  1. I am debating getting 'Aberporth Grange' which would be my 4th Grange (which makes me think of the Peep Show skit "four naan, Jeremy, four! That's insane!"). I have 3 Granges already but it's a good price for a Grange. I don't know how I feel about owning more than one shirtbutton Granges (the other 3 are shirtbutton, shirtbutton (will turn into GW possibly), and black BR (turn into GWR).

When I buy the same loco class, I try to buy in a different livery each time (the 3 Castles I have all are all different (Great (crest) Western, shirtbutton, G W).

How does everyone else look at having multiples of the same loco class in the same livery?

Just spare a thought for those of us who were conservative party  activists in the past,  and now are politically homeless

That network north document looks like it was drafted on the proverbial fag packet, not just the contents but even the some of the sentences are incomplete.  And branding improvements in Devon and Cornwall as the north     ( need to repair the damage in the wall caused by my head)

The only railway project not on that list is four tracking Welwyn... mind you as  the MP is G Shapps ...

Oh for the MPs of old like Robert Adley who had the knowledge

Does Sunak or his wife own any road building companies? 🤣

  3. Just curious, if any Granges would have had a tender during their lives with the following:

    - Great Western - I know Granges were built in the shirtbutton era but would it been possible for one to switch an older unrepainted tender?

    - G (crest) W - I assume the majority of the tenders in the WW2/post war period would probably have GWR on it, just curious about the other livery?

One of the things that jumps out at me now whenever I  visit Europe or North America is the amount of graffiti. I think because ot is so prevalent people in Europe and North America  don't notice it so much but if you visit after adjusting to somewhere with no graffiti it is horrendous.

Naples in Italy was like a war zone of graffiti - it was eye opening.

  5. In the July 2013 edition of Steam Days magazine, Richard Wooley on the GWR 47xx class in BR days ends his article by saying:

"I had reserved the cast cab-side numberplate off No 4703 (and I have paperwork to prove it). Unfortunately, this one was not returned to Swindon Works' stores after the engine's withdrawal. So if anyone has 'the other' No 4703 plate out there I will be delighted to pay them 7 quid 10shillings, plus some interest of course..."

Just curious how often something like this would happen during the end of steam days (not necessarily the WR, just BR in general)? I would assume that a numberplate could have been 'not returned/stolen' and sold to someone else or kept as a souvenir by the staff/shed crew/engine crew?

In fact, that plus a reduction of the number of cars actually racing, making qualifying more intense rather than merely arranging grid positions for all the cars fielded.

the one thing that really helped qualifying was the change to the shootout format rather than “you have an hour, have fun” format from before.

I wish f1 adopted it much earlier.

Not necessarily - it could have been a visiting loco that was borrowed. Presumably 77077's allocation was justified and there was some regular traffic that should have taken it away from Taunton at times.

Does anyone know what livery this engine or WD's in general would have been in around this time?

Simple, the other teams don’t want their earnings to be diluted by an 11th or even a 12th team. They don’t want Andretti either, and he called them out on it last year,

But it’s not up to the teams - it’s up to the FIA. The 200m expansion fee was agreed to by all the teams, they are just playing from their corner. If the teams had say about who could come in, then it’s a cartel and there’s antitrust legislation to be litigated.

I assume that the application wasn’t serious enough for the FIA to consider, given the female driver isn’t even close to a super licence.
