  1. The original CC72000 model is fairly crude. So you won't want to put any rolling stock with it that is to modern standards.

So early Jouef Corail stock would indeed be suitable as would the UIC-Y coaches, or DEV Inox (once again the older Jouef model) or Lima DEV.

I will have a look in my old shop spares box to see if there are any suitable buffers.

EDIT: Looking again at OP, I see that you just say CC, not 72000. Given the age, you probably have the CC70000. That probably means that Corail stock is not suitable. I will do a bit more research.

  2. June 21, there is the Solstice Collectors' Car Gathering, an evening event at the Shaftesbury & Gillingham Showground on the B3081 at Motcombe. Hope to get there this year.

Should have mentioned that this is a charity event in aid of STARS the Salisbury Hospital charity.

I have also noticed that it is advertised as a vintage vehicle gathering, so not just for the car enthusiast.

  3. I noticed yesterday that the Solstice event at Gillingham & Shaftesbury Showground on 21 June is now advertised as a Vintage Vehicle Gathering. So presumably buses and commercials as well as cars.

It's a charity event in aid of STARS the Salisbury Hospital Charity with specific reference to cancer treatment.

  4. My pleasure Keith ;)

Another quick Mini pic from Gaydon yesterday... rare fiesta Yellow, not a popular colour back then but I rather like it...

    attachicon.gifDSCF1201 (2).JPG

My parents ended up with a Fiesta Yellow Mini Estate: KPE641C which was still my mum's car when I was learning to drive in 1974.

They had wanted the Ivory White or Almond Green (as per the next back in that photo). But delivery delays were long so the dealer in Epsom finally rang up to offer them the Fiesta Yellow. "Oh, you mean Sickly Green", said my mother. You are right, it was not a popular colour.

  5. Hmm. I know the whereabouts of the last remaining half roll of Bolton moquette, in fact I'm meeting the owner of it this morning, but as he too owns a Bolton bus and I've pestering him about it for years.... I'll have to see if I can sneak it into the van when he's not looking!

I guess that with modern computer techniques it is a lot easier than it used to be to replicate these patterns.

  6. Getting goods into Minories is proving very difficult.   Its also proving hard to expand the plan.  Here are my latest themed layouts (not truly Minories).

I don't see why goods should be a problem.

Firstly, van trains could be handled in passenger platforms during the night and off-peak.

But apart from that, should not be difficult to arrange things so that goods train arrives in a platform road; pilot loco shunts train into headshunt (parallel with hidden sidings or even part of fiddleyard/traverser) and then back into goods warehouse, coal drops, or whatever.

  7. I'm slightly confused. London has Kings Cross for the LNER, Waterloo for the SR, & Paddington for the GWR. Was St Pancras for the LMS or was it Euston? Why were there 5 terminus stations if there were only 4 railways companies?

I would recommend you try and find a copy of Alan Jackson's book on London Termini. Originally published in the 1960s but reprinted since.

On the Monopoly board, all four stations are LNER, presumably some sort of publicity arrangement. As already mentioned, although the LT&S used Fenchurch St it was a GER/LNER station by virtue of the GER taking over the London and Blackwall Rly.

London is not particularly unusual among big cities in having a lot of termini, Paris and Vienna being good examples although two of the Vienna stations have been merged in recent years.

  8. Well after missing Doncaster because I had to work, I was a bit miffed, so I decided to have a couple of hours today painting, although that didn't go quite as planned either. I spent most of the time cleaning airbrushes.

I have numerous airbrushes, for different jobs, but the two I tried to use today decided that they'd become blocked. Now I'm fastidious with my airbrushes/guns in keeping them clean and ready to use the next time, but I normally place a little piece of masking tape over the hole on the cup to stop the thinners from evaporating, but the thinners had gone and it was dry as Ghandi's flip flop!!!, so a full strip down and service two airbrushes before anything could be done!

Anyway, back to the jobs I'd decided to do.

I'd purchased some figures from a French company that Mike hads recommended and I decided to put a couple together (well glue the head on one at least), and then primer them with Halfords white primer. They are very detailed, and reasonably priced.

    This is the company:  http://www.abe28.fr/en/22-figurine-1-43

    Here they are after priming.......

I'd also purchased some office furniture from Skytrex for the signal box, so I decided to solder the chair together, clean up and primer/paint those as well

    attachicon.gifTally 222.jpg

And lastly I built this Skytrex corrugated shed as there is one very similar on platform 1 at Talyllyn. Primered and then roof masked off and GWR cream airbrushed onto the outside walls, which is how it was at Talyllyn.

More very soon, including a continuation of the signal box build, and the imminent arrival of the signals from Jon Fitness (Need to get those platform tops done now!!!!).

    Jinty ;)

Those figurines are stunningly well detailed. Very reasonable for the price especially when you consider that we used to call this company All Bl**dy Expensive.

  9. 7mm Signal Box kit now available.

Initially stone as pictured but a full brick version will be available soon.

Origin of this box? It looks like some of the boxes in Wales. Not sure that I like the stone courses but could  be interested in a brick one.

  10. If the building is 9cm wide, an island platform would probably need to be more than 15cm wide. There has to be a minimum of 6ft between the platform edge and any fixed structure (buildings, railings, lampposts, etc). 6ft x 4mm = 24mm x 2 = 48mm. Of course, 9cm + 4.8mm is only 13.8mm but that minimum measurement rarely applies. You would normally expect at least 10ft which would give a platform 17cm wide.

  11. Out of curiosity I checked that journey on the Deutsche Bahn website last night. It shows several trains that day from both Gare de l'Est and Gare du Nord.

    Is that still www.kursbuch.de?

Edit: Yes, it is. And that is still showing "something odd" going on. The journey times are 3 hours plus. Even the traditional route was only 90 mins and I think it is about 40 mins on TGV. The options are better than shown on the SNCF site (one suggestion involves departing from Montparnasse!!!) but still something not right.

Will have to suggest to Abi that they go the day before if possible. Snag is that she wanted a lot of friends to be able to get there and a Friday will make that difficult.

  12. Any attempt to increase speeds on the Brighton main line would cause capacity issues due to the double track bottleneck south of Three Bridges and the stations on that stretch that stopping trains have to serve.

But that is just as true for any solution that uses a double track route via Lewes.

Quadrupling the line would be very difficult in places, particularly Balcombe Viaduct, so the best solution would probably be a new dedicated high speed line following the route of the M23 and A23.

  13. Mail order has always been important to them. Francis also does a lot of exhibitions which is why he is closed at weekends. US HO is his personal interest.

There are other zeroistes in the region but no clubs that I know of with an O gauge section.

  14. From what I can see all the trains are running from Gare du Nord on that day after the 8:42.  The Nord departures seem to be substantially faster than the one from Est.  The 12th is a Saturday.  Is it possible that there is planned engineering works over what will be for many an extended weekend?

It looks to me like engineering works blockade with coaches from various points around Paris to Reims TGV station. But as mentioned, the various SNCF websites are fairly poor.

I did wonder if there might be a delay in opening reservations but surely one would open reservations for a busy weekend before others.
