  5. American-style 'craftsman' kits - the nearest thing to scratchbuilding out of a box!

Even better when you have a workbench to build them on :-)

  6. At last bought a Dremel in the sales as an Xmas prezzie to self. What a brilliant tool - drrrrrrrrrrrrr... !!!

Thanks for your encouragement guys. Yes Jerry, I have a full schedule of 'drilling and grinding' planned for 2013 ...and beyond! (but Horsetan will be relieved that I've given up the home-dentistry, he he)

      DavidLong

Yes but you need to FINISH THE WORKBENCH! Sorry, shouted a bit there :-)

I know, I KNOW: Finish the workbench. You're quite right, David. Sometimes I need shouting at... :-)

@David: O ye of little faith. It takes skill and time to do a 'proper job' and fit dove-tail joints and lathe-turned supports, don't ya know. Ha ha, not that I'm doing it that way, of course. I'm just a lazy git really! Still, I did a wee bit more tonight...

@Andy: I'm looking forward to that stage too. Not so keen on all this other stuff, truth be known. Sod the woodwork! (if I could) :D

  9. Bums! I'm gonna miss Swindon Rail Fest this weekend (lotsa S scale on show) :(

Sounds like a particularly bad piece of planning, Mr.C :-(

    3. Phil Copleston

      Phil Copleston

Indeed. As well as the S scale goodies, Jerry and Kim are taking 2mmFS 'Tucking Mill' (its 1st dry run before Warley, I believe), and that nice N-gauge 'Bodmin' layout will be there too. Bad planning, Mr.L? It's catastrophic!! :'(

  10. Dear RMwebbers: If it all gets too much being 'jolly' with family and relations over Xmas, here's your escape plan http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/collections/p01277qd/steam-railways Please forward link to others in need. Merry Xmas all!

You're most welcome, my fellow webbies! Enjoy your antidote to Xmas parlour games :-)

I agree BlackRat. Although I thought the two recently-broadcast programmes - "The Golden Age of Steam Railways" - presented our interests most intelligently (apart from the bloke in Programme One surrounded by a train set and Lionel boxes!), and without the usual mocking tone. Well done BBC Four!

  11. Exeter show... here we come!

      Phil Copleston

Thanks. Home at last. It was most enjoyable, albeit frustrating at times (teething probs with the layout). Some lovely layouts there: P4 'Bodmin' was as exquisite as ever, and 'Evenstoke' a sheer delight. Bob Barlow came by the say "hello", and the Good Captain turned up to amuse us all! Maurice returns a cheery wave too, David. And of course, I managed to acquire my obligatory "something S scale" from the second-hand stands, so it was all well worthwhile...

  12. I don't mind whether a loco is red, black or green, or if it goes 'chuff chuff' or 'brumm brumm'. If it has flanged wheels and runs on rails, then I'm interested!! :D

What if it sort of makes a whooshing sound and has a panto?

    3. Phil Copleston

      Phil Copleston

Mallard60022: Of course. Something that makes a whoooshing sound works for me too, so long as it comes with flanged wheels and track! :-)

  13. I had a great day demo-ing 2mm scale narrow gauge at NG South West, Shepton Mallet yesterday. Thanks Jerry (queenssquare) for helping out at such short notice - I owe you a pint!

Righty-ho, Jerry - cya at Camrail, if not before. Pints 'll be lined up on the bar ready! :D

  14. I'll demo-ing with the 2mm Scale Narrow Gauge Group at NG Southwest, Whitstone School, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, BA4 5PF this coming Sat 16th Feb 2013. See ya there micro train buffs!

Oh I intend to, David. Mark and Jerry will be on the stand as well, helping to push the credulity of some visitors passed their limits! he he

  15. Just got back from Trainwest - an excellent weekend of 2mmFS and S scale and great company. Thanks guys!

  16. Just got home from helping at the Bideford show... 2mm FS 'Highclare' was the highlight!

  17. Lookin' forward to the weekend and the Wigan show!

And the Gwynedd Grice to follow :-)

    2. Phil Copleston

      Phil Copleston

And the 'official' Cumbrian birthday celebration in between! :-)

  18. Looking forward to seeing the S scale flagship layout 'East Lynn & Nunstanton' for one last time at Trainwest (Melksham) on the 14th April (sob, sob)

  19. Maurice and I are ready and set up at the Southwold show with the 'Country Boards' (its last outing) for this weekend. Anyone else coming to the show?

  20. Off to CamRail this weekend - looking forward to a jolly time!

  21. Off to Wells for the show today - looks like a good 'un!

  22. Pondering over questions about diesels on the Cambrian... instead of getting on with work!

  23. Robert Alexander Baron Schutzman von Schutzmandorff (Bob Symes to you and me) sadly died today. He was 90 (b. 6 May 1924). His Wikipedia entry is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Symes A characterful figure in both the railway and model railway world, he was definately a gentleman of the old school. R.I.P. Bob.

She's 'of this parish' as they say. Avatar shows long flowing locks - (holding a dog too I think but my eyes aren't what they used to be - and to be honest, neither is the rest of me!)
