  1. There is a film on Youtube of a train being prepared in the Sheffield area, and I think it involves the full loads depot. Should be findable via Google.

This superb video is called "Third Rail Report", nothing to with emus(!), the main star being D8056 sparkling new (with sound much dubbed down!), it ventures onto the GCR Meadowhall-Birdwell stretch at one point, and picks up other stock at various points.Highly recommended viewing Imo. There's some nice shots of an ex-SR brake van.too.

  2. Almost completed 84009, which for a reason I have not been able to discover, was the sole loco based in either the ER or NER . being at Hull from June 59 to Dec 62.

Rowan, So pleased to see an actual Royston shed inmate being modelled. Was allocated from new to Royston for working the  push-pull service from Cudworth to Barnsley Courthouse, and then as you rightly point out left for Hull Dairycoates in June '59. Keep up the good work!.  Malcolm

  3. Was a model with this running number ever produced RTR, or have GBL just picked this one at random with no idea of its history ?

I suspect the latter - can't ever recall seeing a Triang-Hornby or Lima version with this number, can anyone confirm this at all?

  4. Just for clarification the real D1562 exploded and caught fire on 13/3/71 whilst working the 19.43 Norwich-Liverpool Street near Haughley Junction.  Stored at Ipswich from 13-24/3/71 and then taken to Crewe Works, and formally withdrawn 20/6/71. Cut up September that year at Crewe. Was new 14/3/64 - source Allocation History of BR Diesels & Electrics (second edition) Roger Harris.

  5. What you've got there are the Grapes of Hroth.

does Hroth live at 41C then...............it now would be very noisy at that site now - with part of the Dearne Valley Link road going through. In fact apart from Wath Central Station building (as a private dwelling) it's hard to to tell that there was ever a railway there, sadly..

  6. Obviously cutting the garden hedge in the fine weather springs to mind! Not one of the bettter locomotive names was it, but provides us with a chuckle whilst we wait (patiently?!!) for the class 47. Presumably Locomotion would now be due c.23 September. Would like to know the truth behind the delay in the Class 47, as opposed to any official statement from Amercom....................

  7. You would have thought the Home Secretary would have bought a few back with her earlier, or better still got that lorry to the front of the queue....

We might get "swarms" of Class 47s - oh dear are we allowed to use that word now........... !

  8. I checked in the Boston WH Smiths, and couldn't see them - "no problem" thinks me, I've got three on order at Grantham.

I called into the Grantham WH Smiths at 16:30ish, to be told they are a week late, but I've got two on order - "I was hoping for three!" says I, the assistant (Manager?) says she'll sort it out.

By the way, WH Smiths Boston has always seemed to have copies on the shelf when I've looked before.

I have yet to be let down by WH Smiths in Grantham, they seem to be a god crew there.

We seem to be in some sort of time-loop here - this is turning into an episode of Dr Who. We seem to be in sort of time-loop here etc! etc!!

  9. It manages to be large and small at the same time.

I think the HSE might have some concerns - no handrails, ramps, non-slip surfaces. On a more serious note how the devil does one start a new topic on here - looked on the Topics box and a word in the one sentence has been blacked out completely. Can anyone assist please?

  10. Hi all,

I have a couple more old H-D loco's that I will be stripping and repainting,As to be honest they are a complete mess. I was considering using nitromores to strip them with. What should i use to neutralise any left over nitromores on the body shells before i start to paint them.Is soap and water ok or do I need to buy a neutralising solution.

Also what tape do you recommend for masking.I have some tape that was recommended to me by a friend, but it leaves a nasty residue behind that has to be cleaned off.

    Thanks

On the subject of masking tape, Wilkinsons do a very good and relatively inexpensive low-tack version, although it only appears to be available in 1" widths, but other than that aspect I can heartily recommend. HTH

  11. Does anyone know if the Ivatt 2MT Tank has arrived in stores/ newsagents today? Its strange there's been little recent anticipation of this issue.

Perhaps the late arrival of Lord Nelson last Wednesday has caused us collectively to overlook the proper

    schedule ?

It arrived in South Yorkshire "on-time" - must admit I for one, was expecting it to be late after the Lord Nelson debacle!! But credit where credit's due to Amercom - "I'll get mi coat" = to quote Mark Williams!!

  12. I know its off topic but in reply to the person who mentioned Atlas Editions i have ordered a specific model I wanted

in there great british buses collection they do a Leyland lynx in midland red west livery and because they were operated in Redditch I rang them and asked if I could order just that one? and because I already had the £2 model at the start so phoned up to pay my £2 and while I was on I asked if they had the one I wanted and was told it wont be out for another 3 month but if I want one I can order one! so I paid for it there and then. and the lady on the phone asked if I wanted  to order any of the other upcoming models if not ill cancel your subscription its up to you? so I said no I just want the one please so she  cancelled my subscription. Low and behold the bus I wanted came just as she said a few months later and iv not heard of them since

I would give Atlas Editions a very wide berth I'm afraid. Had problems cancelling a "subscription" I had allegedly taken out. Plus the fact you get junk-mail for the next 2-3 years!!

  13. I have found out quite by chance that "Buy & sell" is now operational this weekend. Have tracked back to my last comment on it on page 188 I can see no official announcement of this since on this thread. Given the fact that we have "64" followers - which I suspect is the largest for any topic on here - a short announcement by the powers-that-be that it is now fully functional would have been appreciated. Or am I just old-fashioned in a business sense?

  14. I notice that the "Buy and Sell" title appears briefly before logging -in, it would be nice for the powers-that-be to give us an update on progess made. The other thing was that given that the GBL Magazines are so thin, if the series is to finish no.41, why issue another free binder for just another ten copies (?), or am I being suspicious???  :declare:
