  1. Was there any equipment attached on the inside of the cab to where those struts were?
  2. Oh no.. Tell a lie, here we are. Guessing this was a BR Green: D3064 - Built in 1957 as D3064 and then re-numbered Dec 1960 to 13064, then TOPS 08051. So either it came from BR Darlington with those on, or they were added between 1957-1960. Of course I'm going off my own research here! Photo from Rail Photo Archive, info on Loco from this list: http://www.railway-centre.com/uploads/7/2/2/3/7223531/class_08-13_fleet_list.pdf And here she is in her BR Blue days:
  3. Thanks chaps - here's some more pictures of BR Green with them - but they are preserved so the mystery continues.. I've yet to find a picture of a working example BR Blue with them. I swear Dapol's new later release of the Class 08 in Blue Unnumbered has these struts on as well, but the picture I saw elludes me.. Or I could have been dreaming.
  4. Good morning chaps - I've been studying the Class 08 in detail and while I have many questions, the most pertinent for now, is a design change, well, I believe it is. I'm modelling an 08 in BR Green which I have a reference shot for (Unfortunately it does not show the rear), however, I have pictures of when it was still under the same number (Pre-TOPS) but re-liveried to BR Blue. In the BR Blue shot, the rear shows two struts pictured: I have not seen a BR Green Class 08 with these. So my question(s) are: What were the purpose of these? Were they a later modification? If so, I'm presuming the Class 08 I'm working on would not have had them in its BR Green days, but then they would have been added for its BR Blue. Thank you

Got it! Thanks, I swear I looked and just saw a Class 08, never looked in too much detail.. Considering I have both the unnumbered 08 in Green and an unnumbered one in Blue...

It would be great if you guys could post some photos of your findings for reference? We'd appreciate it I'm sure! :)
  7. Does anyone have any expertise on this area and is able to give me some advice please? I have a Lionheart BR Maroon coach (Unnumbered) that I need to add a number to. Now I can see Lionheart do coaches with numbers on them but don't have a physical example to reference. So I would like to know what Font/Colour/Size was used on them and/or BR Maroon Coaches so that I can purchase the right decals. Fox Transfers have a huge selection which makes it even more confusing! https://fox-transfers.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=coach&scale=115&transfer_model_type=2165&transfer_period=2156 Example picture of Lionheart Coaches (Numbered) If anyone knows the answer, I'll put a good with in for you with the al' mighty. Thanks
  8. Hi chaps, I have a couple of questions which will test the very limits of your knowledge! So hopefully someone knows, or can point me in the right direction on who might? What I would like to know is (From this picture of a British Rail Class 08) What size and type of bolts are those circled in red? (Also washer size for those bolts sitting on a washer) What type of metal is used for the panel they sit on and possibly the thickness? I have a feeling it'll be some form of steel? If anyone can help, that would be very much appreciated! Thank you
  9. Thank you John, most appreciated. Steve, may I enquire if there is any update to my ticket by chance? Thanks
  10. Hi John, these transfers are going to be used for one of Jim's kits: GWR Macaw H Bogie Bolster BR 20 Ton Bogie Bolster A http://www.jimmcgeown.com/Wagon%20Kit%20Pages/GWR%20Macaw%20H%20Bogie%20Bolster.html
  11. Hi Steve, if you could create that, that would be fantastic. As soon as its available could you let us know please? I would like to order them the moment they're available. Thanks
  12. Thanks Jinty. Popped them a quick email and got a reply from Malcolm with a single line reply of "not in our range no regrets" It appears we built a wonderful rapport!
  13. Hi Steve, just the two tickets, not hundreds I’m afraid! I have seen the blurb on your contact page and did previously when I submitted a ticket. Unfortunately, I never got an email saying I had a response to my previous ticket and after I had been checking for some time, I had to leave off the transfers and just gave up. Though did see/hear others with similar situations contacting you, so thought it one of those things. Alas, I thought the same might happen again so thus prompting the creation of this topic. I will keep another eye on the ticket and see what you come back with. Thanks
  14. Good evening chaps. I shall shortly be making a start on some British Rail bogie bolsters of the 'A' variety, however, I'm struggling to get hold of some transfers. My usual go to would be Railtec and Fox. Unfortunately, Railtec have a big jumbo set covering all varieties, but are out of stock and I've never had any replies to any of my tickets before, so that's a dead end. Fox do them for Bogie Bolster C, but not A. I've sent them an email asking if they can do an 'A', but haven't heard anything back yet. I've also googled but haven't come across anywhere else that would/might sell them. Can anyone give me a nudge in the right direction? Thank you

Thanks chaps, it was specifically those little hole/hooks on the roof I was referring to. I'm guessing they're attachment points for the loco to be lifted by crane.

    Dapol 08

Some very interesting discussions regarding Dapol! I finally got one through that isn't damaged. Well. It has a couple of minor chips on the buffers and some faded green paintwork. Oh and a missing roof hatch! Alas, it'll do and I'll fix it up myself when I weather it. When I read back through this thread, I remember some posters adding a couple of extra details to their model, but never these. I was google searching for extra details people have done and came across them: Roof eyelets (Not sure official terminology) ^ Fancy dials with back lighting. Front windscreen wipers Has anyone come across these parts anywhere? I'd really like to buy some to spruce up my model! Thanks

    Dapol 08

I'm jumping late on the bandwagon with this one, but wanted to see if others have had similar issues? I may be accused of a little OCD. Generally when I purchase something, I want it to be perfect - even though I'm a modeller and happy to try and fix things! Still.. I've had 3 BR Green ones now from two different retailers and am starting to feel like my expectations are possibly too high, but when you spend £191.. First one: Broken buffers, marked bodywork, broken handles, chipped buffer beam. Second one: Broken buffers, marked bodywork, scratched glass, broken handles, chipped buffer beam. Third one: Marked bodywork, scratched glass (I was just going to make do with this one and say it is what it is, but then discovered the doors don't shut flush either...) The marked bodywork, I'll be weathering over anyway so not a huge issue, broken buffers, so-so. Just a bit of glue. Broken handles, well, not ideal. Chipped paintwork, not acceptable, even with weathering, the only way to fix this, is strip all paint back and re-paint, otherwise you end up with a stepped effect in paintwork. Doors not shutting, well I completely disassembled the cab to try and fix it and it was a no-go due to the moulding, even after I sliced part of the door to thin it. The scratched glass, I thought I could replace - sent a message to Dapol for replacements and never got a reply. Unfortunately, I don't have a local store to go and look before I buy. At least a 3 hour round trip for my nearest one. I really want two of these (One blue, one green) but I'm thinking it's just not going to happen and I'll never get one that isn't damaged in some way. Has anyone else experienced any of these issues when they purchased one?
  18. Thank you Paul and everyone else for your kind guidance on ensuring I get exactly what I would like. I have gone with: 1x MX644D 21 PIN ZIMO SOUND DECODER 30x15x4MM 1x LS40X22X09 TWIN SPEAKERS 4OHM With Paul Chetter’s ProtoDrive V1 Class 08 Sound file So I shall look forward to getting both the decoder and the 08! Exciting times. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
  19. Fantastic, thank you Paul, very informative. You mentioned that the "ProtoDrive" version is not yet advertised. Since I wish to get two 08's, does your ProtoDrive version use sounds from V1 or V2, just so that I can get opposing sound files for different sounding 08's. Also, do you have a preferred speaker for your specific sound? I imagine you tested a considerable amount. Thank you
  20. Thank you all for the fantastic responses, so unless anyone else chips in (Pardon the pun) by tomorrow morning with another suggestion, I think the MX644D with the ZS08AD will be the one! Any opinions on whether Paul Chetter's v1 or v2 Class 08 is better? I do intend to get another 08 sometime in the future and will have both eventually so they sound different. Currently the 08 I have is BR Green late crest. (Or will have, Rails of Sheffield unfortunately sent a damaged one! ) On another note, have people gone with single speakers or smaller dual speakers?
  21. I'm sure I read somewhere, at least when I was a member of GOG, that an ideal weight for most wagon kits in that size is 125g - don't quote me on that as it was a long time ago. But certainly a little weight can help. It also gives them a nice feel, rather than a plastic tinny toy. Good shout on stuffing inside a closed wagon for sound insulation.
  22. Thanks for the reply Jinytman - it seems I may have made a mistake then thinking the decoder to go for was the Zimo MX644D - you've mentioned that it's the MX645 - I shall do some more research! It also seems that while I was looking at 'Digidrive' - 'Activedrive' is the better one. I did get a reply from Jeremy at Digitrains, who has suggested: Zimo MX644D with ZS08AD active drive and a LS50x15x14 speaker (Two wire's will need to be soldered) but it includes an enclosure already built. There was no mention of this having Paul Chetter's sound though. I'm curious why you both decided to use the MX645 over the MX644? Thank you
  23. Thank you all for the replies - I have sent a list of questions over to Digitrains in the interim before you replies Is the Zimo MX644D the best sound chip for Dapol’s Class 08 Will the Zimo MX644D allow all the functions to work on Dapol’s Class 08 Does the Zimo chip plug straight in? Does a speaker plug straight in to the Zimo chip? How do I get Paul Chetter’s sound file (version 1 or 2) for the Class 08 and is it DigiDrive? Will it work with my DCS2044 controller regarding the 127/128 speed step being better suited for DigiDrive. Tove, those are some great picture examples, thank you. And the link to the Ebay speaker! (Thumbs up) Is it completely plug and play? Your chip (Is it the MX644D?) looks slightly different than the page for it on DigiTrains, longer perhaps and with a socket for the speaker? Thanks
  24. Dabbling my feet in sound again, I find myself with a few questions regarding fitting sound to a Dapol Class 08 - hopefully the collective community here can help! I have seen numerous posts and some videos on how fantastic Paul Chetter's sound is, specifically DigiDrive? and there being two Class 08 versions from Paul Chetter? I've also read that these can be got from DigiTrains and that a Zimo chip is probably the best for this. This being information I have read from various google searches and topics on here. Does anyone have this set up and could tell me what exactly is required? So I'm guessing I need a Zimo DCC Sound chip, with Paul's sounds putting on, and a speaker. Is this a 'set' one buys? Is it plug and play? Happy to solder if need be. I'm guessing speaker size is an issue for Dapol's 08 as well. I'd also like to figure out rough cost. If anyone could give me some advice, that would be fantastic. Thank you
