  1. Despair at seeing the shrubbery of the Olympic opening event. Where's the magnificence of Concorde, the Harrier Jump Jet, the original Mini, etc etc to celebrate all things British as opposed a picnic in a garden?!

      Does it really matter?

I've never judged any other country on their opening ceremony so I doubt many will do that with us!

No in the great scheme of things it doesn't, but why when putting forward the best of British we still have to kowtow to a twee interpretation of this great land, I will never know. We could have had a dragon for wales, Lion for England, bagpipes, irish dancing, a whole host of British symbols we can be proud of.

A picnic in the stadium with live animals...? Doesn't shout "British" to me.

The 'twee' image brings in thousands of tourists every year and this is clearly important.

I'm not fussed by the Olympics - it's taken so much money away from non-olympic sports. Our Cricket was told this in no uncertain terms that this was why our applications were all turned down!
