Sherpa Van,,,,,,,loveley

    attachicon.gifBruff Sherpa.jpg

    Copyright to that web site

    R

    Hi ringo,

I like that - I reckon the bruff is the one from hornsey, they had a habit of putting orange beacons on them, the Sherpa  is similar to one the Chiltern clean teams had, I think F134 SBL - but not certain, would have been NSE  branded.

One for you here, for sale on evilbay, but the clock is ticking:
