  1. Had a few non-payers in the early days of ebay, but nowdays I find I'll list a load of items and there is always the one person who doesn't pay up straight away, and a lot of the time looking at the bidding time they put the bid in seconds before the auction ends. It's very frustrating because it means extra trips to the post office and the item is usally something that is worth pennies, it's times like that it just dosen't feel worth it and on occasion i've just donated to a charity shop rather than have to deal with ebay.

  2. As a model rail subscriber I've been avoiding this topic just in case I let the cat out of the bag,but I was hoping that Bachmann would release this beauty when they announced the H2. The price is steep but it's pleasing to know and appreciated that parties involved have tried their best to keep the cost down. If £180 is the future of model prices then I do like the idea of pre-ordering with a deposit at least that way you can spread the cost.

  3. What a great subject not having been able to see the heyday of the railways I'm fasinated by dissused railway lines and old structures, nothing better to pass the time and try and follow an old railway line on google earth. Passing under the bridge of the great central at  Finmere station does it for me espically when I catch a glimpse of the rolling stock in storage there I always wonder what it would have been like to see the Master Cutler flying over the bridge.

Old loco sheds, on the Midland mainline there is the remains of Bedford, also Kentish Town, Wellingborough, Derby roundhouse, then there were several in south Leeds, Holbeck MR and the NER roundhouse.

    Dava

Agreed loved seeing the old shed at Bedford when I used to catch the train up to London there, Bedford was/is a good spot for old structures, the orginal St John's platform still remains (last time I was there it did) I think the old signal box on the Bedford to Bletchley line has gone but I used to love seeing that as a kid, there is majority of structures and old infurstructure left form the Bedford to Hitchin line, including Cardington Station and signal (although could have been put up by owners). There still is a bridge over the ouse for the line to Goldington power station and still a good bit of Potten station (a garden centre now I think) on the Oxford to Cambridge line.

Another great find when living in Cholsey was the track bed and overbridge of the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton line near Blewbury and the one of Bridges that remain futher along near East Ilsley. Now living in Faringdon I can see the old station from my Bedroom window, although now a nursery rather than derlict but I do wonder what it would have been like if the preservation movement had got there first. And of course there's the remains of the Highworth and Fairford branches that I see quite often on my travels around south Oxfordshire.

  4. Hmmmmm

Surely the fact that the running number on the box doesnt match the one on the coach suggests an error?

Just spotted this one myself I think that is lowest of low I've seen on eBay in some time.

Edit: Just spotted the seller I've been conned by him before in regards to a shiny M.I.B Hornby A4 Silver LInk. The poor excuse of  a silver turd he sent me had clearly been dropped did not run and the chassis was glued into the body. Two weeks after I sent it back he had the nerve to sell it again it went for 60% more than what I paid for it and the description was even less accurate second time round.

  5. I have had read through this topic and I like to add my agreement to some of the suggestions:

    - Firstly put me down for some LNER quads and a N7 to go with.

-The Port of Par Twins count me in even though not my region I'd find a way to fit them in (a fictional industrial livery should work)

-The LNER J70 and/or Y6 Tram possibly limited scope as they are mostly associated with the Wisbech and Upwell but I'm sure those with the modeler's license would have one and they did work the docks of Yarmouth and Ipswich. They could really do with some Wisbech tram coaches if you do produce them  :derisive:

-LNER E4/GER T26, Delightful in GER Blue, Survived into BR days, not restricted to one region with six members being located in the north east and one is preserved.

If you want to tempt me back to N gauge an S&D 7F would be very nice.

  6. I recall a few, the 'Northern' livery engine in 'Miss Potter' for one and the fight scene on the bullet train in 'The Wolverine' the overhead wires are visible but the signals are in the path of the pantograph! And don't get me started on channel 5's Great Western show!

  7. I'm glad this topic has been bumped back to the top of the table otherwise I would probably never have seen it what a cracking layout. I love the cricket scene, where did you get the players from?

  8. I've only just come across this thread but that issue of model rail was fantastic I fear I may have to order a back copy as the one I have is pretty beat up after reading it cover to cover. The trackplan is great and I have started work on my own Midford although I only have space for 8ft by 6ft so I have squashed the plan a bit and removed the branch line. My plan includes a 4 road fiddle yard the down side is I can only have 6 coach trains but I intend to build the layout so It can be extended when space arises. Although 6 coach trains might not to be everyone's taste it's a sacrifice I can live with.

I love the simplicity of the original plan and as a S&D theme layout was on the cards it's timing was perfect, with the fact it can be built on boards no wider than a foot Midford is ideal for the space starved modeler especially as a spare bed needs to fit in my railway room as well !

So thanks for the inspiration and hopefully I can put some updates of my progress on here a bit later on... now where's the chap who wanted to start an S&D Pendon...
