  1. Fabulous layout - so life like. I used to spot at New Southgate - A4's, Blue Deltic and Falcon when it was still experimental.

As for the Corona man, he used to come round mid-week, the milk float was horse drawn - the horse was named Danny, but I can't remember whether is was Express Dairies or United?

The only problem with spotting at New Southgate station, was that it was right next to the asylum, then commonly known as Colney Hatch, later became Friern Hospital - there used to be some very strange people walking about!

  2. May be I've been looking at to many Hornby R numbers, but does anyone know what the coach set number will be for R4534C - should it ever appear.  The original R3087 Train Pack with M7 loco, was set no.600, the coach pack the same year R4534 was 610. The still awaited R4534A is set 616 and R4534B is 603 - I think!  I notice in the 2014 catalogue the item is shown as R4534B/C, I assume this means two sets? There is no mention of coach set numbers in the latest catalogue.

Have just had confirmation from Graham Muspratt today (3 February),  that R4534B will be Unit 603.  A unit number for R4534C listed in the 2014 items has yet to be decided.

  3. Big Bill,

There will be long, medium and short platforms. There will be stone faced, brick faced and concrete. Some with subway entrances, some without. Some with tarmac surfaces, some paved. there will be straight, curved (both inner and outer) in a variety of radius. They will come in mainline terminus format down to a country halt. They will offer a unique service, rather like "Pic n Mix" - you go in and tell them what you want, and they create it - they should do very well. Sorry it's November 1st - I thought it was April and that I was on the Hornby Forum.

  4. If those running Platform Models are as helpful and friendly as Martin and Steve at Model Railway Solutions, the business should be very successful. You don't have to be local, I live in Basingstoke, and if you want  a morning or afternoon out, the journey to Poole is very worth while. I bought boards and legs from MRS, and the whole transaction (two visits) was first class. MRS also have a huge layout in the back room, ask and I'm sure they will be pleased to show it to you - it will be at the Eastleigh/Southampton show in 2014. Best of luck to the new business.

  5. I've only just picked this up, but I'm sorry to hear that Motor Books is closing (closed?). Having worked in Holborn for some forty seven years, I visited the shop now and again. Also St Martins Models was a regular stop. I have a very large collection of 1/43rd Ferrari's  (150+) - now all boxed up in the loft - interest isn't what it was! I used to check out Motor Books for early copies of the Autocourse F1 annual - I have them all from 1968 - earlier than that attract very serious prices. As has already been said London rents are crucifying small specialist shops. I used to go into St Martins Model on average of once a week, there was never ever anybody else in the shop - and it was lunch hour.
