  1. On the other hand the BR versions cover a time when I have actual experience of steam railways, if not Garratts themselves (one, the last in BR work, 47996, was pictured in my 1958 'Observers' book).

According to several sources, e.g. The Book of the LM Garratts, 47994 was the last to be withdrawn on 29/3/58. 47996 lasted until 9/6/56.

  2. 47992, which arrived four days ago, is still undergoing running in and route testing.   Several problems with the pony trucks derailing have occurred on various types of Peco code 100 points (mainly small radius points in the fiddle yard but also single and double slips).   The wheel back to backs were found to be a little on the low side.

Adjusting them cured the problems.  The wheels are easily unclipped from the truck.

  3. Hattons photographs of the two recently arrived B.R. locos show that the lion is not looking towards the chimney on the fireman's side as Heljan have used two left facing crests.

  4. The filer caps are just a push fit to cover the fixing screws if you glue it you won't be able to remove the body.

To clarify, it was the loose / rotating front footsteps which I glued and not the filler caps.

  5. My latest Beyer Garratts arrived on Friday, 266203, 266204, 266210 and 266212, on careful opening of each package i found that on each model the water tank filler cap had come off, luckily i found each one, be very careful,  as i do not believe spare parts are available from Hattons, still running each Garratt in at present, no other problems or faults have shown up as yet so far.

I found that my model of 47967 (266205) arrived with one filler cap missing and no trace of it could be found in the packaging. I contacted Hattons and they sent out a replacement the following day.  They may have removed one from a returned locomotive.

47992 (266212) was delivered early on Saturday morning (by City Link's Monday to Friday before 1730 service!) and, as mentioned by robmcg, the filler cap for the front tank was resting on top of the tank right next to where it should have been. This model also shed a front step during early testing / running in. It took a fair bit of finding.  All have now been glued in place.

Interestingly both models behave differently when negotiating certain less than perfect sections of track, 47992 being the more awkward of the pair.  The PW gang is being kept busy!

  6. Very good service from Hattons and City Link for a pre-ordered Beyer Garratt which came into stock yesterday lunch time..  The item had been packed within two hours and City Link delivered it today (Saturday) at 08:15. It was sent by their Monday - Friday before 1730 service. Less than 40 minutes before delivery the on-line tracking web page indicated that delivery would be on Monday!

  7. Have Emailed the seller about it. Have purchased from him in the past and his items have always been excellent as description and well packed don't know how his missed this one

Item ended by the seller at 15:36 - no longer available.

  8. Yes, Hatton's warehouse opened (I think) in 2011.

called in to hattons today en-route to edge hill, last time i visited was in 2009 and i wasn't impressed, boxes everywhere so not able to see what was in the cabinets easily and no service to speak of HOWEVER calling in there today i was impressed, no boxes, helpful staff and the items i wanted (not going to say needed!) were available in the shop to take away at a good price (£66 for 8 BP green TTA wagons)

i take it they have moved the mail order side of things away from the shop?
