The upgrade kit is looking to be around £120 so still saving around £20 on buying the parts separately, plus you get the correct plugs on the speaker etc as standard.

Do we have a rough ETA on the upgrade kit? It’s hard to find the speaker you guys use likely because it’s so good and everyone’s upgrading!

  2. On to a brighter note, any clues on some of these extra features yet to be announced? I want to get a head start on fitting a sprinkler system if the window wipers are going to work 😛

I don't see what you did wrong...it certainly did not warrant the response(s) you have got, especially from AS. if i tag someone in its bring to their attention something I've written. Your tag was not rude, abusive, not did it demand a response or even acknowledgement, its up to the receiver of the tag to respond, they did in this instance but with something completely out of order.

Others have said go to the AS's website for project updates, fair enough but when it suits AS post on here, especially with project updates etc so asking for clarification or a more detailed update is surely acceptable, AS don't have to respond by the way.

I feel it comes with the territory. If you want to have a presence on this forum as a company then you need to expect that people will use its features. No one is expecting them to work out with their hours however people will use the feature. You can’t really have it both ways.

It’s a bit like giving us DCC operational pantographs and not expecting us to go “WOW” and play with them for half an hour after unboxing….. story from a friend.

Like us all I am also disappointed by the delays. I can’t help but think that it was obvious that the loco would not be ready in time to record and the fallback option of using historic recordings should have been spun up sooner to avoid such a long delay. Lessons to be learned I feel but Accurascale is still a young company. If this sort of thing keeps happening then yes it will be a factor when ordering in the future but only time will tell.

It’s from my era of modelling, but I wonder if it’s short service life in this scheme ( 2000-05) would limit the number they can shift ?

Depends. Add in KABOOM sound function followed by “OH S#*T” and I recon you are on to a winner.

Reading the specs of a class 93, it seems a bit light on both diesel and battery for this job, but how about with a pair of 93’s as top and tail ?

would two get a mk5 set out of Marylebone on battery and give enough power on diesel for the rest of the journey ?

thats c1000hp of Battery for c10 mins, and 2400hp on diesel…. Not far off a class 20 and a class 67.

Wasteful and unlikely I accept, but could it ?

it kind of shows Battery has a long way to go, if 540hp of power for 10 mins is all you can get. I wonder if the long term solution of Battery locos is the return of a tender(s) behind the loco, holding a battery pack that can be uncoupled / swapped for charging as required ?

Certainly the current solution of loading it all in the loco doesnt look hugely attractive, and wastes a locos performance because of lack of power source storage.

in many ways looking at battery tech now, is like looking at diesel tech 100 years ago, it took 40 years to be established at the level it was needed to be.

You could really be onto something with that tender idea. You could upgrade the tender as battery tech gets better or if something like super capacitors become viable at that scale without having to touch the loco. Might also be theoretically possible to retrofit existing electric locomotives with connections on each end to give them a bit of time away from the wires. You could even go as far as using a DVT style wagon or even converting existing DVT’s and not have to worry about shunting to always have a cab end exposed.

  6. This has been a long standing issue for me with Accurascale’s speaker set up. The class 92 has exactly the same EM1 and sugarcube set up which reduces the resistance to below the 4 ohm minimum. So much so that when I tried to fit a sound decoder to a DCC ready class 92, the decoder would cut out the sound to go into protection mode (but only when playing intense sounds like horns etc). I couldn’t understand why DCC factory sound models worked fine even when the same decoder lifted from a DCC factory sound model was swapped into my DCC ready model and it still cut out again. This proved it was not my 3rd party decoder causing issues. Turns out that while DCC ready models have both EM1 and sugarcube speakers installed, out of both factory sound fitted class 92’s I have, both have the sugarcube cover fitted but no speaker is actually underneath it. They also show a resistance of 4 ohms where as the DCC ready model showed 2.67 ohms. Removing the sugarcube from my DCC ready model solved all my issue with sound cutting out since the model now shows 4 ohms across the speaker pins. Given that the cut out only happens when playing intense sounds that are very high volume such as horns, this would suggest that 2.67 ohms is borderline and you can get away with it a long as the volume is kept down.

Long way of saying that I would have zero problems with pulling out the sugarcube and running just the EM1.

Not trying to bash but I raised this issue to Accurascale both via their support (since they had 2 attempts to repair) and in person at shows but I see it’s not gone any further and the same sound set up is still being used in the class 37 and future models (although we can’t comment yet if they have tweaked the speaker resistances for the future). Either Accurascale/ESU have doubled down and found a way to make this work safely or they are willing to take the risk of running the decoder under spec.

My other concern with this is that if you buy a DCC sound fitted class 92, you are not getting twin speakers as advertised. I don’t have a factory sound class 37 to test. Both of mine are DCC ready so it may be worth checking your sound fitted models to see if they have a sugar cube. May explain why they sound better. This can easily be checked by checking the resistance between the speaker pins with the decoder removed. 2.67 ohms indicates 2 speakers. 4 ohms indicates just the EM1.

  7. Hi Guys, Anyone had any joy getting 2 of these to consist together and run at the same speed? One of my models is sound and the other has the standard Accurascale DCC chip in it but I can't get them to match speeds. When hauling something like FNA's it causes the wagons to derail since they are always either being pulled apart or pushed together. Is this likely a problem with the models manufacturing tolerances meaning they will always run at slightly different speeds or will I need to run both models on the same decoder to resolve the issue?

  8. One think I have noticed about this loco (and others from Accurascale) is that quire a few of the PCB's have "ESU" printed on them. Curious to know if accurascale partner with ESU when it comes to their locomotive's electrical design or if they are a sub contractor for manufacture?

Not complaining or finger pointing at all. Just curious!

  9. Agreed. Fantastic comparison. On thing I would love to see is a sound comparison between Bachmann and Accurascale. That's where you spot the Bachmann models big problem. It rattles like an old wind chime in a hurricane when you turn the sound on. I've tried everything to isolate vibration but there's just too many rattles to catch them all. At that point it doesn't matter if the sound file was ultra HD or taken from an old amateur VHS recording. Maybe it's a feature and class 37's in reality are fond of rapid unscheduled disasembely by vibration?

  10. Has anyone had any problems with these models derailing on 3rd radius curves? The bogies on mine don't turn enough to allow it to make the turn and it causes it to jump the rails. According to Bachmann, these should be able to handle 2nd radius. I've tried this on new and old track and it happens all the time. Anyone seeing something similar?

  11. Has anyone else noticed a hum coming from the CS coaches when sat on powered track (DCC)? It comes from all of my coaches so doesn't seem like an individual fault. Seems to be coming from the stayalive charge circuit since as soon as you cut power, the lights stay on but the hum goes away. Just wondering if anyone has found a fix for this? When you have a decent rake on track you do notice the noise.

  12. Ive been trying to find a better way of solving the PCB and sockets visible through the class 92's grills and window (as seen below) and I think I have a nice simple solution.

    Fixed:IMG_4148.jpeg.f05a2bec1d2ef33e9b359a00a24ca435.jpeg

    Method:

Cut some black paper into 25 mm x 15 mm and use some trusty Tamiya tape to hold it down. You also want to run a sharpie across the sockets on the PCB. This makes the grills look far better without having to go nuts with a sharpie or so any serious modifications to the model.IMG_4145.jpeg.0311747ac07e78900210a16a88e0cad3.jpeg

Especially as it's a while since Bachmann have done a run

Only think I would say to that is watch this space for a Bachmann release. Common practice for an old tooling to be rested for a few years before a new tooling comes out to avoid sales from each tool cannibalising each other.

Check the deltic tread, its alight with controllers and issues with the high spec of todays models.

The Dynamis Ultima isn’t even that old though? Not had any issues running the 92 on mine.

I remember getting it and thinking “who on earth will find a way to use 20 functions”. Accurascale then answered! What controllers are people using to get all functions out of their 92’s?

As always, thank you all very much for your replies & tips. I'll try to get myself some PVA over the weekend, thanks again all.

One other thing, treat yourself to a decent PVA! Generic supermarket or WHSmith own brand is rubbish. Go for something like Bostik. The bottle will last you years and it saves you hunting for nameplates if you accidentally touch it and it pings off..... spoken as a victim of own brand rubbish!

Good morning everyone, just a quick question to all who've received their Caledonian MK5's, what glue or adhesive would people recommend for attaching the destination boards to them so they stay where they are meant to be but aren't so strongly bonded that it'll damage the coach removing them (should the need to do so ever arise). Thanks very much all.

PVA works well for name plates and destination boards. Dries clear and can be cleaned off with a damp cloth. Also lets you peal off the nameplate later with no damage. As with all new glues or paints, I would try a little drop of PVA on a painted area that you can't see just to be 100% sure it won't react. Ive been using PVA for years to attach plates to models and had no issues but you can never be too careful!

I managed to grab one of the few Aberdeen packs when they became available again, very excited to see them land on the doorstep later this week. Roll on the TPE packs, at least I had my act together and pre-ordered those ages ago.

Very impressed with the notifications and stock counts on the Accurascale website.

I didn't get the email but I used the Shop app which sends you a notification when your watched item is in stock. Looks like they were in stock for less than 5 mins!
