How do Spitfire!
The driver is nice most BR overalls were blue of some shade or another, it depended on the age of the overall, don't be shy of weathering him either, they didn't stay very clean after a session of shunting!
as per side play, the easiest way for that is to take the motion off both sides, pull off one side of the wheel set (there press fit) add a narrow fiber washer (Markits and Gibbson) and re-fit the wheels using either a back to back gauge, or if you feel brave, a clear ruler (OO is 14.5MM BtB)
Hope this helps?

Sean,
There are more to come of some of those places. If you have a look at the link to flickr in my signature and go to my Albums (which flickr used to call sets!) you will find more.
David
Edited to explain some new fkickr terminology.
Spot on David, love the albums!
Thank you for sharing these with us all, they are a real treat and so invaluable for both historians and modelers.

Really love these photos, they are so close to home, its amazing to see how things have changed, or not in some places, also a little sad to see how little there is happens in Sleaford and Ancaster compared to then.. You wouldnt happen to have any more photos taken Sleaford, Grantham, Heckington or Nottingham in your collections per chance
Sean (sorry for the cheeky question)

"My lass is the regional under 20's Hammer throw champion..... should i be worried (I add there is a very small age gap. she is just turned 20, Im 21, just so no-one gets the wrong idea ) "
I'll bet you don't argue with her very often, unless you can run out of range. But no, don't be worried. Well, only if it's a silver one and, er... her name isn't Maxwell, by any chance?
HAHA In a previous position, before wrecking a knee and shoulder playing rugby I used to blacksmith, so were evenly matched for strength, although I have a HUGE weight advantage, She is 11 stone at 6 foot, Im 19 stone at 6 foot (much less back ache!) she is lovely really, and she is getting more into railways she is asking a load of questions and getting really into the whole layout building side! I think im in heaven

We agreed with that (all of us there that day), and it has since been dirtied up.
Any chance of photos please
Another pinched from a client, the BR standard 13 ton wagon with removable pipe load

I like the 57XX, if I may, the 37/7 has one thing that detracts a little from her, the center of the snowplow is way to clean, aside from that she is nicely done!

If she's a shot putter you've got to have the balls for it.
My lass is the regional under 20's Hammer throw champion..... should i be worried (I add there is a very small age gap. she is just turned 20, Im 21, just so no-one gets the wrong idea )
At least you found out straight away that she wasn't the one for you: Bigoted intolerance based on ignorance isn't a very appealing character trait.
Very well said that man!

Just read through this, I love the wagons, and planes and really look forward to more!
Just a thought regarding transfers, have you tried Fox waterslide transfers? the detail is pretty damn good ad they are not too hard to work with.
All the best

I must say I am taking my Girlfriend to a few of the preserved railways over the summer months
She is also into Blacksmithing, Hammer throw and engineering, oh and shares my passion for HUGE machinery (Make of that what you will guys and gals)
One point I do make is that there are a contingent of female modelers out there (A good number on RM) al of which make excellent jobs of what they do, From a scientific stand point, a woman should be able to out-do a man when it comes to half the modeling tasks, its no secret that they generally develop much better fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination...
JUst thought i would mention it...

Love the 97, (I like the 1-co-co-1's overall) Lee
One question, what paint/ colour did you use on her roof, that would be PERFECT for my 37...

Nice I am a little earlier than you then (Modeling wise) being early 30's either way, the driver is about perfect for LMS period work.
as I say, add a fiber washer onto the axles one side of the chassis and that should kill most of the slop, a little is needed but not too much as you say. That lack of exactness and accuracy is why I am now working in EM. Track building as not that hard to do when you get into it, nor is re-gaugeing (EM you can simple spread the wheels on most stanadard wagon axles) and I have never bothered with compensation, just lay the track well and double and tripple check gauge and alinement and you cannot go far wrong, the visual difference on hand built points is staggering, as is loosing the Hornby/peco hinge on the switch rails and scale guard rails
you can get flexi track in EM now, and point kits, yes they take longer to build and are a little more expencive, but in the long run they look better and the visual difference for a steam loco is pronominal!
Just a few thoughts for you to chew over my friend!
