  1. Excellent post; I now know how I can set up the EsPee diesels with their plethora of lights (4 white and 1 red on the long head, and two sets of 2 white plus a single red on the short hood). Many thanks.
  2. Another book, albeit especially for modellers of the major Western roads (EsPee, BN and two that I can't bring myself to mention) is Hanggie's "Pool Power West". it's got shots of foreign (i.e. guest/leased etc.) power on the four roads' metals. There are also some shots of these roads' power running as pay-back/guests on Eastern metals.
  3. Mixed Train Daily is superb; but I regard any of Beebe's railroad titles to be wonderful; the gentleman's way with words is so distinctive and so beguiling. There are still copies out there if you need another. Or look for "The Trains We Rode".
  4. On the question of two separate web-sites, IIRC the "ehattons" one was intended for and better suited to broadband users while the "hattons" one, being less graphics-intense, was better for those people struggling with dial-up or slow broadband connections.
  5. Hofsommer's is a very good book on the system - if you can find Richard Orsi's "Sunset Limited" it covers the corporate history up to 1930 and complements Hofsommer's. John Signor's books are all worth looking out for - they cover individual divisions of the EsPee. Lucius Beebe's magisterial "Central Pacific and Southern Pacific" deals with the early days in a style which I find wonderful but which many find overblown. Morning Sun and Four Ways West do books on various roads and on geographic areas, almost always in full colour(color). Motorbooks International do monographs on a few roads, written by people who know their subjects.
