In the first instance remove the body and look into the bogie tower access windows on the side of the chassis and see if any of the worm cover cap clips have popped loose.

If any are not clipped down they can easily be clipped back in place with a small flathead screwdriver.

Feel free to contact us via email if you need further guidance.

    Regards

    Cav

    Hi Cav,

    Thanks for the quick response.

Yes both covers had come loose, re-attached and now running smoothly again. ☺️

An example of the excellent build quality and robustness of these fantastic models.

    Regards

    Scott.

  2. Like a complete tool ive just accidently knocked mine off the layout and now isn't running properly like a cardon shaft maybe has dislodged.

Any guides on getting access to the bogie towers?

Body detail stood up well to the excursion just one aerial gone missing in the carpet.

  3. In the video Dave says they are doing a full range of masts seen on the network, the MK3 mast that he showed had 2 types of registration arms, one looks like the new style GWML registration arm and the other looks like the type fitted to masts when the WCML was upgraded in the 2000's.

Hopefully they are doing some headspans as well.

I used a Zimo Plux 22 on my SLW class 24 but there was a problem. Because they use a special Zimo sound decoder which has the index pin space replaced by an extra live pin, the cab lights on one end would not work. A standard Plux 22 has 21 pins, the SLW one has 22. I got round it by swapping the lighting plug connection to another socket which was attached to another pin on the decoder socket and thus used one of the other function outputs from the decoder. This may be the same for the 25, maybe not.

    Hi Giz,

Have you got any pictures of this set up?

I've ordered a non sound Tamworth Castle thinking it was DCC ready.

    Cheers.

  5. Hi folks,

    An update on Port Carlisle.

I've altered the station throat, this has involved moving the up to down mainline crossover over to the board next to the radiator to give a little more room.

The point from the mainline to the throat has been moved back slightly and a 3 way point has been installed.

This has allowed for the station roads and 2 sidings to be lengthened, the platforms are now long enough for 8 coach trains and 2 locos or a 7 car HST, sidings can now accommodate 18 wagon mgr trains.

The loco stabling point has now been reduced to 3 roads but with a longer siding on the far road.

Next job is to complete the platform surfaces then ballasting.

New on the layout is the fantastic Accurascale Class 37 37051 in metals sector livery and 2 more HST power cars in Swallow livery.

That's all for now happy modelling.

That large casting you refer to is fixed to the locomotive, the two grey items are very large dampers and connect the bogie to the casting. The replicate such an arrangement in model form with microscopic dampers would be impossible so the Accurascale lads have taken the sensible step of making the mounting part of the bogie and hence a split that isn't on the real loco.

Maybe they could have compromised on the size of the casting on the bogie to bring the bogies a little closer to the body, still hasn't put me off and looking forward to getting mine because they look fantastic.

    Hi,

Bit late to the party, but wanted to ask whether BBA’s & BLA’s would appear in the same rake together ?
    Cheers.

Yes they did, I think some BBA's were converted to BLA's around 1994 so there were mixed rakes around that time, found a video on YouTube of 60034 hauling a mixed rake.

@McC @AccurascaleReceived yesterday - don't know if my earlier post expedited matters but thanks Accurascale. Still waiting for an answer to a question I posted earlier regarding cab lighting on a DC version - Yes or No? If Yes then how do I make it work please?

    Hi Graham 108,

I would say no, I only had control of the headlights (not the car headlight) with a non ESU decoder (yes I had read the warning card and set the switches to the correct positions).

I then purchased a ESU decoder from Accurascale and can now control the headlights and car headlight but can't control the cab or dial lighting, doesn't bother me that much but can control all the lighting features on the Deltic with a non ESU decoder.

    Hi everyone,

Just to follow up on this, we have created a set of transfers which will be available to customers who wish to correct their wagons as discussed above.

    IMG_1067.jpg.ba3410d153a733a9f4b46abf5329da5e.jpg

We began work on these in March this year and hoped to have them complete in a shorter space of time but it took longer than expected due to a few attempts to get the transfers to a level we were completely happy with. These are now being printed by our good friends at railtec and are due with us in a couple of weeks time.

Indeed, I had reached out to Nick previously informing him that we were doing the transfers back in March but they did take longer than I had envisaged initially. That's on me and I apologise to Nick for that, but was outside of my control. I have contacted Nick via PM to help make up for it.

Once we receive them we will invite customers who wish to correct their British Steel wagons to contact us with proof of purchase and we will post them out for free of charge. We will also provide a fitting guide on the website. Look out for instructions on how to redeem yours which will be posted here once they arrive with us which we will post here.

    Cheers!

    Fran

    Hi Fran,

Will you ever be doing a future run of the British Steel liveried wagons?

Would like a longer rake as i've extended my layout.

    Thanks

    Scott.

  10. I've had my non sound 37051 a few weeks now and have been very impressed with it seems an upward step from the deltic and feels more robust.

Just having problems regarding motor noise and lighting.

Firstly I fitted a Trainomatic Lokommander 11, loco was smooth in operation with acceptable motor noise (but louder than the deltic with the same decoder) but I did not have control of all the lighting functions, the big one being the car headlight.

I then decided to purchase an ESU Class 37 decoder from Accurascale.

I now have control of all the lighting functions but the motor sounds like a buzzing wasp at low speeds much louder than with the trainomatic decoder fitted.

As anyone got any advice to a DCC novice on any CV's I could change to reduce the motor noise?

Just wondering if I have a faulty loco as the motor noise is noticeably louder than my Accurascale deltic.

My Ballymoss kept derailing at two particular points on the layout, both on curves where there was a slight "hump" in the track at two baseboard joints.

I eventually realised that, at these points, the trailing bogie was pitching (moving in the plane of the loco) and then pivoting and then "unpitching" and straightening again.

As the bogie pivoted around the curve with the front of the trailing bogie pitching upwards and the rear pitching down (i.e. the loco was going over a slight hump in the track), this caused the top of the rear of the bogie to move directly below the coupling block on the chassis. If the bogie remained in this position as the loco came out of the curve and off the hump in the track, it ended up lodged beneath the coupling block. As the loco moved out of the curve, the bogie then became jammed against the coupling block and unable to straighten, causing the derailment.

The eventual fix proved to be filing a bevel of a couple of mm's on the top edge of the coupling block and the V in the end of the bogie. This stops the interlocking between the bogie and coupling block and prevents the bogie from becoming lodged on top of the coupling block as the loco comes out of the curve.

Not sure how well I've explained that, but I hope it helps someone! There may well be other reasons for these locos derailing, but this has completely eradicated the problems with my Ballymoss and I don't have any derailment issues with it now.

I have 4 Accurascale Deltics and test runs have indicated that two of the others are fine and one suffers from the same derailment issue, so that one will also have to undergo minor surgery.

As regards the infamous rattle, it really is just a question of opening the loco up and checking for possible sources. The main source of the rattle in my Ballymoss was one of the two circuit boards under the loco's roof. This couldn't be tightened using the screws, so I eventually ended up unscrewing it and attaching it to the loco using Bluetac. I also unscrewed the speaker and did the same with that. These two steps seemed to eliminate the rattle completely.

Result: a fantastic loco but quite a lot of working out what was wrong and then solving the problem to get there!

Fortunately, the other three locos do not seem to suffer from the same rattle.

I have now sold all my Bachmann Deltics and am enjoying my Accurascale ones. I came to realise just how far out the nose of the Bachmann Deltic is when I opened the box containing my first Accurascale one. I hadn't really worked out what was wrong with the Bachmann Deltic until that moment. The Accurascale one looks spot on for shape.

    Hope that helps!

My KOYLI would constantly derail on my lift up section at the baseboard joint where no other stock would, was the same issue a slight difference in track height at the join, re-adjusted the track level and now runs faultlessly.

  12. A bit more progress on the layout this weekend.

Backscenes are now completed these are id backscenes, I wasn’t happy with the docks scene as the water looked too close to the sidings, this has been replaced with an industrial backscene.

Ive been fitting Kadee couplers to the loco fleet due to annoying random uncoupling with tension locks, and fitted Hunt magnetic couplers to my rake of Cavalex Mgr wagons.

Ive purchased a DCC Concepts MPD to turn locos as I have only fitted a kadee at one end of the locos and fitted end detail at the other.

Finally got round to fitting a loco crew, nameplates and front end detail to 55002.

Did have derailment issues with the loco when it first arrived but after some tweaks to the track on the lift up section it now runs well without any issue.

    Cheers.

I  was  hoping  for  a  model  of  the  real  Port  Carlisle  terminus.

However  operating  potential  would  be  limited  and  getting  the  Horse  Dandy's  motion  to  work  correctly  might  be  a  challenge.

A  ancestral  relative  was  station  master  here,  I  suspect  he  had  few  (if  any)  staff.

    Pete

    Hi Pete,

No sorry, the layout is a 'what if' Port Carlisle had developed into a large town and port and was seeing major traffic from the  WCML and Cumbrian Coast line in the late 1980's.

Just a quick google search looks like it was a 1 platform affair with a loop and the Horse Dandy looks interesting.

    Thanks for having a look.

    Scott.

Hi, we are surprised that you are having trouble with your couplings.

We have found that straight out of the box some of the NEM pockets are misaligned however it takes a small push with your finger to straighten them up.

Once straight and coupled to the next wagon they should work fine. We have run several full sized 36 wagon rakes with no derailment issues.

If you are planning to use magnetic couplers though can I please recommend hunt pivoting couplers as per the link below. These should work great with our HAA.

    Hi Cav,

Fitted the wagons with Hunt Couplings Elite straight close couplings and all good, not a hint of a derailment, even go round 2nd radius curves with no buffer lock.

    Cheers

    Scott.
