  1. Just read the last few pages of this thread. There is a detectable joy and relief that this product is finally appearing.

However, I am saddened about the discussions about where the keys are, what they are made of and do they protrude etc..  Not because I scoff at the striving for perfection, but because I can't even see the chairs!

  2. Dear all if this thread has been anything...it surely has to have been.....fun..enjoyment...the speculation...anticipation...debate on what is or isn't a worthy candidate for the accolade of gbl..the conversion..improvement?.adaptation...in conclusion it's been a great journey and to all my fellow travellers......thank you

"...in conclusion it's been a great journey" sounds like it's the end. It may be the end of the series, but I feel it isn't the end of modifications. We could see post starting with "the other day I found a GBL Class XYZ I had forgotten about, and wondered....."  for many years to come.

Have faith, fellow travellers. The journey is not over.

  3. The GBL series, sadly, seems to have disappeared from the shelves of our local Asda.

Poyntons, in the old market hall in Derby, always seem to have good stocks. Picked up an 8F yesterday and at least one boxfull still available.

  4. Except that one day I might have to over pay for and then rip it out of a nice RTR model that I like, because it doesn't get manufactured any other way.

.Why should that happen? The DC guys once said something similar about DCC, but here we are many years later still able to buy DC locos, "chip ready" with a blanking plug. Just buy a decoder of your chosen system, a few minutes to fit it and away you go. With the exception of a few ready-fitted Junior and Starter sets, I see no reason for this to change.

  5. The only problem, as the owner of several 0-4-0 tanks in OO, is that on "standard" track (as opposed to finescale) short wheelbase tanks have a habit of turning sideways when reaching a point frog.

Surely not insurmountable. There is, after all, a model of an L&Y 0-4-0ST.

  6.  and with the wheelbase being the same perhaps there's the possibility of a standard mechanism to save costs?

Good idea. A large number of highly diverse industrial 0-4-0Ts used a 5' 6" wheelbase.

  7. ps I also have an affection for German Shepherds.

    Pete

You have an affection for German Shepherds???????

Oh, you mean German Shepherd dogs ?

    ..........oops!.......I'll get me coat....a thick one....it's cold out.......yes, it's a lovely kitten!
