It's there as an illustration how bloody angry your ill-informed tripe made me feel - you probably don't even read any reviews I write so your '60 years of experience' counts for absolutely nothing in that regard. What you are basically saying is my opinion can be bought. News for you - it isn't.

It would be best if you apologised to me but you would think that's beneath you - it's not your M.O.

I'm sick of it and I will not sit back and let you criticise me (as I am included in your poorly aimed insult) without pulling you up on it.

You don't like my robust response but that's often the case with bullies; they don't like being called out on their intentionally malicious comments.

It amazes me that you haven't just booted this guy. Seems to delight in winding people up.

    Thanks Simon,

    My crumbling memory!

Has anyone else (in any model railway scale) made actual reversing valve gear? I watched transfixed as Nick operated it.

    Regards,

    Tony.

Most commercial gauge 1 locos have proper Walchearts or Stephensons. Quite a large amount of scratchbuilds too.

B2 would be close enough for me. After all, Hornby are more than happy to paint locos with a Beatles livery?

Not a good comparison. People seem to not understand the Beatles / Coca Cola stuff is not aimed at us. It is a completely different market share aimed at collectors of that sort of thing (yes...really). I look upon that stuff as subsidising the rest of the range of proper stuff, because it sells, believe it or not.

A B2 in MET livery would be nothing short of a fudge. If you want a MET Peckett, buy the 3D print and paint it in MET livery, with transfer lining it wouldn't be hard and you'll get what you actually want. Or pay someone to do it (but where's the fun there?). Link below.

EDIT I can't understand why they haven't released a Peckett in Met livery?

I can, the W4 and B2 are not the right breed of Peckett.

The Met ones were X class pecketts. A 3D prints available.

It looks good but, based on the S*m's Tr**ns review, the motor isn't quite up to the job of hauling such a heavy loco, even before you add a train.

Well Sam is wrong. Mine runs very smoothly and whisked 12 coaches round like they weren't there.

Sam does say some odd things re performance in his reviews, highlighting a fundemental lack of electrical and mechanical understanding.

David died in 2004 and this is far more recent so it must be another one.

Correct. David's model was battery powered.

There is a third G1 Turbomotive built by Peter McCabe which I own the remains of. It is basically a complete chassis. The tender and boiler were liberated to build, and I am not making this up, Princess Anne by Michael Wrottesley.

OK, there's a fair amount on the web, including videos of it running (with sound) and even a book.  It uses a Tesla turbine so, I assume, this is hidden between the frames.

It isn't a Tesla. Werner actually machined an impulse bladed turbine for it. Drawings are available in his book from G1MRA.

  8. Their response to my politely pointing out the red could be better executed?

    "It is a fictitious livery"

    That's it.

Well I tried. They have an opportunity to do a fictitious livery as the prototype railway would have done. If thats their attitude they can poke it.

The 9F is correct, as was a few others with flangeless wheels such as the LNWR 0-8-0s.

The Banker was flanged. Pretty sure the WD 2-10-0s were also flanged.

WD 2-10-0s have flangeless middle drivers, always did.

To say nothing of authoritative descriptions in various publications. If the engine had been painted red, the tender frames should be red and lined out, also, I should think, the cylinders, while the black wheels should be lined yellow. The boiler bands adjacent to the smokebox and cab front would be black, lined yellow, but not any of the others.

Whilst the livery is spurious, and so I suppose could be whatever takes one's fancy, it can't really be said to be a good representation of Midland passenger livery of the period.

The tender numbers on the side are a better size than on the black render, though - should be 18" tall.

Very true! It is only a render so I didn't want to rip it to shreds but the bands are quite a deliberate addition.

  11. Render of the red has arrived. The black bands are irritating. They have used a Players cigarette card as a reference, despite having relatively contemporary livery references in the form of 1000 and the Spinner in the NRM. Even the photographic grey photo could be used as a lining reference. Disappointing.
