  1. Must remember to paint the leading bogie wheels of 82111 and 82145 yellow, with white tyres.....

    And no - I don't know why!

    Cheers,

    Mick

    Could it be as simple as its a light coating of rust on the discs as they look to be new wheelsets?

    Jeff.

  2. But with fast daytime rail services between London and Edinburgh/Glasgow, and a good air alternative to Aberdeen and Inverness,

    Methinks you're missing one of the main points of the services, as neither of those options is any use if I have to be in London for a meeting early am. It would mean travelling down the day beforehand and staying overnight in London. A much more expensive option I'd suggest.

  3. Accidentally clicked on the tread rather than the new posts button and couldn't help but chuckle at the 2nd pos, quoted below.

    Clearly this has been in the planning stages for sometime then given the close timing of the retailers annoucements for special editions.

    Long overdue. Good to hear modellers wont be waiting for 2.5 years.

    Nope be nearer 3!

  4. Duplicate signal IDs aren't a problem as long as they aren't controlled by the same signalling centre.

    Yes and no in my opinion.

    Back then when SPT or plug in was the only means of communication then it wasn't an issue.

    Nowadays with mobile and similar in cab then having the controlling box clearly identified is preferable, particularly with the largely contract trackside workforce.

  5. Thanks guys.

    I'm used to seeing signals with just a straightforward identification e.g SY205 = Saltley 205, no up, down or anything else.

    EDIT What are 203A and 203B?

    As others have said it was the western system plus and minus like everything else but the LM system won out eventually.

    203A & B are probably the one track circuit (and hence signal) that has been split either due to length or possibly for clearing a crossing. Is there still a barrow type crossing at Starcross? Its been a long time since I was last down that way, class 50's were still in charge back then!

    Jeff.

    Jeff.

  6. Could some one explain about the train tracker diagram?

    On the diagram we presumably have:

    Dxxx = Dawlish controlled block

    Exxx = Exeter controlled block

    So what are Uxxx blocks?

    Cheers

    Keith

    Think Exxx are controlled signals

    Dxxx are down line auto signals

    Uxxx are up line auto signals.

    HTH

    Jeff.
